Sounds like he’s joining and it’s odds on it with be an undisclosed fee.

My wife has just finished a finance implementation at a Premiership club based in London. If it’s a foreign transfer there’s a system that FIFA or UEFA use, I’m not sure where they have to input the details of the transfer on each side and it does a transfer between them once it’s matched up.

For anything done in the UK it’s just a normal BACS transfer. 

I worked in banking for more than 30 years.
BACS payments take 2/3 working days.
CHAPS are guarnteed same day payments.
Pretty much no chance anyone would be sending millions by BACS.

I mean you have to remember this is an organisation that still uses bloody fax machines

The money sloshing around in the game is starting to filter down the leagues and will only push prices up. 

Then do your shopping elsewhere. I swear that there are players worth looking at in Ligue 2, Série B or in the Belgian top division, as examples, that would be just as good but cost less. We need to step up our scouting overseas.

I agree in principle, but we need to gradually build up a network of reliable contacts.  That will take a year or two.

And there are hidden pitfalls with overseas players. Most European leagues place a greater emphasis on ball skills over brute force and stamina. And players can fail to settle, in which case it is harder to recoup our outlay if they want to move back home.

Nordics may be a safer bet.

Outside of the crazy signing of Stansfield, Birmingham have recruited primarily from Germany and Holland and have signed 3 Japanese players. Aside from Scandinavians, they're probably the best markets to look at in terms of players who can adjust to English football.

Those players will not cost less at all, players have got very expensive but we've been hidden from it in L1. Clearly this is a wake up call for a lot of the fan base

Europe isn't getting cheaper anymore , I think the CM  De Keersmaecker Oxford have brought in from Holland was £3.5m. Not really sure the hidden gems market is really a thing anymore unless you use the the Pompey and Birmingham strategy of looking way further afield with their Australian and Japanese signings. 

You are right but buying from the Eredivisie is still cheap in comparison to other top flight leagues. And the wages will not be high at all. A lot of top flight Dutch sides have a wage bill that is similar to a league one side.

A decent transfer window so far - sensible signings that hopefully can do a job in the Championship.

It's imperative we stay up next season and our squad does look like it has more depth.
