Marc Leonard anyone?
Loan with an option to buy would be ideal. Reckon he would start for us.Scoham said:Braziliance said:https://x.com/SportsPeteO/status/1929528197361910167?t=pA6KNsxKkl8I-dZ4uzRvUA&s=19

Docherty is a league1 quality player imo. I am expecting us to upgrade on him.
I think Jones should be club captain and Docherty shouldn't be starting. Might sound harsh but it just worries me how little he played for Hull and he's never really done it at this level.
Sorry to any Doc fans but I'd like to see us sign two new mids to play with Cov.
We should, if we can, upgrade on Doc but the same can be said for every player in the side. You could argue he dropped down a level for a reason but to pretend he never did it is just nonsense.
When I say he didn't do it, I mean he didn't thrive in this league. If he did, he would have been kept by Hull. He couldn't even stand out in League1 if we are being honest.
We need better to progress, harsh but true.
He was kept by Hull, for three seasons, and then like most players at one time or another he moved on to be the captain of a promotion winning team in league one but that isn't enough somehow.
We do need better players to progress but that is no reason to dismiss the contributions that Doc and many others have made.
I just don't get this whole either/or justification. Someone can like both Chinese and Indian food. You don't have to run down one to like the other.
We can praise a player AND want better replacements
We don't have to write off a player, and in this case our captain who did contribute greatly, just to justify bringing in someone better, younger, fitter, more suited.
I believe he was a passenger in the championship, you believe he was championship quality.
Moving on.
Again, why make stuff up just to justify replacing him.
24/25: League 1, 40 apps, 4 goals 2 assists.
23/24: 15 Champ apps, bit part player
22/23: 1940 minutes of Champ football
21/22: 40 champ apps, 1 goal, 2842 mins, 71 mins average per game
20/21: Very good league 1 numbers, 5 goals, 5 assist, 44 appearances
19/20: Scottish prem, 6 apps, bit part player
18/19: League 1, 7 goals, 8 assists, good season
The common theme is, he does decent/good in league1, and struggles to make the step up. I saw plenty of Hull fans say it was the right move to let him go. Similar to how plenty of our fans will tell another club Chuks and Tennai will do a job.
I didn't watch him all those last 6 years, so I can only go from what I've read, and then watched with my own eyes, which is that he wasn't great in league1 for us, so I am doubtful he will make the step up, as he has previous history of failing.
Is this satisfactory and no longer making stuff up?
He has an opinion, other people had other opinions - literally as ever with the transfer thread most of it is just peoples opinions. But then people get annoyed and say you can’t have opinion because there opinion is different to your opinion.Wouldn’t Nathan Jones be always looking to strengthen the squad, and if he believes he can bring in someone better, he’ll do it—there’s no room for sentiment in competitive football. It doesn’t mean the current players are bad, but his ruthless ambition to improve quality, depth, and tactical fit surely drives progress, even if it unsettles some fans or players.

So no player is safe from being replaced?0

Think maybe Conor Washington could do a job for 3/4s of the pitch, then collapse in a heap. Jonathan Leko could then go past maybe one or two, take it to the goal-line. Then maybe re-sign Omar Bogle to run that ball towards goal and fall over his own ankles. Then all we need is someone to put the ball in the back of the net. Maybe Lyle Taylor and Tomer Hemed could talk fiscal and foreign policy with the goalkeeper and keep him distracted, and then Jayden Stockley or Ronnie Schwartz could punt it vaguely towards goal and hope for the best? Just my honest opinions guys, no hate please! 👍👍9

I just don't get the Docherty bashing going on here. As Captain of the first team he has led us to promotion in his first season at the club. Nathan obviously respects him for his leadership qualities, otherwise he wouldn't have made him captain.Do fans actually think that we are going to sign attacking , dynamic midfield players that are going to storm the Championship league, or are we going to be organised and grity, and grind out results in a higher league?
I know which way Jones will plan the forthcoming season, we will be hard to beat, we will press and close down opponents, we will try to be well organised. Docherty will be an important cog in this gameplan and I expect him to be an integral part of the team moving forwards into next season.38 -
I don't especially rate Docherty either. I'm sure he must do some stuff well and Jones likes him, and he has been captain. However, whatever it is he does, there must also be a player who can do that, probably better and also make a decent forward pass.
I'd be happy if he didnt start and I wouldn't be overly upset if I never saw him play again. Can di better, ditto but more so Berry.1 -

Perhaps because we’ve won promotion, and unusually don’t have several players out of contract and haven’t relied on loans it’s not obvious where the gaps or weaker areas of the team are.
A case can be made for all of them, but I think we can be certain some will lose their places. Docherty’s likely to be in competition with a new signing or two, and also Anderson, who hopefully will keep improving.5 -

Teams that get promoted have to improve their team if they want to stay up. Oxford, Pompey and Derby all made lots of signings last summer, and many of the players in their promotion sides lost their starting places, that's sadly how football works.

Let’s be real - this thread is an absolute disgrace.
Seems we are happy to discard 11 warriors who dragged us to glory at Wembley and etched their names into club history - and this is how we repay them?Shut. It. Down. Admin.

If so, how many do people think we bring in during this first period...?
I'm going to go for 3.
Also, should I be worried we are 24 hours or so in, but not yet signed anyone? 😉0 -
Think our recruitment is going to take much longer than last season. Player demands probably going to go through the roof now we’re in the championship and if we’re in for the same players as other championship clubs likelihood is we don’t get them. Think we’re going to go for a much more conservative strategy and look for good deals5
-
Docherty had a poor first 1/2 of the season, and an ok second half. I don’t think it’s bashing him to say that many are imo rightly concerned about whether he can cut it in the championship. I would be very concerned if he started 30+ games for us next season.0
