I’d be surprised if he went. The lure of Mansfield, Lincoln and the like vs the games in Championship doesn’t seem compelling, even as a fan. He has said the board are supportive, the fans are behind him, so why do that when he could always consider at a different time when further along with us?

If he does go that would probably sound alarm bells with the backing being given.
Playing devil’s advocate… Jones wasn’t happy with how quickly a significant amount of fans turned on him, before even half the season was out. In fact, he seemed fuming. So he may think that if things start to look sticky again, he’ll be turned on again.
on that basis, no wonder he turned millwall down then and went to us despite being in a division lower - won't be surprised if he takes an assistants role at footscray lions girls under 9's
Having spent a lot of time at both The Valley and The Den, I actually think Millwall fans are more patient. They are certainly less entitled. I think that is what upset Jones. Charlton have spent the majority of the 21st Century playing League One football, & finished in its lowest position since having to apply for reelection in 1926. Yet despite not being out of touch of the play-offs, fans turned on him. Despite him having to rebuild squad & the whole club after a decade or more of neglect.

I think the difference is, when Millwall fans turn on you, they really turn on you. And they also tend to turn on the players more often than the manager. I think that is because they think players should give their all, no matter who the manager is or how bad he is.

@Henry Irving  is this okay with you, sir? As I replied to a direct post. Doff my cap etc etc
Millwall are content with mid-table Championship football as the majority of their fan base have never experienced higher. There’s nothing entitled about Charlton fans  wanting to be a tad higher than mid-table in League One. Charlton in The Championship is bear minimum.
It is when the club has played most of the last 15 years in League One, under poor managers and awful owners. Jones probably thought he was doing a good job turning the club around, but then had a load of angry middle-aged men shouting at him before it was even Christmas.

He isn’t a Charlton fan, remember. He doesn’t remember getting on the Valley Express and watching Charlton in the PL. As far as he is concerned, he joined a neglected League One football club.
    And fuck off again.

I just watched the Wembley behind the scenes video and seeing Jones' reaction to the win again has convinced me there's no way he's leaving.

I think it meant too much for him to just walk away, even if it is with the team he supported as a kid.

We don’t all abandon the team we supported as a kid though. Look at Woodwork. He’s still Spurs through and through.
    Corrected for you.
I thought Milwall didn't care about us.

Harris famously called them 'thickos' after they booed him.

"Gary Rowett admitted he was hurt to hear fans chanting about him in the closing stages of Millwall’s 3-1 defeat to Norwich. The away fans made their feelings clear in the last 25 minutes as they repeatedly chanted about the manager. They initially criticised his style of football but also made an X-rated comment about the Lions boss that was more personal."

"Ian Holloway’s future as Millwall manager is in the balance after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat against Norwich. Chairman John Berylson and the board are increasingly concerned about results and animosity towards Holloway from disgruntled supporters who turned on him whenever he walked into his technical area."

No he didn’t but nice attempt to distort the facts.

Harris’ problem was with the DoF and the system he was being asked to work to. That’s who he was referring to when he mentioned thickos. He was being lent on to play certain players and he didn’t like that. He only really wanted to play his signings.

But what about that Nathan Jones eh? Is the lure of the homeland amd the support of all those blokes who picked on the weird kid when he was at school enough to telpt him away from the fickle fans who abused him when his team was shit/a work in progress and then loves him when it was winning?

Possibly only five or maybe three in the know. Nathan, his invisible friend Dafydd and the three in one father, son, holy ghost.

His speech in Boxpark didn't really give the impression of someone who was on his way out either. I genuinely think he'll be very happy with the set up he has at Charlton and i'm not sure he's going to get that at Cardiff with Vincent Tan.

Fair enough but the ‘thickos’ comment came after our defeat at home to Coventry. That defeat came on the back of a 9 game unbeaten run, a run that included a run of 4 consecutive wins. I was at the Coventry game. I didn’t hear anyone giving him stick. And I sit near the dugout. If there was it would have only been one or two lone fans. So it’s not like he was being hounded out as implied. Everyone was totally shocked when he jacked.

And it’s a well known (but off the record) fact that Harris left because of disagreements he was having with the hierarchy upstairs and the system they wanted to run the club to (one that Alex Neil has been fine with incidentally). You don’t hand in your notice because you lose one game in 10.

You wouldn’t blame him for leaving to go to a much bigger club, even if it means dropping down a division. Charlton was always going to be a stepping stone for him.
Quite. As you well know with Harris

    .....going to Cambridge.
Cambridge definitely a larger club according to ChatGPT 😉

While Millwall’s immediate catchment area is within a densely populated metropolis, the presence of multiple football clubs in London creates a competitive environment for fan allegiance. In contrast, Cambridge United benefits from a more defined regional presence, allowing for a much larger support base.

In summary, Millwall has access to a larger urban population, but this is tempered by the competitive landscape of London football. Cambridge United, while based in a smaller city, potentially has a more concentrated and loyal regional fan base due to its unique position within the local community.

Perhaps Jones will go to Plymouth Argyle then? As by this metric, they must be one of the biggest clubs in England. Them or Gillingham.

Mr. Idiot 😂 how can I ever get over such a cutting comment
his cover is going - i'll give him about another day or two on here unless he's millwall fan - not 100% sure he isn't
Mate, what you see with me is what you get. I mostly take the piss and have a laugh. I don’t have the time or the inclination to set up another account and post endless stuff pretending to be a Charlton fan. If I wanted to get a point across I would just do it as me. I wouldn’t feel the need to pretend to be a Charlton fan so I could do it.

The other day you said you only post on the Millwall related threads... Yet here you are... You know you're Charlton really.

That isn't quite true. The speculation comes from these quotes.

Now, not saying his mind hasn't changed, but he has definitely said he wants the job, and that he would never turn it down, as recently as 2 years ago. So that guy is wrong in saying it's just cause he's a Cardiff fan. He even speculated this season.

The speculation is here because not only have BBC sport done an article on the interest, the man himself has flirted with Cardiff openly.

Mate I feel like that’s a lot of words just to say you agree with the original tweet.

It didn’t even rule it out - just said they’d be dumbfounded if it happened, as would most people (but maybe not the nervous ninnies on here).

Des Buckingham is going to be announced as the new Manager of Cardiff this week as Tan likes the idea of not paying compensation of a million plus for Nathan Jones when he can hire Des Buckingham who is available and is also a course and distance winner via the League 1 playoff final in 23/24 for Oxford.

There is no truth that earlier this season when the Surrey club were struggling that Buckingham was going to join Palace as they were a good fit.

Exactly - there's nothing in this - cardiff probably would like him but he isn't going there now and all this £1m compensation stuff - says who? some bloke on a cardiff forum? no substance to any of it from what i can see

I don't agree with his tweet. It's not like Nathan Jones happens to be a Cardiff fan and a job has opened. He has specifically said he wants to manage Cardiff one day.

That's specifically the part of his tweet I disagree with, that he hasn't said he wants the job, he has, that's what the word never means if we are taking the quote literally.

It doesn't float my boat and and the quotes aren't that old.

I'll stop now cause I'm not really adding much here other than what's already been said. Just trying to pre-emptively soften the blow incase it does happen.
