Madrid Open draw…
Draper 5th seed has a bye into round 2 and will play Griekspoor or a qualifier.
Norrie will face Spanish wildcard Landaluce in round 1 with the winner facing 26th seed Lehecka in round 2.
Fearnley has already won a qualifying match and will play his second qualifying round against Dellien tomorrow.
Raducanu will play Lames in round 1 - the winner of that will meet 24th Kostyuk in the second round.
Kartal will face Cristian in round 1 - the winner will come up against 17th seed Svitolina.
Boutler is scheduled to play Siniakova in the first round - whoever wins will play 6th seed Paolini in round 2.
Dart already lost in qualifying. Jones has one more match to win against Bucsa to get into the main draw.4 -
Fearnley through the qualifiers and up to 61st in latest rankings. Hopefully he won't have to play too many qualifiers as his ranking improves.2

I guess the issue is that while our players can practice on clay courts in the UK, they haven't grown up on them unlike a lot of European and Latin American players.2

I know it’s anecdotal but when I played club tennis around SE London/Kent I only came across 2 clubs clay courts and they were in very affluent areas. There’s virtually no access to them here1

1984ish I used to have a child’s membership to Shooters Hill Tennis Club (don’t know if it’s still about ) think it had 6 clay courts 2 decent ones and 4 shit ones
it was a first come first play set up, except if you were a kid when we’d get kicked off the good courts on to the other courts when the adults came along ….. cnut club0 -
