Just don't mention the Full Members Cup Final v Blackburn, the attendance or the result.
Never really understood the Full Members Cup and only known of it's existence (and charlton got to the final of it) this season.
My late Dad and I were at Full Members Cup Final - an awful day, especially looking at the other end of Wembley, and seeing how many Blackburn had brought to the match, and then looking around at our end - felt, well, shite
The Spanner is obviously referring to the 1999 final where nearly 50,000 of them turned up. I suspect a lot were on day release.
Well it was their first time there tbf (seems to forget that Charlton already been their twice in a Major Cup final).
They get to win the Auto Windscreens Shield cup (is it me or is that funny considering it was called that) though, cute.
Yeah there's hundreds of us on here who were at both our FA Cup finals..........
The point being that the spanner fan was larking about a game over 25 years ago when comparing it to a promotion charge.
The stadium has change since then and rebuilt. If Charlton were in the Vertu Trophy (given it is the same competition) final than that crowd would be a better comparison than the play-off games.
I’m a Charlton fan and went with my mates who were ludagrets, Chelsea and spurs fans , was the only game my mates would stump out money for with me haha
Weirdly, there was a bloke in a Villa tracksuit top in front of me at Wembley 2019 !!!
Villa were in the next day's Champo playoff final v Derby. I guess he was making a weekend of it. Still an odd choice of attire for the fella.
Met Connor Hourahan’s (fuck knows how I’m supposed to spell that!) uncles in Borough Market after the match when we were celebrating. They were over from Ireland to watch their lad the next day!

Less said about the match / result, the better ….
That match was up there along with the 3-0 defeat to millwall at Selhurst as rock bottom as far as my Charlton supporting days go

We had bigger fish to fry......in staying up.
That's my take anyway.
Yes I agree with the staying up element - BUT, having got back into the top division after such a long time, and then getting to a Wembley final (yes, cruddy competition however) I really was on cloud 9 going to Wembley that day, only to suffer massive deflation - it was the amount of fans Blackburn brought that day, and then looking at our support on the day - we were by far the better side, but losing was a gut punch I didn’t need TBH
Such a long time ago the Full Members final was, but I’m hurting - weird isn’t it !!!
Pretty sure the full members came about because of the European ban, it was open to the top two divisions, although some of the bigger teams didn't bother entering. I remember feeling pretty bad after the final, mainly because I thought it would be the only time I'd see Charlton at Wembley. You had to get to a cup final in those days, then as now that was a remote possibility for CAFC. The whole afternoon was truly awful.
Let’s not mention how many we took to the first play off final against Leeds! Totally outnumbered at St Andrews- incredible we got out of there with a win and our lives !!!!

Or how many attended the semi-final 2nd Leg at Elland Road, the most intimidating atmosphere i've experienced at an away game.

Yes, and those same hundreds of us went to our first (old) Wembley appearances. 1-7 vs Arsenal Football League (South) Cup Final and the 3-1 vs Chelsea a year later.

I was at both. I got married earlier on that month. I thought I wouldn't get out of Elland Road alive, until they brought the coaches in. Phew!

817 v Bradford
Not sure if I’m proud or gutted.
The Full Members’ Cup for full members of the Football League (Divisions 1 and 2)
The Quarter Members’ Cup for quarter members of the Football League (Divisions 3 and 4)
One of these survived and bastardised into the nonsense we know today.
