Counter argument to that is they need to sell to pay off their debts and get the embargo removedBraziliance said:

Doesn't make much sense to sell players when they won't be able to sign any if the embargo remains and it is that strict.

You always get that reaction from supporters when players leave …. Never going to turn round and say gutted , he the best player we have etc etc …. Jones has got the players with the right attitude and players he knows will fit in with the squad …sam3110 said:

They've let a couple of players go recently - Matty Jacob's gone on loan to Reading and Marvin Mehlem's returned to Germany permanently. I don't see it happening either just because it would leave them on the right-hand side of defence.Braziliance said:

Drameh would an interesting addition with solid champ experience. I guess Hull will need to get a few players off the books to deal with the embargo.2
-
I don't see us spending money on Drameh, when we have Ramsay likely to start? Especially Burke presumably going in at RCB.
Unless it's a sensible fee (200/300k). But would they want to strengthen a rival?1 -

I’m sure we said the same last year when we plundered Luton but what you have to understand is NJ knows these player’s personalities as much as their ability and that means they almost act like his eyes and ears on the pitch and training ground.Hylton and Berry didn’t exactly get anyone excited but their all round contribution was significant and so i would hope it’s more of the same.26
-
Counter argument to that is he went to Sheff U last season and was given limited opportunities. He needs to play every week at this stage of his career. Rangers could give him that opportunity but may face the same problem there… also it’s a long way from home and he loved his time here.stoneroses19 said:Not saying I think it will happen but it’s not impossible7 -

Course - but can you see us spending 500k + on a backup?
The backup LCB/LWB was free.0 -
Yes, because buying a backup for 500k is way cheaper than buying a starter for 2.5m, especially when most of us are in agreement that Ramsay will make the step up to championship football no problemhaff5 said:Course - but can you see us spending 500k + on a backup?

Drameh would be a cracking signing for us, pacey, gets forward, knows the league. Would be delighted with that and think he would be a better signing for what we need than Offiah0

I know. Coyle had been first-choice last season though so they'd have no cover in that area if they were to let Drameh go.sam3110 said:

I don’t think Bell or Drameh, if he signs, will have come here to be back up.haff5 said:Course - but can you see us spending 500k + on a backup?
The backup LCB/LWB was free.
We will see by the end of the season but I’m expecting Bell to have more starts than Gillesphey across the next season. Bell might not start the season as first choice but I think you’ll see that change relatively quickly, unless Gillesphey takes yet another step forward.
We will see on Drameh but IMO signing a solid RWB to fill the Thierry hole makes a lot of sense. It lets Ramsay slot back into that RCB position because, by all accounts, we won’t get 46 games out of Burke.14 -
It's not about backup though, it's about players who are good competition. Last season we were lucky with injuries but we didn't have anyone on the level of Lloyd Jones and all our worst periods were when he was out of the team. McIntyre and Mitchell weren't at the level needed and we suffered for it. Same with Watson not being anywhere near Thierry Small and us being very, very grateful that Godden and Campbell didn't get injured in the run-in. That was in L1, if Ramsay gets injured do we really fancy Asiimwe being required to play every week in the Championship or do we go for a player who can push Ramsay for his spot so we know that if injury hits we've at least got a player who could start for 2-3 months instead of just the odd game? You can get away with dodgy backups in L1 at a pinch but not up a levelhaff5 said:Course - but can you see us spending 500k + on a backup?

My guess is we get a new RWB and a new midfielder and that will be that and would tally with the 5-6 more that Rodwell mentioned previously (since when we have bought in 4).
That said, I think we need more, we also need more quality. The players bought in so far seem solid but I worry we are still a strong L1 squad rather than a true Championship one.
I would like a RWB, LB, CDM, CAM and striker still personally with the LB being back up to Edwards and the others all being stand out improvements.

I am confident we are still looking for another forward and midfielder, if Drameh comes in I think we can consider us 'done' with defence. Since the playoff final has ended, Nathan has spoke about the need for more fluidity in midfield so can't see that ending with just the signing of CareyAthletico Charlton said:My guess is we get a new RWB and a new midfielder and that will be that and would tally with the 5-6 more that Rodwell mentioned previously (since when we have bought in 4).

Indeed. We need a Gallagher type in midfield. It made the difference when we were last in the Champ, until he left.YannTheMann said:

I still want Marc Leonard14

We’re definitely improving the overall quality of the squad with all these signings12

Not itk at all but if we aren't paying for Knibbs or DKD then Donley would be a useful loan addition to add creativity in midfield.5
