When he received the ball he had absolutely nothing in front of him and around 3 or 4 Mansfield players around him. He was trying to boot it up field, possibly into the corner, to create some distance and chase it down because he didn't want to get dispossessed that close to his goal. Not a bad idea in theory but as is often the case with Anderson the plan didn't survive the technique stage of the process and he just ended up blamping it into their keeper. Even then though, it was better having the keeper boot it back into us than him conceding a turnover around his halfway line so I personally don't think it was too badStig said:
Yeah, it was a silly ball and could have cost us. Only thing I was wondering was if he was trying to do something more clever but over hit it: A softer kick that just didn't have the power to reach the penalty box could have drawn the keeper out into no man's land and created a bit of mayhem at the back. Would have been tricky to get right though. It would have to be strong enough to turn the defenders whilst not reaching the box.jimmymelrose said:

I must have gone through every sort of emotion watching this game, and after Godden gobbled up the absolute gift of a back pass in the 22nd minute for the opener, having said that it was still a well taken goal, I thought here we go, how wrong I would be.
Mansfield were very well organied and had tenacity in abundance, and almost drew level immediately, the side netting was rattled, but no goal, however on 41 minutes they were level.
So second half started, and they had clearly been encouraged by the equaliser just before half time, because they really came at us, and some sterling defensive work was needed, whilst we did create some nice chances ourselves, nerves were jangling, until up popped TC with another stunner in the 75th minute to seal the three points, still Mansfield wouldn't lie down, and the last 15 + stoppage was frantic stuff, but we showed we are built of sterner stuff now, and saw out the game and journeyed home with the three points.
Special callout to every single one of the 839 die hard travelling Addicks, who never stopped singing from 1st to last minute, so on we go to The Valley Saturday and Lincoln City, where we COULD come 5pm be level with Wycombe and three points behind Wrexham should results go our way, COYR...👍3 -

Can’t believe I’m doing this but Golfie is bang on, Reading fans were extremely happy to gloat and celebrate after they beat us at The Valley due to a dodgy penalty and when we got relegated from the championship. I’m not going to wish anything bad on Reading but I’m struggling to have any sympathy for themgolfaddick said:

I've not seen it back but at the time I thought Ramsay was just trying to bring the ball down and got it wrong. Brown seemed to think the same on commentary.4 -

CAMPBELL: bullied, battered, often by two or more, Stags were rightly scared of him but he was tireless until he literally couldn't give any more, developing into quite the weapon. His burgeoning partnership with MG is key to our current form

There's still a decent proportion of fans who know right from wrong and would like to protect the league competition and it's clubs, even if the 'authorities' seem to struggle with that notion as well.1 -

Haha nah I wrapped up. I remember it being cold/windy from the FA cup game there so had a coat on, despite it being tshirt weather in Nottingham in the afternoon.
I saw a few lads get off the coach in just shorts and immediately regret it.

The EFL have their rules.....plain & simple. Their chairman has failed the "fit & proper" test and can no longer be in control of Reading football club. If he is come this Saturday (5th) then the EFL reserve the right to apply sanctions. It appears the first one is suspending the club from playing any more matches.swords_alive said:

I'm not saying it's fair. it's just the rules of the EFL. The same as a player getting 10 yellow & being suspended or failing a drugs test. Everyone knows at the start of the season what the rules are.

Completely different things though aren't they. Giving a bit after you win is very different to not having any sympathy for a football club being dragged to the brink by an owner who doesn't care about the club and is happy to see it die rather than face up to his financial responsibilities. It really wasn't that long ago we were protesting against Roland, dragged to the edge by Southall and watching our club go through the courts to see who the hell would actually own us. We were so desperate at the time for someone else to actually care, for the media to report more widely. Every day someone would ask on here why there wasn't more noise being made about the fact a 100+ year old club could be destroyed like this and here's your answer: as soon as it's not happening to your club it doesn't matter. How quickly we forget how grateful we were to Brighton fans for joining our protest against Roland (because they remember how these things feel at least) or when Burnley used their title winning pitch invasion to join in the chants against him. Part of the reason it's so easy for stuff like this to happen to clubs - leading to stupid situations like us not owning our stadium or training ground - is because there's not enough collective outrage from football fans to offset the EFL's lack of interest in anything other than money. I honestly can't believe there are Charlton fans who don't recognise the importance of showing at least a little bit of solidarity with a club that hasn't done anything other than be victimised by shit owners. I must admit, I did have a chuckle when I saw all the ‘old’ and ‘bald’ running down the terrace and on to the pitch for TC’s goal.

With a very notable exception, Luton and Wrexham retained their stadiums, Reading's current owner wants his money back, which is what he paid for the assets, almost certainly he wants more than they are actually worth, ring any bells, and it's unlikely that those assets will be purchased in time, their only hope is a rental agreement, but is the owner up for that ? who knows.jimmymelrose said:

I seem to recall a goal Chelsea scored at Stamford Bridge - probably 1980s. The shot went just past the right hand post on the outside, hit the stanchion at the back and came straight back out. Ref gave the goal! I think that may have been one of the reasons stanchionless (is that a word even?) nets came in.0 -

There's still a decent proportion of fans who know right from wrong and would like to protect the league competition and it's clubs, even if the 'authorities' seem to struggle with that notion as well.
I'm not saying it's fair. it's just the rules of the EFL. The same as a player getting 10 yellow & being suspended or failing a drugs test. Everyone knows at the start of the season what the rules are.
Without rules there is anarchy.

Thought Mansfield were more than tidy and will be no pushovers whoever they play. They still might have a say in top six as they still have to play Hudds (A) and both Orient and Reading at home.1
