Thanks for that snippet but I would have thought our spending plans would be kept very much between the owners, Nathan Jones and a couple of others like Phil Chapple. For a start until Sunday we or anybody else had no clue as to our league destination for next season. I know Jones has said it’s the same list whatever but I don’t fully buy that. Nope. Follow Charlton, as dad’s team. Have soft spot for Millwall, as mum, grandad, uncles, cousins, other half support them. So yeah… I don’t hate them like many Charlton fans. Which is why I would say I am more a follower, than fan(antic)!Todds_right_hook said:

Genuine question. How does a thirteen year old up sticks and move from South London to eg Newcastle ? Does his family get moved which to me seems ridiculous and totally unlikely. How does it even work ?YTS1978 said:

Which is fair enough. I’m just not that tribal. In fact I enjoy learning about all clubs. The only club I really dislike is Palace. Because I just don’t see them as a ‘proper’ football club. It’s going to be bloody tough without 6/7 real quality additions imo
as well as the team did this season, this is a massive step up. Godden has been class and is absolutely worth keeping, but Coventry, a competitive team in the championship felt it was the right time to move him on. Similar Docherty. I like both of them, but thinking 6 years on from when we were last in the championship, it seems like it’s even harder.You can’t argue with NJ’s approach and how it’s got us out this league and the focus on clean sheets, but I’m thinking, replicating that type of approach with the current players against some of the teams we’re gonna be up against 🤯 - going to be very tough0 -

Ages ago they’d have been put in digs with a family but no idea what happens now. Iwan Roberts and Craig Bellamy were both on the books at Norwich despite being Welsh sticks in my mind, must have stayed with someone surelyShootersHillGuru said:

I still think we could do a lot, lot, worse.
Comfortable on the ball, could play in a back 5, strong, quick, and most importantly is a leader.
One off season doesn't define a player, and he only turns 30 in June. Very experienced player to have.
I'd personally be happy to see him here.2 -

I expect cat 1 academy and the club as well would have accomodation specific for these types of scenarios. There are safe guarding concerns with someone that young away from their family. I'd be surprised if this was not the case.2 -

Is he better than Jones or Ramsay ? Then no, thanks . Any players brought in this season have to be better than what we have . What happens with the defence and especially CBs will be interesting. I find it hard to imagine we’ll pay good wages for someone to be LJs back up, and I don’t see Ramsay being replaced unless we sell him. One off season doesn't define a player, and he only turns 30 in June. Very experienced player to have.
I'd personally be happy to see him here.
What it definitely is though is an area we can trust NJ to get right. There’s a balance to be found between having enough experience, not using up budget on cover that we could do with higher up the pitch and having a pathway for our young defenders and WBs.2 -
The amount of money flying around at the top level I think a lot of things that seem ridiculous probably happen. I know that top PL clubs will offer to put kids through private education as part of signing them, it is really difficult for us to compete but we do so brilliantly of courseShootersHillGuru said:

But spending large amounts on a 13 year old is an enormous punt. Certainly take them on but I’d like to know how many thirteen year olds on clubs books go on and make it.NabySarr said:

We were fighting off Everton for one of our top academy boys. He’s a smart lad from a very successful family who are not likely to be swayed by shiny things and more money. He’s also at a very good school down here and it’s unlikely that would be matched oop north.

I think a LCB will definitely come in, and that will probably be our cover for Jones, as either the new signing or Gillesphey could play in the middle like we have done this year with McIntyre. Think Z. Mitchell will get a chance in pre-season and hopefully show he's good enough to cover Ramsay and Jones roles. Alex Mitchell might be one that moves on, but also might stick around as then we'd have 6 players so 2 per positionScoham said:

Saw on X earlier that Villa had signed a 6yr old they identified in Africa which if true is absolutely mental9
