I think if the 6/7 are real quality to push players from the current XI onto the bench then I'm not too mad about U21s supplementing some of those sub positions, 9 subs feels like a lot considering only 5 can get on and you rarely see managers use their full capacity as it is
6 or 7 REAL quality players will cost somewhere from 8 to 10 £Million + wages, can't see it happening ..
I'd rather see 2 or 3 REAL quality signed for (say) 4/5/6 £Million and another 2 or 3 'journeymen' who know the business to strengthen the squad with the expectation of only covering injuries and suspensions .. we might well need some funds left to play with in the January window, however much will be thrown in the transfer kitty and to pay increased wages for all the squad

Wrexham could be in for ex Saints and Scotland man Stuart Armstrong .. I'm hoping that he is the type our management are looking at and considering

More importantly did they refer to him as Jim or cnt?

Didn't last long in MLS either. Not sure he's the answer to what we need when we've already got Berry

was in Canada for about 4 months, I'm guessing he got a shout from Shef W, but was released at season's end ..  S W are in a well publicised mess, and he was injured I believe
Anyway, I am biased, he's a player I always though was underrated, he's played for some decent clubs down the years

Because his legs have gone and he can’t run

I can only see Ramsay, Jones, Edwards and Coventry (perhaps) as shoe in starters. Some may shout "Godden" but he is 34 at KO and his last stint at this level yielded 6 in 35.

The rest, perhaps Mannion jury out, barely performed at L1 level.

There’s a point in the NJ interview about 4 mins in where he’s clearly about to say “we need to have more fluency in the middle of the pitch” and stops himself halfway through the word middle which suggests we’re on the hunt for a creative midfielder
Was glad to hear him say that. Found the midfield disappointing last season as an attacking unit. Coventry's natural instinct is to move backwards, even when the space is in front of him, Docherty doesn't really get on the ball and Berry could be anonymous for long spells. We won't get away with that in the Champ.

Please don't mention Berry again. He is history. Everybody—the board, NJ, and fans are agreed that we need to, and will, strengthen several positions. The first position to strengthen is our weakest last season, so bye-bye Berry.

I think NJ is bitter he does not still have Alfie May with us so that he can have the pleasure of pushing him out again to show what a hard bastard he is.

Was purely because Armstrong is another 30+ yr old player that plays the same role as Berry so wouldn't be any kind of upgrade. Remains to be seen what Carey can offer of course but I expect another attacking midfielder in the door anyway.

This is the furthest thing from a solid rumour, but I was on Derby County's forums reading their transfer business (some life), and under the post discussing Dion Sanderson to Derby, shared by SkySportsPeteO, a Derby fan said he is off to us? Seems a bit of a random thing to say.

Decent Championship pedigree, only played 12 games last season which is a concern though

If Jones and Chapple are struggling with recruitment they can perhaps look no further than seeking the help of Acworth who has presented an extensive list to help them.

    https://x.com/23gamer45/status/1938234760054067530

Highlights on the list include Ben Purrington, Albie Morgan, Jordan Cousins, Benik Afobe last seen playing in the Qatari 2nd division, and 39 year old Billy Sharp.
And the Wimbledon player on the list has signed for Bradford

Not sure what the problem is, we're only a division higher than Bradford, and 160 miles up the road.

Probably saying it because we got Sonny Carey, after the same journalist said he was signing for them.

Sanderson was the Brum skipper not so long ago, was loaned to Blackburn last  season's end, so now seems VERY surplus to Brum .. he'll do a job wherever he goes, no more than that

Good spot, thought that was random.

    Personally I don't think 6/7 is enough.
It can be if they’re all upgrades on the current starting 11.

And as long as none of them a) get injured, b) get tired or c) drop out of form. In a 46 game season.

All about opinions but I only really rate Ramsey, Jones, Edwards, TC and Coventry as able to step up to The Championship as regulars.  Assume Carey will too and that would make 6.  Bring in another 6-7 means our squad of decent Championship players is tiny. Plus we cannot afford for any of those bought in to not work out.

Harsh on Doc, Godden, Berry and Gillesphey,  They’ll all do a job for us next season.

Exactly. That’s not to say no one needs replacing or that we don’t need reinforcements but the players don’t become awful overnight

Less than 48 hours after the final win there were already calls to bin off Mannion, the lack of faith would be enough to make Lord Vader blush

I think a lot of people don’t notice how important Berry is, especially not noticing what he does out of possession. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a key player again this season

Was wondering how long it would take for this thread to go back to whether will mannion is good enough or not for the championship… would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on it again

I don’t think that’s miles off, Jones elevates this squad to be better than it is on paper. He will do the same again in the championship, on paper we will probably have one of the worst squads but will not perform like it on the pitch
