We don’t have to take a Blackpool ITK as gospel on the fee do we?
Sounds like he’s joining and it’s odds on it with be an undisclosed fee.8 -

Or SEPA if the payment was in Euros......Athletico Charlton said:Covered End said:
If you are being serious I should assume it would be a CHAPS payment to and from the club’s bankers.AberystwythAddick said:On a slightly different note, how do you think the fees for a transfer are moved? Do you reckon that it is someone on their banking app moving cash about?
Yep, would be a CHAPS but done online.0 -

My wife has just finished a finance implementation at a Premiership club based in London. If it’s a foreign transfer there’s a system that FIFA or UEFA use, I’m not sure where they have to input the details of the transfer on each side and it does a transfer between them once it’s matched up.Covered End said:

If it’s from a leak from their end then it’s obviously going to be inflated because that’s what Blackpool will want their fans to hearSuper_Eddie_Youds said:We don’t have to take a Blackpool ITK as gospel on the fee do we?

BACS payments take 2/3 working days.
CHAPS are guarnteed same day payments.
Pretty much no chance anyone would be sending millions by BACS.5 -

Postal order sent by 2nd class post. That would take a while to clear.Covered End said:

This could be fantastic business. If Apter has a good first season in the Championship will easily be worth 10 mil. He did look good at the valley last season.

I confidently expect us to sell Apter to Real Madrid for £100m next summer.ShootersHillGuru said:

Then do your shopping elsewhere. I swear that there are players worth looking at in Ligue 2, Série B or in the Belgian top division, as examples, that would be just as good but cost less. We need to step up our scouting overseas.MarcusH26 said:
£1.5m is now the going rate for a good League 1 player. I wouldn't say it's extortionate at all in the current market for someone with Apters numbers.Crispywood said:
That’s just the price of footballers these days wouldn’t say that’s an extortionate amount of moneyLewis Coaches said:

if we pay that Nathan Jones is also deluded.

Those players will not cost less at all, players have got very expensive but we've been hidden from it in L1. Clearly this is a wake up call for a lot of the fan basejimmymelrose said:

I agree in principle, but we need to gradually build up a network of reliable contacts. That will take a year or two.jimmymelrose said:

And there are hidden pitfalls with overseas players. Most European leagues place a greater emphasis on ball skills over brute force and stamina. And players can fail to settle, in which case it is harder to recoup our outlay if they want to move back home.
Nordics may be a safer bet.4 -

Outside of the crazy signing of Stansfield, Birmingham have recruited primarily from Germany and Holland and have signed 3 Japanese players. Aside from Scandinavians, they're probably the best markets to look at in terms of players who can adjust to English football.wolfgang said:

Europe isn't getting cheaper anymore , I think the CM De Keersmaecker Oxford have brought in from Holland was £3.5m. Not really sure the hidden gems market is really a thing anymore unless you use the the Pompey and Birmingham strategy of looking way further afield with their Australian and Japanese signings.fenaddick said:

You are right but buying from the Eredivisie is still cheap in comparison to other top flight leagues. And the wages will not be high at all. A lot of top flight Dutch sides have a wage bill that is similar to a league one side.MarcusH26 said:

Yeah it's probably the last "cheap" top flight League , but with that it's probably the one everyone will be targeting now looking for value , along with Scandinavia although i think Norwich are just about to spend £7.5m on their replacement for Borja Sainz from Brondby.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Yesterday’s 2nd Tier podcast was a review of all Championship transfer business. Kaminski was in their top 5 transfer picks and Carey made the honourable mentions list. Charlton called out as having “one of the better transfer windows so far”.51

After much thought, I have decided that the thread should be renamed .. 'Charlton Athletic Transfer Discussion'
I thank you6 -
A decent transfer window so far - sensible signings that hopefully can do a job in the Championship.
It's imperative we stay up next season and our squad does look like it has more depth.

It won’t be long before this discussion pivots to talk about departures, either loans out or transfers.4
