Root survives a first ball LBW review meaning that India have just the one left for the innings now0
-
98-1 (15)
Duckett 63* (52)
Root 5* (10)0 -
Duckett tries to take Jadeja on in the bowler's first over and merely plants the ball down the throat of Hardik at long on for 65 (56)
102-2 (15.5)0 -
138-2 (25)
No need for aggression at this stage of the innings but the rotation of strike has been badly missing, particularly from Brook (28 dots from 38 balls)
Root 19* (28)
Brook 18* (38)0 -
Incredible catch from Axar over his head as Brook takes on a slower ball from Harshit. Brook was starting to find his way but will be frustrated that, having done the hard work, he's given it up for 31 (52)
168-3 (29.4)0 -
That innings told us quite a lot of where Brook's game is right now. He doesn't appear to have the inherent ability of someone like Root to find those singles and because he is out of form, he's been forced to use the innings as a "net". Eventually he was always going to have to revert to his natural game but that resulted in his dismissal.0

Buttler, batting exactly as he should in the situation in going at a, without risk, run a ball then gives it up trying to go "in to out" without finding the gap or elevation and is caught at wide mid-off for 34 (35). That's all four batters getting out when they are "in"
219-4 (38.4)
Root 51 * (61)0 -
230-4 (40)
Another 80 off the final 10 might get us to a competitive total0 -
Root becomes the fifth batsman to, having established a base, go out with a wimp. Times the death off a ball straight down the throat of Kohli at mid-off off the bowling of Jadeja for 69 (72)
248-5 (42.3)0 -
Braindead cricket from Jamie Overton. He decides to have a massive swipe at Jadeja's very last ball of his spell and merely ends up hitting the ball straight up and is duly caught for 6 (10)
258-6 (45)0 - Sponsored links:

Atkinson becomes the seventh batsman going for a "big one" - out for 3 (7)
272-7 (47.1)0 -
Rashid showing what a difficult batsman he can be to set a field to because he can hit them in "different" areas - 3 boundaries in 3 balls off Shami
287-7 (48)0 -
"Keystone cops" running sees Rashid run out for 14 off just 5 balls
297-8 (48.5)0 -
Livingstone run out for 41 (32) going for a second run in the final over to retain the strike
304-9 (49.4)0 -
Wood run out by the keeper trying to get the strike for 304 all out (49.5). Can't help thinking that we could have made another 20 or so runs with a bit more application but, there again, we won't truly know if that is the case until we see India bat on this wicket0

Doesn't really matter but England fail to see out their overs yet again.
At 175/3 after 30 overs they should have got to 340/350. Even 320 would have been nice.0 -

Issues with the floodlights flickering on and off mean that play has been stopped and the players have left the field with the score on 48-0 off 6.1 overs. It might suit our needs for that to be permanently the case!!!0

I'll never complain about The Valley floodlights again2

About to resume, once, that is, the Michael Jackson fan of a DJ decides that everyone's had enough of "Thriller"1

England's team selection seems to be "If it doesn't work, keep trying again with the same tactics. And again."
Ridiculous that Rehan Ahmed hasn't at least been given a game.0 -
Kohli out.
That's always nice to see.0 -
Kohli smashes the ball into the gloves of Salt but the somewhat hard of hearing umpire gives it "not out". England review and it is at that point that Kohli might just have started his walk to the pavilion. Too little too late for England one suspects
150-2 (19.3)1 -
Sharma reaches ton with a 6. An effortless innings to date of 102* off just 76 balls.1
-
Great catch by Rashid running back from a ball from Livingstone that Sharma (119 off 90 balls) turned into a full toss by charging down the track
220-3 (29.4)1 -
The accident that was always likely to happen with these two batters has - Iyer run out for 44 (47)
258-4 (37)1 -
Two more wickets fall leaving India on 286-6 off 42 overs1
-
India win by 4 wickets with 33 balls to spare. We were flattered to get that close. This is India's seventh consecutive series win against us.0
