It is a pity any of that squad will be released.
For example we generally thought Adigun, Santos, Chin and one or two others, well regarded by regular U21 watchers, might make it with us. But they were released.
Because he is contracted I believe Rylah will be loaned out next season, but it will be with regret if Aaron Henry, Harvey Kedwell, Toby Bower, Patrick Casey(!) and Seydil Toure are released…maybe one or two others too.
Some of those I have mentioned above will nevertheless make a respectable career in football.
edit Casey is under contract.0 -
Isn't Casey still under contract? Thought he signed a long term pro?0
-
Yeah, 3 year deal signed in 2023. Might even be an optional year they didn’t announce, as we saw with Leaburn.MarcusH26 said:Isn't Casey still under contract? Thought he signed a long term pro?

Casey is injured again but I'm not sure for how long.0

Thanks for this.ForeverAddickted said:I thought we usually got top two in the U18s?
U21s I don't recall us finishing top two for a while, as its an Age Group thats disrupted with players going up to the First Team or out on Loan
Edit: 1st - 6th - 7th - 1st - 1st - 2nd - 4th - 4th - 5th - 4th - 8th - 8th is our U21 record, with 2017/18 being the last time we got into the Play-Offs in the Professional Development League, 4th is definitely an improvement and a return to normality given the last two seasons.
I must have been thinking of the U18s, 4th not such a bad showing given recent history then0 -
Here’s how our U21s line-up in this afternoon’s PDL2 fixture against Coventry City U21s: T.Reid; Hobden, Gough, Toure; Brown, Huke, Henry, Trialist; Safa, Rylah, Wales Subs: MacLorg, Bower, Belton, R.Reid, Sol-Loza2
-
No Dixon but minutes for Aaron Henry0
-
Sadler gone. Maybe the last game for Toure, Huke, Bower too.
Good that Henry is fit enough to play. Travelled with the first team to Wrexham but would be very surprised if kept on next season.
Guessing the trialist is Ivanov.2 -
M'bick, Fullah, Mwamba, Enslin all with the first team I assume. Casey and Laqeretabua injured.fenaddick said:No Dixon but minutes for Aaron Henry0 -

They played very recently too so would be bad for their recovery to play so soon. Someone on Twitter saying Laq is injured. Feel sorry for Casey, could have been a chance at a breakthrough season but seems to have had bad luck with injuriesHenry Irving said:

We’re getting hammered 0-0 here0

1-0 Coventry. Been coming.1
-
1-0 to Coventry, quite a long time coming because they have dominated completely, with their triallist outstanding for them.
Very disjointed today.1 -
Forgot about the game. But watching the second half on the stream. Charltons passing has been awful, and players seem to not know where each other are supposed to be. Also Coventry very good at the press their players looking far more lively.0

Just as well you missed the first half - second has been a big improvement!msomerton said:Forgot about the game. But watching the second half on the stream. Quite a few u21 regulars missing which can’t help.msomerton said:Forgot about the game. But watching the second half on the stream. Rylah not got shooting boots on today. Finishes 0-1.1

Couldn't force our way back.1

Brentford and Bournemouth won their semi's v Sheff Utd and Burnley so the two southern section teams who pushed us into 4th place will face each other in the final.2

Brentford 3 - 2 Bournemouth in final0

Harvey Kedwell has posted on Instagram that he’s been released. Not a massive surprise, think he should be able to get a decent NL South/NL gig though2
-
Shame but not a surprise.fenaddick said:Harvey Kedwell has posted on Instagram that he’s been released. Not a massive surprise, think he should be able to get a decent NL South/NL gig though
Good lad, good engine and should prosper in non-league and maybe then move up.4 -
Family are very good friends with one of the Maidstone United owners, I am meeting up with them all on Saturday so may mention Harvey’s name to them as a potential option. Have always thought Maidstone should look to loaning him from us but now he’s been released, it makes perfect sense.8

Agree with that. One of the players I’d put down as solid at u21 level and can have a good career, but not quite at the level we need for the first team.fenaddick said:Harvey Kedwell has posted on Instagram that he’s been released. Hopefully he finds the right club and can work his way back up the leagues.2 -
Remember having a discussion on here with someone (possibly you!) about how you need solid players like him at u21 level to let your flair players try risky things and learn. Important in the development of others possibly to the detriment of his ownScoham said:

He was told the night before the recent under 21 match where he missed a penalty and then scored another just before the final whistle.Henry Irving said:

I understand a number of players from the under 21 squad are being released.3 -
Sorry if this is true.
I think he may still have a credible career at a modest level.0 -
Not sure if that was me, but I did say something along the lines of some players are solid and reliable at u21 level but the first team is a big step up, so that isn't always enough. They need that bit extra whether it's technically or physically.fenaddick said:

On your last point, of course you need a big enough squad to play matches over a season, and not every player is going to have the same potential to play at first team level. Even more so now we're back in the Championship.2
