Florence will be fine, Rome however - we were there during Pope Francis' selection and the city was dead. It was lovely and peaceful. Until his convoy nearly ran us over by Villa Borghesesam3110 said:On a flight to Florence this morning, hope they get on with life as normal and don't grind to a halt too much because of it4 -

In the scheme of Popes, was a decent Pope. First Jesuit and Latin American Pope, with focus on helping the poor, did challenge some of the hierarcy of the Catholic Church initially.RIP.6

There will now be 9 days of official mourning, and conclave will begin some time after 15 days according to press reports0

so for us and DoctorCharlton, we are both arriving a few days after the 9 days of mourning (which includes the funeral). And Shrek and I leave on day 16, the day after the first possible day of ConclaveAlwaysneil said:There will now be 9 days of official mourning, and conclave will begin some time after 15 days according to press reports0 -
Relatively sure that Pope Francis, while a deeply caring man, will not have had in mind your tourist trips when facing his maker.1

What did he do for the victims of paedophile priests? Talk is easy, it’s actions that count.ME14addick said:Sad news whether or not you are a Catholic or even religious. He was a humble, kind man, spoke out against war and spoke for the poorest and most marginalised in society.4 -

Agree - It's unlikely the Catholic Church will ever open up fully.0

Hopefully he admonished JD Vance when he visited2

According to this Catholic website this is what has been done since he was made Pope. I'm not a Catholic or religious, but it is still sad news to hear of the death of a good man.AddicksAddict said:

What's your source? From a bit of research (so far), only Vatican museums but not the Sistine Chapel or gardens, St Peter's Basilica and Colosseum and most restaurantsBedsaddick said:

Because I’m going on a cruise which stops at Italy in June and they have put a message out today for those doing Italian excursions this week ( Rome , Piza and Florence) that the excursions are cancelled and most establishments in the ports are likely to be closed for at least a week.PrincessFiona said:

Yes, 'at least a week'. That's because there is 9 days mourning which is more than a week. 3 May is more than a week and after the 9 day mourning periodBedsaddick said:

'We can reassure you that the hotel will remain open and fully operational during your stay from May 3rd to 7th. Local restaurants and visitor attractions are also expected to remain open as usual. While a period of mourning has been declared, no specific restrictions or closures have been officially announced at this time.'0
