I like the look of Grady Diangana could be good right winger and still only 27...plus I think he grew up in Woolwich!
Was on 25k a week at West Brom only possible chance would be for him to massively drop his wage demands, not sure NJ would be a fan of his attitude issues apparently as well

This is going to be such an interesting (and crucial) transfer window. Significant investment required to have any chance of survival, let’s see if it happens.

I think it was in his interview with Geoff Shreeves on CBS that Jones said he’ll have today off and then the recruitment drive begins tomorrow.

I wonder if that Colchester lad: Tovide will be one we go back in for... If we were truly interested in January.

Could we go back in for Theo Bair? Big, strong mobile striker who we were linked with last summer when he was at Motherwell, and before we signed Ahadme. Ended up at Auxerre where he’s been a squad player.

I’m a fully paid up member of Nathan Jones fan club now but I have one tiny concern. I really hope he doesn’t start to believe in the hype and that he can turn the bulk of this group of players into Championship quality. Six or seven at best for me. We need signings all over the pitch and quality signings at that.

'Lightweight' is becoming the go-to criticism of players by people who don't actually know what it is about the player they don't like. It's effective because it covers every possible assumed failing without actually having to explain it or think about it. Gilbert? Lightweight. Berry? Lightweight. Coventry? Lightweight. This season I'm sure I've seen Gillesphey, Small, Campbell, Godden and Docherty referred to that way as well. It's absolutely meaningless.

You can have a like for that Garry.
I believe the only player I said was 'lightweight' was Kirk and I have explained why before and it must be the best description of Charlie who could be blown over on a windy day.

Gilbert is an enigma of a player as he did 3 passes in the Wycombe semi final which were as good as any passes this season in the 1st half at the Valley. He also won some headers and tackles but he has the Jonny Williams battery and fades once he hits 60 minutes.
At Wembley yesterday and not going with the Orient player looked poor and he did tire but had made a big block before that and it will be a shame if the last memory is of the Orient player not being tripped and taking one for the team.
A couple of decent corners yesterday and good decision to let Macca have the free kick and disappointed that no interviewer asked Docherty what he said to Gilbert; "leave it to mac" is odds on.

He talked about doing more than just aiming to stay up, so I think he’ll be ambitious and ruthless with the squad, but he’ll focus on bringing in quality over quantity as he also wants to improve current players (who are up to it) and bring through academy players.

Wonder if we’ll see someone we see as being really important let go or sidelined. Jones can be pretty ruthless

Gillesphey / Docherty / Godden / Mannion are the ones that really fit that fit that criteria I think; Jones loves Anderson and Campbell too much, whilst Edwards is on a four year deal, and Ramsay basically got shoe horned into a role once he was back fit.

Even Small if he was under Contract is someone I could see him possibly sacrificing if it meant the greater good for Charlton.

That Gilbraith fella would be a decent signing for us, and a realistic prospect too, I reckon.

We desperately need a midfielder who can run and take the ball with him ! Orient had great energy and Gilbraith was excellent with 54 passes and storming runs. The ex Man utd player is 24 and will probably get a move to one of the 3 relegated clubs from the Premier or even Wrexham or Birmingham. Unlikely to compete  in the race for him even though he is exactly what we need.

How about a return to the club for Alfie Doughty?

He must be on a fair wage at Luton £25k+ probably and will likely have top half championship interest.

Do we need him? - He's a Left Wing-Back now so would push Edwards out of the starting eleven. Unless you put Josh at LCB

When you consider that Birmingham and Wrexham will in no way be in a relegation battle next season, we will have to get more points than 3 established Championship teams. Massive task ahead.

We’ll see about Wrexham, they might have some Financial Fair Play challenges and shipping out some of their dead wood will be hard given the contracts they’re on.

He didn't say as much in the after match interview Shooters. He actually stated that the squad needs rebuilding for the Championship, how much rebuilding is required will be the subject of a hundred or so posts on this thread.

I hope the scouts are active in Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia .. quoted prices for English based players are all too often just ridiculously high

Still don't see anyone better than Caleb Taylor. Plays across a back 3 and a great season on loan at Wycombe.
Can't see him getting in the West Brom side next season so may loan him out but could accept a fee and still young and improving.

We should be looking to improve in all areas.  We have no alternative for Edwards at the moment .

We are going to have be ruthless. The championship is extremely unforgiving, and we can't really afford to have bad spells.

There are a fair few players who deserve a crack at the championship. Jones, Ramsay, Small, TC, Coventry, Macca, Edwards, Godden and maybe Mannion.

If I'm being really honest though, the only two I'm completely confident will make the step up is Lloydy, Ramsay and the version of TC we saw a month ago.

If we can upgrade any positions, we always should, regardless of how much we may like a player. That's just how it is as you go up the leagues.

Priority for me is that midfield and then the forwards. We are desperate for a bit more physicality in the middle (strength & height) and a bit more flair. Need a forward who can hold it up and has a goal in him.

I trust Jones to get it right.

Only Ramsay, Jones, Edwards, TC and Coventry definitely good enough for the Champ, if Small goes.
Godden, Gillesphey, Anderson, Mannion, Mitchell backups.
Docherty, Berry, Watson, Mitchell A, Aneke, Ahadme, Asimwe definitely not
That leaves a lot of gaps in the squad in order to be competitive

They generate an insane amount in commercial income & that’s only going to go up. I reckon they are the club least impacted by FFP because of that! As commercial income counts. They dwarf everyone else in that sense.

Got a funny feeling that this will be a fun thread to follow over the next couple of months…
Once the play off win reflections have died down, this will be THE thread over the summer, as it always is, finally reaching reaching a 'crescendo' as the window 'slams shut' - we have work to do folks - there's a lot of itk'ing, chewing over, exasperation, euphoria and bickering to be done - here we go again - COYR!!!!!!!
