why do we bother with shite pre season games like at Welling ? Aside from the tradition, I really dont see the sense in thoe types of games.bolloxbolder said:

This in a nutshell. I really wouldn’t want to go into the season counting on that. Unfortunately for the lad after the last 2 seasons I think it’s more likely that another injury is around the corner. Key season for Miles. Really needs to stay fit
This is possibly the best chance he has of staying fit, last two years he had no pre season after GBH at Welling and then his long term injury that ruled him out until October time
If he can get a full pre-season under Jones and Dr Will it'll give him best chance possible, as will not having to roll him out for games in the bristol street pizza motors cup0 -
When are we back for pre-season training? 7 July or the week before?

So we can test out how robust our players are against those two footed flying tackles 🤣BigDiddy said:

We don't anymore apart from Dartford which is a good curtain raiser and part of the agreement that means our U21s can play thereBigDiddy said:

According to that Alan Nixon, Huddersfield have bid £2.5m for that Galbraith from Orient15

I think there are lot of teams outside the “top premier” that are very comfortable in possession and are directed and set up to play that way. Getting it forward fast because you just aren’t good enough to retain the ball will very often just see the ball coming straight back at you.Southbank said:
A lot of 'possession' these days is teams passing it around at the back. Deadly to watch and sometimes leading to goals when poor defenders who cannot pass give it away 30 yards from their goal. Get the ball up the pitch as quick as possible works better unless you are a top Premier side.Braziliance said:
If you could bet on the lowest possession based team across a season, I would say it would be like printing money if they gave us odds.Crispywood said:
Possession based and Nathan Jones don’t mix, we have about 19/20 first team players not even half of them can play a possession based system. If were ranked 13th for possession as a top L1 side there’s no chance we’re going to have any possession as a bottom championship sideAndyG said:
I’m not saying you’re wrong mate but we also need to wait and see what happens in terms of incoming players. We could start the season with a front footed possession based squadNabySarr said:
Unfortunately that club isn’t us. We are going to be one of the teams with the least possession and least chances/goals. Palace won’t want him to come back here as he’s less likely to post the kind of numbers neededletthegoodtimesroll said:
For Palace to get anywhere near £15m for him he just needs to go out on loan to a Championship club that knows how to get the best out of him and that will play him for most games over the whole season so he can get those ‘come and buy me’ goals and assists. Just a question of finding a Championship club where he can settle in quickly and hit the ground running…NabySarr said:
15 goals 8 assists for us in league 1 plus 7G 2A in the championship last season is easily enough to interest top championship teams. It was his first year at championship level so you’d expect him to be hitting double figures next season (which he’d have probably hit last season if he’d played more). He’d be a top signing for any team in the league, so he’s way out of our league unfortunatelyTeeC said:Not sure why anyone going for promotion would sign him based on his body of work so far
We were heavily outposessed by Leyton Orient at Wembley, and as you say mid-table for it in the league, that won't change for next season.
Not that I mind, it got us up and gives us the best chance of staying up with the quality of our squad vs the League. Trying to play a bit would probably have us getting battered most weeks, our style will frustrate a lot of teams and we will pick up results.0 -
They seem to be trying buy their way out of the league this season, probably a smart move with Wrexham and Birmingham out of the wayAFKABartram said:According to that Alan Nixon, Huddersfield have bid £2.5m for that Galbraith from Orient1 -
Possibly being used to get us to up our offer.
16 -
Galbraith is a punt in our division but as always players are only worth what teams are willing to pay, I think if we were to spend that kind of money then I would prefer to get someone more proven other taking punts7

