Can anyone remember how many we took to Wembley for the last play-off final?

Millwall fan at work stating 'there's no way you took 40k like we did'

I did point out to him about all the extended family of Millwall inbreds that crawl out of the woodwork for their big events!

I'd say upto 5k may not have supported Charlton.

and that was just the Sunderland traitors

Weren’t there also charlton fans saying they bought the corporate/hospitality packages  (presumably Club Wembley) directly from Wembley for the matches. That would have potentially added a lot more
Yep, I was one of them, party of seven. One of them not Charlton, (my Czech neighbour) the rest definitely all Addicks. Rough guess (but I suppose the real capacity is stated somewhere) the lounge we were in held about 500.
  • Weirdly, there was a bloke in a Villa tracksuit top in front of me at Wembley 2019 !!!

Sunderland had taken 40k+ to Wembley a few weeks before that for the EFL Trophy final and were on a long run of losing at Wembley.

Their form also fell off a cliff in the last weeks of the season when they looked dead certs for automatic promotion but then ended up 5th. So i think a lot of their fans thought 'fuck this' and didn't bother traveling.

Millwall last Wembley appearance (vs Bradford City) 2017

Charlton last Wembley Appearence (Vs Sunderland) 2019

Unless someone corrects me- we took more.

Fair enough. Doesn’t change the fact we took a shitload of fans; and whilst there were a lot of “hanger ons” non Addicks, the overwhelming majority were Charlton!

  • I have said on another post i had a spurs fan on my right and a Chelsea fan on my left. The spurs fan brought along a mate who didnt really follow anyone. So i guess it was watered down a bit.
  • i was in a hospitality lounge with a small percentage of my mates, so that's another 3/400
  • More importantly, who started this argument ? I bet the Millwall fan says it wasn’t him…
    38,227 rounded up makes 40,000

Probably didn't like the math 😉
  • 27,810 for Millwall at their play off final.

Millwall fans are deluded if they think they are the better supported club. That’s never been the case. Look at attendance history.  Here are the last 4 years for them.

    24/25Championship15,086
    23/24Championship16,448
    22/23Championship14,767
    21/22Championship12,958

Last season was their best for 70 years:

    Spanners.
  • 1999 - The Lions to the club's first-ever official appearance at Wembley to face Wigan Athletic in the Auto Windscreens Shield Final. The Latics win 1-0 in front of 47,349 Millwall fans amongst a 55,000 crowd – a record number of supporters from one club at Wembley.

One of the spanners I used to work with, would always go about this.

Villa were in the next day's Champo playoff final v Derby. I guess he was making a weekend of it. Still an odd choice of attire for the fella.

The Spanner is obviously referring to the 1999 final where nearly 50,000 of them turned up.  I suspect a lot were on day release.

Portsmouth would've eclipsed that in 2020 (they sold over 50k) but their final was postponed because of covid and played later on.
  • Forget Millwall. Everyone Southern club will have a big day tripper outing at Wembley.

    What a day

Did you ever discuss home record attendances? Millwall 48,762
    Charlton 75,031.

Not really, he wouldn’t have understood numbers and which was the biggest.

Well it was their first time there tbf (seems to forget that Charlton already been their twice in a Major Cup final).

They get to win the Auto Windscreens Shield cup (is it me or is that funny considering it was called that) though, cute.

Just don't mention the Full Members Cup Final v Blackburn, the attendance or the result.
Never really understood the Full Members Cup and only known of it's existence (and charlton got to the final of it) this season.

It was put in place when English clubs were banned from Europe after the Heysel disaster
