Losing key players against Wrexham really affected us. I would rest as many of our best players as possible against Burton to avoid injury and give them a chance to recover before the playoffs. I've got a feeling NJ probably values momentum (and fourth place) more though and will put out a fairly strong team.
While the home second leg would be nice, I'm more concerned about not playing Stockport in the playoffs, which is out of our hands, as if Wycombe beat Stockport, Stockport will be our opponents.
We can potentially control getting the 2nd leg at home, which is preferable regardless of who we are playing, that's why we need to go for it against Burton on Saturday.
Ideally establish a solid lead as early as possible, then try subbing off important players with the 3 points in the bag.
Of course we need to hope for a win for either Wycombe or Stockport, but I think that's likely.

If I'm a supporter of either of those sides I don't want to see the ball leaving the centre circle for the 90 minutes. They would be mad. They have a second leg at home, can't see why they would jeopardize it.

Cue a 5-0, of course....
I think it's in Wycombe's interest to try and beat Stockport, the reward being playing the "weaker" team in the semi, and therefore avoiding us, the team who doubled them over the season.

I'm not sure it's that crucial. If we comfortably win the first leg at home, that would put massive pressure on the other team in the second leg, especially a team like Wycombe with flaky recent form AND who lost heavily to us a week ago.
Stockport away in the second leg would be tougher, which is why I'd just like to avoid them altogether.

I can’t see us taking a big enough lead at home to make the away leg a formality, whoever we play. And I doubt a 2nd leg trip to Wycombe will unfold like that league game a couple weeks back.
Given our occasionally shaky away form, anything less than a 3 or 4–0 advantage heading into the away leg would leave me feeling uneasy.
Put out a fairly strong team, get ahead and take players off after 60 mins. That will be the plan I think
And what happens if we are 2-0 down like we were against Lincoln ? Carry on with those players or sub them anyway? If you sub them anyway then you might well as not played them in the first place. If you want to win the game and you carry on with them then they might get injured or they wont get rested.
We are in the play offs. We can really only get 4th or 5th. Burton are now safe. The game has the hallmarks of a pre-season friendly.
I say rest the majority of the team & play the fringe players & the youth. If we hadn't "streamlined" the squad in January you could put out a decent 2nd 11. You reap what you sow Nathan.
I'm happy to go along with whatever Nathan thinks.
If we put out a strong team and get injuries some fans will blame him. If we put out a weak team and don't win some fans will blame him. If we put out a semi strong team and don't win some fans will blame him. If we put out a semi strong team and get injuries some fans will blame him. If we put out a strong team with a view of subbing them when comfortably ahead, we may well not get comfortably ahead. If we put out a weakened team with a strong bench we may not win the game.
This is the team I would start with. Rest: Jones, Berry, Ramsay, Coventry, TC and Godden and Small. Get the reserves match fitter in case they are needed.
There's a week between Wrexham and Burton, then another week before the playoff semi, so hardly an arduous schedule requiring fit players to be rested.
Of course we shouldn't play players with injury issues like Jones against Burton, but I don't see the need to rest fit and healthy players. It's not as if Burton will be flying into tackles against us, now they're safe.
Rest the ones that need it or are borderline fit. If we win with a fully fit lineup that has some reserves pulled up then great, momentum is a good thing. If we don’t then we have a good excuse and the team shouldn’t feel down entering the playoff. I think there’s positives with both a home or away 2nd leg, so let’s just manage the team as best to get them there in as good a condition as possible and mentally prepared…. and practice the pens please.

There was no reason for a Welling player to fly in against us in that pre season friendly and crock Leaburn for a considerable time, but it happened.

This is true but there have also been many occasions where our players have picked up injuries in training. Are we supposed to not train either just in case?
NJ is going to want to win the game so i think he'll go as full strength as possible. Players with knocks like Jones or Small likely won't be risked but he'll want to get the job done and then sub players off.

I think Wycombe will go for the win as they'll want to try and end their recent poor run of form. They won't want to go into the play offs on the back of 3 straight defeats.
Look at Sunderland, they had their play off place sealed weeks ago, have eased off, lost 4 in a row and now the manager has a job on his hands to try and get the players up for the play offs after they've been chilling for weeks.

Burton really should be on the beach on Saturday after that great escape. I'm thinking us at Forest in 1989 after beating Derby (Shilton, Wright et al) at Sellout midweek to stay up.
Even a half-strength side in front of a sellout Valley crowd should see them off comfortably.
You can also make an argument for Burton relishing a trip to a packed Valley. No pressure. Why not try & whack it in from 30 yards. Nice way to finish the season with a high profile scalp.

Playing without any pressure, free flowing against a side that could be a little nervous and not wanting to pick up injuries.
What's this all about, shakin' in yer boots stuff about who we are facing in the playoffs, come on, where's all the positivity gone, just because of a minor hiccup against the Hollywood mob last week, all of a sudden we're gonna struggle... We're Charlton Athletic ffs, let them worry about us, because whoever we play that will be good advice...we are going up ok...👍

We struggle when we can't play the strongest 11, so a half strength side could well be beaten.

I would rest Edwards. He is so important to us with his energy and long throws!

That was a 6th tier triallist at the start of the season trying to make a name for himself. A completely different scenario from a joyful Burton team looking forward to a happy summer after clinching survival this week.

In which case Jones should play the strongest 11, if you're sure they'll barely be putting in a tackle.
I can't recall the last time a team with nothing to play for rolled over against us. If anything they've played better because the pressure was off. Not like the "old days".

Rochdale at home when we beat them 4-0 in 2019 to get third place in the play offs pretty much rolled over for us that day especially in the second half, probably paying back the favour for us rolling over for them the previous season on the last day to help them to stay up.

I'm sure Burton will be knocking it around nicely, with the pressure off.
What they won't be doing is kicking lumps out of us, or flying into 50/50 tackles. Their players won't want injuries, and they won't want silly suspensions spoiling the start of next season.