A Trialist from Welling and the tackle on Miles Leaburn which left him injured reminds me of another lowly team we played back in the 90's 🤔
West Ham united pre season 'friendly' at the Valley and Marco Boogers managed a bad brace that day by late tackles on super Clive and Matty Holmes with both leaving the field on a stretcher.
On his League debut at Old Trafford from the bench just minutes after coming on he cut Gary Neville in half and after a melee got a red card. Only played 4 games for the Hammers all from the bench.4 -
Wouldn't be surprised if the Huddersfield story is spin from the Orient / Agent side to get the ball rolling. £2.5m as an opening bid seems odd.1
-
It’s textbook from Orient. Feed that idiot Nixon with an inflated made up bid to get us to up ours3
-
And Nixon is the type of Journalist who takes the baitElliotCAFC said:Wouldn't be surprised if the Huddersfield story is spin from the Orient / Agent side to get the ball rolling. £2.5m as an opening bid seems odd.13 -
If we all think, and likely know, it’s obvious bait - why wouldn’t those who are directly involved in football and have more contacts than Nixon not?
0 -
£2.5m is laughable when he's got a year left. Throw in a vaguely plausible club that's got a few quid like Huddersfield and this is classic agent spin.5
-
They do, it's just the way it goes now. Nixon doesn't care about accuracy, he just shovels enough shit that eventually some of it will stick.FishCostaFortune said:If we all think, and likely know, it’s obvious bait - why wouldn’t those who are directly involved in football and have more contacts than Nixon not?2 -
If it was a sensible amount then it would be more believable. It would be naive to see a failed bid of £1.3m and immediately jump in with such a high figure. Any sensible recruitment would add a few 100 thousands first, not double the amount.6
-
Nixon's article says:
Huddersfield Town are making a remarkable £2.5m offer for Leyton Orient play maker Ethan Galbraith.
The Terriers are looking to buy their way out of League One and have tabled the bid in the hope to see off promoted Charlton.
Former Manchester United babe Galbraith impressed at Orient who will sell if the offer is increased.
Huddersfield may get their man if they hit a guaranteed £3 million sum.
Charlton are unlikely to match that.19 -
If there’s a £2.5 million bid on the table then he’s gone. No way will Orient be able to refuse that. I’d say it’s around £750k too much. Hard to know if there’s any truth in it but I’d think that there’s no smoke without fire. Not sure about the amount though.0

He's good but he's not worth £3m when unproven in the Championship and has one year left on his contract. We'd be better off using the £1.5m or so elsewhere in the team. Obviously it's Nixon so pinch of salt needed8
-
We move on .. not worth 3 mill which is what Orient told Huddersfield they wantAFKABartram said:According to that Alan Nixon, Huddersfield have bid £2.5m for that Galbraith from Orient6 -
What about the players wishes too, staying in league one can't see that either.3
-
We'll soon know if it's true or not because if they actually have bid 2.5m then there's no way Orient will turn it down.1
-
As good as he is in League One and I would expect him to step up, the reality is that he’s not yet proven and therefore he’s not value at £2.5m.So we walk away from it and Galbraith can decide if he wants to sign for another League One club or, if he’s wanting to step up a level, push his agent to have Orient to be reasonable and accept a fair offer from a club in the league above.13
-
Anything above £1.5m I'd be looking elsewhere , good player but the clock is firmly against Orient in terms of what they can get for him. If Huddersfield genuinely want to pay £2.5m then let them and we'll look elsewhere.Callumcafc said:As good as he is in League One and I would expect him to step up, the reality is that he’s not yet proven and therefore he’s not value at £2.5m.So we walk away from it and Galbraith can decide if he wants to sign for another League One club or, if he’s wanting to step up a level, push his agent to have Orient to be reasonable and accept a fair offer from a club in the league above.0 -
Or if no one elses bid is close, he will sign for them but say he'll only sign if there's a clause he can go for X amount to a Championship club if they don't get promoted.Callumcafc said:As good as he is in League One and I would expect him to step up, the reality is that he’s not yet proven and therefore he’s not value at £2.5m.So we walk away from it and Galbraith can decide if he wants to sign for another League One club or, if he’s wanting to step up a level, push his agent to have Orient to be reasonable and accept a fair offer from a club in the league above.0 -
Personally think this is a tactic from Orient to make us panic and massively up our bid for Galbraith. Huddersfield probably are interested but would be mad to bid 2.5M when an initial bid was 1.3M surely they start with 1.5M 1.8M etc and work there way up think the fee given doesn’t make a lot of senseAFKABartram said:According to that Alan Nixon, Huddersfield have bid £2.5m for that Galbraith from Orient16 -
It was not Boogers who did Mendonca and Holmes. It was a Norwegian trialist called Steiner Nielsonsoapboxsam said:fenlandaddick said:

Yeah it's all playing the game, I imagine that there probably IS genuine interest from other clubs but no particular reason to suspect we're going to get gazumped.Crispywood said:

If it was Cawley saying that I'd be worried. Nixon, not so much.2
