Jones appears to be a manager that wants to work at the highest level possible. I can’t see him fancying another season in League 1
I could absolutely see him jumping ship to a bigger club, however I think he’ll also recognise that Cardiff would be a big step backwards at this stage.

I’m still wondering if Curbs will go to Aston Villa….21
-
If he does go he’s a bigger wanker than I already think he is. (That’s not to diminish his achievement for which I will be eternally grateful to him)12
-
He’d be better off going to Wrexham0
-
He does have a history of making idiotic career moves but this would top the lot.2
-
Omg please don’t say he’s leaving. But in Football nothing surprises me anymore. He’s a Cardiff boy so maybe the lure may be too great to resist. Just depends how much money they have.0
-
If he is thinking of leaving, perhaps he needs to look at the case of Michael Beale who seemed to be on a good thing at QPR and then left for Rangers and it’s all gone downhill from there.

I can’t believe people actually think he might drop back down to league one . Cardiff or no Cardiff .It’s not happening15

Plus, bet Vincent Tan is a complete fruitloop to work for.
Little autonomy there.0 - Sponsored links:

Cardiff are imo a bigger club, just about, so it wouldn't be a sideways or backwards steps in that sense, just league positions.
It would be a backwards step football ladder wise, but for how long. We could switch divisions again next season. We are currently one of the favourites to go down, unless we invest in the squad. Cardiff are one of the bookies favourites to go up.
Jones mindset could be:
- They were after my head only 7 months ago (Charlton fans)
- I may not get another/better chance to manage Cardiff
- Cardiff will pay me more, and I'll be closer to home.
Jones won't be thinking about the league they're in as much, just more so that it is Cardiff, and he will fancy himself to get them back up.
Alternatively he could be thinking:
- Charlton are in the league above
- I have a good relationship currently with the fans, board, and my squad
- I'll be going back a year in terms of progression.
The undeniable factor here is that he is genuinely a passionate Cardiff fan (similar to Chris Wilder & Sheff United) and has openly said it is his dream job, and he would never turn them down.
My hope is Tan will have someone else in mind and the compensation will be too much.
Yesterday I thought it wasn't going to happen as I thought they were after Buckingham and nearly had it done, now there's the ambiguous rumour that Jones is their target, it concerns me.
Anyway, not much I can do, that's my speculative thoughts, I hope he stays and Cardiff piss off.4 -
Stop this self-Flagellation just for a wee while and enjoy the fact we will be in the Championship for the 25/26 season.
Nathan Jones is in credit at Charlton, he is not being paid peanuts and I'm sure most managers have a promotion bonus so why would he jump ship to go back to Cardiff in League 1 where he would never get on with Tan in a million years.

Cardiff may be a bigger place but are they a bigger club? I don’t think so.18

Also, could be Jones using it as leverage to increase his budget with us.
All kinds of factors, I don't think he'll go but if he does then thanks for the compensation and getting us back to The Championship and we move on.2 -

Really don’t think he will jump ship. The last couple of times he has done it have been a disaster for him.
Personally I think it’s best to avoid managing the club you support. If it turns sour (and there is a very good chance it would under Vincent Tan) then that’s not going to be good for him.
He has got plenty of time to manage Cardiff later down the line.4 -
Cardiff fans seems to think Jones has spoken to the Cardiff hierarchy:

If he joined them and they had a poor first half of the season like with us last season, would he keep his job? I would say no and he would gain a reputation of jumping ship. Of course, the more successful we are the more likely the sharks will be swimming around our players and manager. But Cardiff are League One and would be a backwards step as it stands now.0

I think it is all nonsense

You’ve all lost the plot.
No way does he leave.10 -

I don’t think so.They have been badly run for a few years now, have an uneasy relationship with the owner to say the least & have struggled in the league, but have still averaged 18-20,000. Even in a relegation season. If Jones injects them with his passion, you can see them going up with gates of 20,000+ and then even more in Championship. In terms of history of achievement, Charlton would be the more successful (therefore ‘bigger’) club.0

I don’t get why people are completely writing this off, he’s a Cardiff fan and that trumps anything else.At the end of the day if Charlton called me up I would 100% listen to the offer whilst also contemplating the move despite what I have achieved at another club6
-
Nathan Jones said regardless of the particular league, his choice was to come and manage Charlton.
Given his background, his personal reasoning regarding Cardiff City would probably be the same, he would go there because he wants to go there.
If Nathan Jones is faced with a choice we shall see what his decision will be. If this really is some kind of thing I would like to see it resolved more or less immediately.

Can't see it happening with Tan as the Cardiff owner.
Des Buckingham is right there anyway so not sure why Cardiff would bother either.0 -
Jones odds for manager gone 33/1 to 7/4 their version of Cawley practically confirmed they’ve gone in for Nathan Jones. Closer to family, bigger wage, boyhood club there’s no reason like Eustace as an example why he wouldn’t jump ship given the opportunity. Also has the cop out he’s left us in a much better position and fans wanted him out earlier in the year. Wouldn’t blame him if he goes but does put us in a very difficult position next year considering how much effort we’ve gone to making this a NJ squad, back room staff etc. if he does go personally think we should just throw the kitchen sink at Selles and get him in early2

Wouldn’t be happy but JJ with SCP as assistant if it happens please and give them the money to have a good go!!2
