Fearnley gets into main draw at Barcelona as lucky loser.
on now sky sports tennis. won the first set 6 - 1 but the tide is turning and been broken in the second
Excellent victory for Fearnley winning second set 7-5 from 5-2 down. Carballes a clay court specialist but struggling with injury at the end of the match.
Good win in 2 sets for Raducanu. Clay clearly her least favourite surface. Commentator said only her (senior?) 17th match on clay. Especially after her worst performance last year was there in the first round
Against the player who beat Boulter in the BJK Cup

Most of the British players struggle on clay - don't get enough exposure to the surface.
I guess the issue is that while our players can practice on clay courts in the UK, they haven't grown up on them unlike a lot of European and Latin American players.
I know it’s anecdotal but when I played club tennis around SE London/Kent I only came across 2 clubs clay courts and they were in very affluent areas. There’s virtually no access to them here

Things have moved on it appears since then. Emma Radacanu's club, Parklangley in Beckenham have seven floodlit clay courts, both the Bromley Wendover Tennis Club and the Bromley Lawn Tennis & Squash Clubs have five clay courts each, Sundridge Park has seven floodlit clay court and the Bromley Sports Club have two. That's 26 within a two mile radius. Ironically, though, the Bromley Tennis Centre which is an LTA performance centre and where Radacanu trained daily has never had any as far as I'm aware.

The two I could think of were in that list (if my dodgy memory is correct)! It was less than a decade ago I was playing in the area. There may be 26 but they’re concentrated in clubs that had a comparatively hefty cost to them

Cost is probably the issue with the Bromley Tennis Centre. As I say, it has for years been an LTA hub but is actually owned by Newstead Wood School. Up until 2014 the centre was managed by Bromley MyTime but has since then been run by Virtus which is owned by coach and former GB player, Steve Matthews. The school is probably not worried about converting their four outdoor courts and no management company is likely to do so but it is strange that the BTC should be given such an accreditation when they don't have any clay courts.
1984ish I used to have a child’s membership to Shooters Hill Tennis Club (don’t know if it’s still about ) think it had 6 clay courts 2 decent ones and 4 shit ones it was a first come first play set up, except if you were a kid when we’d get kicked off the good courts on to the other courts when the adults came along ….. cnut club
