Holding midfield is a tricky one. I don't expect Taylor to be around , kinda feels like you almost want an Andy Hughes/Pratley type veteran head in there.

So far so good in terms of transfer business maybe, but can't help thinking Watford must be rubbing their hands at the prospect of playing us first game. Established club that they are up against Jones and some Luton misfits. They will bring all the heat of a Beds/ Herts derby and walk away with a 2-0 win at least i expect. Similar outcomes with home games against Leicester, Millwall, then Blackburn to look forward to. We will be dissecting all that's wrong until October quite possibly, when we might finally sneak a win.
Bloody hell, I bet you're fun at parties...

So if we assume Apter is coming.

What are we saying would make a perfect window for incomings?

One more Attacking midfielder and a striker?
I’m still a bit concerned about cover for Coventry, can JRC play that holding role? I wouldn’t trust Docherty there in the championship where in league 1 he could have maybe done a job covering it
I think that's where Doch played for Hull in the champ. NJ brought him in to play further forward and questions still remain about how effective he is in that new role.
Docherty doesn’t have the range of passing to play there .
Probably not in the traditional sense but Coventry isn't exactly spraying wonder balls around either. For the most part our DM plays simple passes.

Nice to see our two new boys are already on a shared wavelength looking at the first goal here https://youtu.be/aZhcol_VLH8?si=QPvdQ2MrKz3rFJs2

I’d say it’s the other way around. Watford have a team full of odd balls and weirdos. I would guess hardly anyone has heard of the majority of their squad bar a few names.

Their manager also doesn’t inspire me. He is a network manager and can’t speak English. They’re going away to a newly promoted team with momentum and most likely a near capacity Valley.

This this this! They've got a new manager who won't know anything about the championship and a squad assembled by about 4 different managers.

The ideal side for us to have opening day.

Got a feeling that Blackpool announcing Imray was timed to cover the blow of us announcing Apter

Nobody wants a newly-promoted club - away - for their first fixture

Looking forward to the goals & assists he’ll bring to us as well as the time-wasting & cheating

Does anyone know the last time we spent that sort of money on a player?

As others have said, I wonder if the relatively low level spending was done first to smoke and mirror that we’ve got a bit of cash - and now the next/final two or three will be where the big money is spent?

also at this stage important to not put to much pressure on the lad.
Igor was around £2-2.5m if I recall . So over a decade ago since we've spent £2m on a player.

I doubt very much if our spending is coming from  general income or player sales.
That signals to me we are either stacking up debt, or are being bankrolled by philanthropic rich people,
Personally given our history I always feel unsettled by the club being financially vulnerable, and a lot of the money side of things we’re invited to take on trust.
That is another reason I am a big fan of developing our own players, it is cheaper and can often pay off with transfer fees incoming.
Probably why we needed to get a proper Commercial Director like Alice Larkworthy in, to generate more revenue streams.

With his weaker right foot. Other players would take a few touches and get it onto their stronger foot, making it easier for defenders to block and the GK to get into position.

Didn’t we spend £2m on Piotr Parzyszek?

Apter seems more of an out and out winger to me. I wonder if we'll shift to 343... TC on one side apter on the other?
    So you're dropping Edwards?

Would be really impressed if we signed Apter, has loads of potential.

Rather really promising players in their early 20s than another aging ex-Luton player!

I have 800K in my head for that one for some reason

Good ol' Blackpool fans cant even get the name of their new signing right...

Danny Imran joins Seasiders on loan : r/LeagueOne
Charlton fans can’t get Ramsays name right even though he has been here 18 months

Having a quick look at Hull and I don’t think that’s right. They had Ritchie Smallwood as holding mid and then Docherty next to him more box to box.

When Docherty first played for us he was in the 10, which was the reference of playing further forward but I think NJ realised it didn’t work and moved him back to his natural position
