if we did get kelman.. then we'd have
    tanto
    leaburn
    Campbell
    godden
    kelman
    kanu/mbick

all fighting for 2 places..that seems alot to me.. could we sell someone ? Campbell would seem the most obvious, not sure on his contract situation? final year, cash in?

i could see Jones liking a Tanto/Leaburn partnership
Disregard Kanu and Mbick from that list as realistic options. Leaburn and Godden likely to have minutes managed at least to a certain extent. That leaves Campbell and Olaofe. We need another striker.
I know NJ has said it's one stays one goes on loan with Kanu and Mbick but I wonder if the right target came up if both could?

I suspect he looks at that pair with completely different views. Kanu is older and now needs regular games and he’s not getting those in The Championship. Mbick is younger and I reckon Jones wants him around Sparrows to learn his trade.

Last few months of last season Campbell was pretty awful , he seemed to have been found out and had no plan b to his game , watching pre- season again not really seem him.. think this is a concern going into the season ??

I think it actually refers to Ricky Shakes who was in our academy.
I’m still upset from when Spurs poached Dan Rattles and when Jimmy Rolls was forced to retire from a twisted giblet injury….

He said that could happen in an earlier interview, but in one of Rich’s latest articles he mentions Mwamba could have been with the first team vs Wealdstone but the u21s have no players (with so many in the first team squad). So I can see Mbick staying and getting u21 game time and the odd cameo from the first team bench.

He wasn't ready for league 1, so can't see him being ready for the championship

He did lose a bit of form I’ll agree but all players do from time to time. Don’t think he was “found out” as such. Pre season is apart from fitness, meaningless so impossible to judge and in any case there have been three games and managed minutes. The Championship will be tougher for him but he came on in leaps and bounds last season and I’ll expect (hope) the same this even if it’s less meteoric.

Yeah that actually makes sense , I didn't realise really how smaller the U21 squad will be this season with the amount of players released.

My main concern is that he really hasn’t had much of a break after being called up for Jamaica. Think he will also need his minutes managed so it’s good we’ve got more options now

Anderson will be fine as it seems like he can just run all day every day

I think you’re right but it’s always worth remembering that players can randomly impress and improve. Doughty wasn’t seen as any where near ready for the first team before he was needed to and then he was great and got a move up to the Championship

Imagine Dixon is being held back to face Cambridge tomorrow, seeing he wasn't involved against Wealdstone, surprised as would have thought that Non-League opposition would've been the better warm up for him. If he does play tomorrow though, might be a good outliner as to where he is with his ability.

Tyreece Campbell will turn 22 years of age the day after we play Millwall.
22 is still a age where players can get better with more experience.
The Championship is a new experience for Tyreece and many others of our players including Josh Edwards and Kanye Ramsay for example.
Adjusting to the new challenge is going to be hard for the whole club with unexpected successes, and worrying disappointments.
Tyreece is a player who has a very good chance to step up a level because towards the end of last season they were doubling and trebling up on him, I don’t think other championship teams will want to use their defensive resources that way, so it is up to Tyreece Campbell to work out how to use the extra space he might get in that division.

Think there are some players NJ wants to see against league opposition and he's one of them

Only last few months when his form
dropped … but unlike now we had no one to play that role in that system so he had to play which most likey did not help his confidence … big season for him to see if he can step up if he can his career may well be elsewhere..

Apart from forums, I haven’t seen us linked with Kelman..

I am not sure he is a championship player. From what I have seen, he is slow, touch not that great, not very good in the air. Looks an okay finisher.. I am sure someone going to send some stats on him.

I’m not sure I’d describe Kelman as slow.

There’s a lot of very weird rules in the MLS around what players can be paid. But those names you’ve listed are all “designated players” at their clubs, meaning they can be paid as much as they want and not count against the league’s salary cap.

The rest of the squad are usually on more modest wages. Depends on whether Charlotte would be looking to use one of its three DP slots on Kelman or not.
Thanks for sharing @Callumcafc, very interesting, and as you say weird, rules.

Interesting it says he was born in Basildon, very local if he still has family there.

He’d be a Godden alternative rather than someone to add pace and power. Not watched him closely but I doubt he’s slower than Godden?

Seems that QPR fan on X is known to be reliable and RC hasn’t denied it, so I could see it happening. QPR are rumoured to be signing another striker so it may be a case of Kelman only being allowed to leave after that deal is done.

Leaburn and Godden have injury issues, Kanu goes on loan and Mbick may even get a loan or needs some cup and more U21 football before throwing straight in the deep end. Leaburn Godden and Kelman competing for one striker spot all offering something a bit different Oloafe and TC playing the LW/ST position and Mbick to come in for emergencies seems like appropriate depth to me

I for one would welcome the Basildon badger as a good alternative to the sniffer dog.

I think also he was marked out of games, sometimes with two players on him, but that opened up other areas of the pitch. TC, Small and Godden were a very effective unit and hard to play against.

Agreed - he was good all year and had a really exceptional spell in the spring but dipped from that at the end -  if he played every week like he did in spring he’d be a prem player and that was what NJ was saying his potential is

Not so much Campbell losing form, more that opposition defenders doubled up on him. This in turn leaves more space in the middle, allowing Godden more time and space, hence him being so prolific in the second half of the season.
