Deadline Day from Pg.641 - Summer 2025 Charlton Athletic Transfer Rumours

Do Hull have a transfer ban still?
If so I would not want us to a) give them any money or b) create a vacancy that they could fill with better.0 -
Mason's move to Chelsea came way too early for him. He scored two league goals for us and appeared a lethal finisher, but since then he has scored one goal in 23/24 and two goals in 24/25.Only 21 years old, still. Personally, I can't see Nathan viewing Burstow as a signing we require ahead of working with and improving Mbick.16

How about you don't mention Windass for 24 hours? Try it for size? As it's NOT a rumour, and just who you think we should go for?AberystwythAddick said:
I think we need to wait a season before we can bet on speculative punts on players like Burstow. Get a couple of good championship level players like Smith and Windass in, help us consolidate then next year take a lookBraziliance said:If Burstow is cheap & isn't a looking to be an instant impact signing for us, I think most of us would be ok with that, as there is talent there somewhere, and he's still young.
If it blocks the way of a more consistent player then I wouldn't want us to get him.
Either way, Jones knows best.1 -

Could well be but Burstow has 52 appearances above league one and 16 at that level. He’s way way ahead of Mbick and Kanu. At 22 he could be worth getting in for Jones to work with. Kanu needs at least a season on loan and Mbick is still just 18 and probably three years off Championship games. Not saying Burstow should be a starter but if it doesn’t cost much he could be a good investment.mendonca said:Mason's move to Chelsea came way too early for him. We shouldn’t be signing people that aren’t ready for the first team .ShootersHillGuru said:

Didn’t rate Burstow particularly highly when he was with us previously. Not seen him play since but doesn’t sound like he’s dramatically kicked on from where he was when he left. I’d pass.23

If we want to find gems with potential that’s exactly what we should be doing.wmcf123 said:

It was good for Mason's bank balance going from an academy players wage to 500k per annum in his 1st year but it hardly makes for a hungry footballer. It was a bizarre transfer as he scored a couple of goals but hadn't played well outside the box and when he came back on loan he didn't pull up any trees and lacked a bit of desire.
Still only 21 but would need to be convinced he can play with some passion.2 -
No, we should be buying people that can influence our first team now and make it better .ShootersHillGuru said:

I think the Burstow link is rubbish anyway.11
-
Burstow has 3 championship goals in 53 games no thanks. Only way I’d consider is a loan deal and even that way it’s more to harm hull than help us just need to rob there club whilst they’re struggling0

Burstow & Ahadme as a front pairing = relegation.7

No way he's way way ahead of either of them, just because Chelsea hoovered him up too early.ShootersHillGuru said:

I bet both of them score more goals than Burstow in their first 50 championship appearances1 -
Some great signings so far Charlton but please don't Burstow my bubble...11

Well both have yet to kick a ball in The Championship yet. They both might never do so. Burstow has 50 games under his belt. I’d say that puts him firmly ahead of them at this point.sam3110 said:

Simon Church played 55 games in The Championship for us and scored 5. Doesn't mean he was good enough just because he played 50+ games at that level? Shouldn't go anywhere near Burstow until he becomes a proven goal scorer in League One.ShootersHillGuru said:

Church played 150 games in the Championship. Clearly he must have been reasonable.MartinCAFC said:

Until the likes of Miles and TC succeed in the Championship, never mind Kanu or Mbick, I wouldn't assume any of our youngsters were better than someone like Burstow.2 -

185 games in The Championship according to Wikipedia. 30 goals less than a goal every 6 games. Backs my point up even further. Not good enough and neither is Burstow (yet) for a team that is looking for a goal scorer. If this was like 19/20 under Roland i'd get the argument to take a punt but we can, should and hopefully will sign better.killerandflash said:
