Home or Away to start the season?

What would be your preference?

Keeping in mind that last season, the opening day fixtures were not 3pm kick offs so they could be shown on TV.

  • Wouldn't mind a Friday night at home if we were to be moved for the TV.
  • Home 3pm

    Home game would suit me.
  • I think all Saturday games will be 12:30pm for the opening day.

Home at 3pm on Saturday. My request would be a repeat of our first ever premier league game at home including the score :-)

amended as I’m getting old, see below :-)

They were for the Championship last year, while for League One they were all 5:30pm.

Last year both leagues kicked off on the same weekend so they got separate time slots. But this year the Championship starts one week later than League One and League Two.

    0-0?
  • Relegated side at Home on Sky would be a fun start.

Wasn’t it Southampton 5-0 or is my memory failing me, oh I missed out a slightly important point I should have put first home game in the premiership, I’m a stupid old git.

That was our second match (I was ball boy!), first was away to Newcastle.
I was up at Newcastle as well. Rufus got sent off.
  • If we get Southampton the game is definitely being shown live on SKY

Don't forget that the Premier League wont be starting that weekend, so if that's the case there is the chance that we could start on Friday night / Saturday 12:30pm / Saturday 5:30pm / or some time on the Sunday.

I don’t like so much of a staggered start. Feels unnecessary to have the top four leagues spread across three weekends.

    L1&2 1-3 August
    Champ 8-10 August
    Prem 15-17 August

And our starting 11 wore numbers 1-11

But all fixtures will be shown… so I reckon the police will still prefer the 12:30pm KO for all clubs. As they won’t want some potential fixtures at 5:30pm on a Saturday.

I think the fixture list can make or break a season. I'm sure Ipswich opened up with Liverpool home then Citeh away. However well they played they were always going to be playing catch up and with a heavily negative goal difference.

I'd therefore like Oxford (h) then Pompey (a) then PNE (h). They could kick off at midnight for all I care, let's just get off to a flyer. Pompey had a horrible set of fixtures to kick off last season and couldn't get a win and it took them most of the season to kick on.

I wonder if its for SkySports+

Did they do the same last year, with this staggered start?

The 3pm blackout doesnt come into effect if there is no Football in the top two Divisions, so wonder if Saturday 2nd August will see all League Two games on SkySports+ at 3pm, and League Two at 5:30pm
  • Home to Sheffield United.
  • Prefer an away game as long as it’s a 3pm Saturday kick off. Three months with no competitive football and we should sell out what hopefully will be a decent allocation to start the season, although knowing our luck it will be Wrexham and another 1k away end.

  • Home to Oxford.
  • Start away and finish at home.

On a practical level many families on holiday still given it’s only mid  August which can detract from the attendance. Although that said will still impact some the following week.
  • Away to Preston, on the TV and we smash them as revenge for the FA Cup last season
  • Is the 3pm blackout going to be binned , wasn’t there talk of this or is that just all it is , no meat to the bone with this
  • We will get Southampton in my view.
My preference would be Boro Preston Hull or Blackburn away to get one of the grim up north games out of the way early.

It won't change until at least 2029 when the current TV deal is up.
  • Home, and I’m expecting it to be Norwich, Ipswich or Leicester.
  • Will be away to either Brum or Wrexham. Friday at 07.45pm

The Friday fixture will feature one of the relegated clubs.
