Is the 3pm blackout going to be binned , wasn’t there talk of this or is that just all it is , no meat to the bone with this

It won't change until at least 2029 when the current TV deal is up.
Would it require legislation (I.e is it actually law or just convention)?

We will have the dullest fixture possible, there's no danger of us having a standalone live TV fixture; that'll be reserved for the likes of Hollywood FC, Sheff Utd, Brum.

From a personal (and selfish) point of view I'd prefer an away game as it's my Dad's birthday on 8th August so I'd rather not have a home game getting in the way of the weekend!

I always prefer away to extend the summer.

I think the fixture list can make or break a season. I'm sure Ipswich opened up with Liverpool home then Citeh away. However well they played they were always going to be playing catch up and with a heavily negative goal difference.

I'd therefore like Oxford (h) then Pompey (a) then PNE (h). They could kick off at midnight for all I care, let's just get off to a flyer. Pompey had a horrible set of fixtures to kick off last season and couldn't get a win and it took them most of the season to kick on.
Our last season in the Prem i remember our fixture list horrendous at home for the first few games .  It wasn't the reason we were relegated but it certainly wouldn't have helped.

I can't remember the fixtures off the top of my head but i'm sure someone on here will know.

I'd like a home fixture against a decent team, rather than a probable fellow struggler.

If we play someone like say Boro or West Brom at home there's a massive upside if we win, but can write off a defeat as "playing one of the big boys", whereas if we are home to someone like Oxford, there will be a LOT of pressure on us to win, and a defeat would be really morale sapping.

Good to start with a home game after a successful previous season .. I'd fancy a WBA or Ipswich, a nice easy starter for3 lol

No legislation required - it's not a law, just a rule imposed by the football authorities on TV broadcasts in the UK. As such it is part of the TV deal with SKY/TNT/PRIME et al and therefore not likely to change before those deals are up for renewal.

First game will be a relegated side away to Wrexham
Leicester probably. Former PL champions against the Hollywood boys.

Yes I was being selfish - although the Hollywood Boys are nearer to home than Stoke. I can park at Stoke though, and use the box :)

That said - you can't beat a cold wet Tuesday night in Stoke for the footie.

As ever, Wiki is your friend:

I remember looking at the fixtures when they came out and thought we're going down this season, we're not going to pick up a point until October at the earliest!

    Some things don't change though:

Winnable home game would be ideal to start. Win first game in front of a big crowd and keep the momentum going from the end to this season

That was the season we really needed a kind start with the fixture list after such an overhaul of bringing in Dowie and all his signings. I knew just from looking at the fixture list we were doomed for the drop, big believer in early points and momentum can set up your whole season.

West Ham (a), Man Utd (h), Bolton (h), Chelsea (a), Portsmouth (h), Villa (a), Arsenal (h) to start
Tottenham (h), Liverpool (a) to end

Whatever it may be, it’ll probably be my first solo Charlton trip. Would love to meet up with some of you horrible lot pre- and post-match

Since before the playoffs I’ve had this feeling for Leicester away on the opening day.

You've never done a solo Charlton trip? How long have you been coming to games?

Wouldn't mind a Friday night at home if we were to be moved for the TV.
If the league has a Friday night game to start the season then this is nailed on to be Wrexham if they're at home.

2018. Will have turned 18 by the time of the first fixture, and my older Charlton-supporting brother's moved away to Spain. Gonna have to go it alone

I've been going to games alone since I was 14 (I'm 31 now). Every now and then I'll invite a mate or my GF to come with me, but I prefer the solo trips... Might just be because I'm miserable though

There’s something nice about going alone. You inevitably bump into someone you know anyway but you don’t have the faff of arranging where/when to meet and there’s something nice about leaving the crowds of people at the end and just having time to yourself

As someone that can be anxious as f**k about doing things alone, going to Charlton by myself isn't one of them. In fact I quite enjoy it when my dad and my brother both can't make it as I still get to sit with my football family in the F Block, and any new people are treated in the same way too. Same goes with solo away trips, you're always with great company even if you're by yourself.

like you, due to family circumstances changing I now end up going on my own more often than not. I grew up and got into Charlton when we played at Selhurst in the late 80’s. You literally knew all the Charlton fans at school on first name terms across all years as there weren’t many of us.

It may feel a bit daunting going to games on your own but it gets a lot easier the more you do it including away games, social media can help too and you’ll likely find some regulars you can join pre and post match too.
