    Today. Croydon. (Unfortunately)

    It’s about 1/2 mile long.

Said in the is defeat failure thread that yesterday was a must-win, we needed to win and failure was not an option.

Thankfully we did win and my thoughts remain the same. Yesterday feels like it could be a bit of a sliding-doors moment for the next 2-3 years. I feel like if we'd lost then we'd possibly be stuck in league one for another 2-3 years with a rebuild on our hands with the league being far more stronger than it was this season. I don't feel any of the losing play offs teams will make them again you can't help but feel some of the bigger teams will be stronger, it may have taken us 2-3 years of continuing through the cycle of losing our best players, replacing them, coming close but not quite close enough. Lets not forget until Jones ditched hoofball we were going nowhere.

But now, promotion gives us the opportunity to really add to the squad. There's no point really in speculating who we could bring in as nobody will have a clue what the budget will be for the season, all roads lead to our owners now, how ambitious are they, how much are they willing to spend/invest, how twitchy will they get if we're in the relegation zone in March?

What yesterday has also done for us is potentially unlocked some new support and given the bug back to those who have given up since the RD era. Even if only half of the Wembley 40k come that's a 20k+ crowd each week. If we start selling The Valley out again for home games is this going to make the owners think about the club infrastructure buying the assets back potentially, maybe even look at expansion plans for The Valley? It might seem a bit far-fetched to think about but the owners must have been thinking about this scenario when asked why buy us? Hopefully yesterday is what the first part of success looks like but how future success looks, again over to the owners. This is a fantastic opportunity to really start fulfilling the potential of the club.

Ok what do we think this means ?

see you next season in the championship? Or see you next season ?

I think Gilbert will go back to Middlesbrough and be in the 20 players involved on match days.
If Alex can find more stamina and be consistent with his set pieces, his passing was excellent in the 1st half against Wycombe. Hot and cold player but has talent.

His two assists from the corners kicks started our surge into the top 6 with Macca and Ramsey getting on the end of accurate set pieces

Agreed, a good read. Just one issue:

'Wing-back Josh Edwards, centre-back Alex Mitchell and forward Gassan Ahadme come to SE7 with positive reputations.'

Having whizzed through this thread this afternoon I know some have raised the subject of the empty back row on level two but does anyone know why row 16 wasn't sold?

They certainly were in 2019 because I tried to get exactly the same seats as then but had to make do with the same seat numbers on row 15 instead.

Releasing those for sale would have allowed at least a few hundred more Charlton fans to watch the team.

Wembley/Football League have only themselves to blame for not having an 80,000+ attendance, which is an insane number for a third division match.

    I have a question.
Does REG get a playoff winners medal as he only left in January? 🤔

Had a chest infection & nearly missed the game , a mate saved the day by driving me there.
Not pretty but who cares now, we are in the Championship.
Defensively I thought we were superb, defending from the front 2. A real team effort.
But offensively we were way off the pace.
I feel sure we will be looking to bring in a creative midfielder.
Looking forward to the close season acquisitions. COYR

I'm thinking Josh and Alex have proved both to have influenced our season in their own way. Edwards is obvious, Mitchell has stepped up when Jones has asked. His comeback against Burton showed the type of character he has, it was just Jones and Gillesphey were more consistent and a better pairing.
Ahadme, I think initially I had some hope and seemed ok, and I hoped that he would improve during the season, didn't help he played during that torrid part of the year.
Overall a poor signing for us, but he didn't hide or stop playing, it just didn't click this year. Will be interesting to see what happens over the summer

    One other comment about yesterday:

Final whistle ... we've won ... Red, Red Robin blasting out.

I've been banging this particular drum for a nunber of years but this should be part of our post-win celebrations as much as the tunnel jump.

Play the club song at FT when we win!!!
    Yeah. Worked really well

Well,we did it. Can only echo what everyone has written on here, a fantastic day and achievement. Special day for me,went with my boy,my brother and his boy and my nearly 80 year old Dad,started with a banging breakfast in Borough Market,to The White Horse for pre match pints, met friends inside the stadium for beers at the bar in block 529 where the atmosphere was chaotic and amazing. Post match drinks at The White Horse then onto The Sports Bar at Farringdon where we'd pre-booked a table. Barman showed us to our table where he had to ask half a dozen Orient fans to move😂,they did as asked, one of them really wasnt happy though. Food then onto the spoons on Blackfriars Road for further drinking and merriment,a long but fantastic day,all the more special to spend it with my family. COYR.

And the corner for Macca’s late winner at home vs Pboro

OK, OK but whilst these Wembley play off finals are all very good, on balance I think I'd rather get automatic promotion next year, please. :)

How do these people get f**king tickets? - I hope they're at least part of Valley Gold, although saying that, I bet the cheap gits signed up last minute, just so they could get Wembley tickets

    God I hate hangers on!!!

I've just watched some longer highlights. I gave Gilbert a bit of grief for not bringing his man down ahead of Orient hitting the bar and Jones and some others gave him a bit more than that straight after it as well. My memory was Gilbert came straight off but he had a few more minutes after that and in that time he slid in strongly on an Orient player just as he was about to shoot on goal and then stood strong and blocked the resulting free kick. I like a player who learns from his mistakes and doesn't make them twice and for all he maybe doesn't have the bastard instincts of a standard Nathan Jones player he's clearly willing to do the nasty stuff when directed. I'm not that warm on the idea of signing him but regardless I reckon Jones could mold him into the player he wants with time
