We need one midfielder to “replace” the minutes and ideally exceed the performance of Campbell and Taylor, hopefully by being a bit more attack minded on the ball than those two.
Otherwise I don’t expect there’ll be much else done.2 -
Braziliance said:I genuinely think I was the only person who credited Carlisle on their transfer activity? So that's fast become a bit of a Charlton Life myth that 'people' said when it couldn't have been more than myself a couple of others?
I don't think anyone was jealous that Luke Armstrong went to Carlisle. I don't think anyone actually wanted the players Carlisle were signing here.
From my point of view, it was more so that Carlisle were bang in trouble, and instead of just letting it happen, their owners at least tried to correct it and signed a couple of decent players in Armstrong and Harry Lewis. I'd watched Harry Lewis in person so knew he was a decent keeper and an upgrade.
They went down, and they're struggling now. The point is being missed entirely though. They spent money to at least try, and have ready made players for league2. It hasn't worked, and they're looking likely for a double relegation, which might suggest their troubles are deeper now than a few decent signings?
Either way, it's fast becoming a Charlton myth and a complete exaggeration.1 -

I never wanted us to compete with Carlisles signings, but we were both in a relegation fight, and reinforcements would have aided us, that was my point. Not the money they spent, or the quality of player, but that they were trying to increase their odds.
We are now in an opposite position where we have a squad that's a couple of injuries away to key players disrupting our season. We also have some players who look very tired 60 minutes onwards last game. A few signings, when money can be spent, despite the myths, would seriously help us. If they don't, we will have had to have made some additions in the summer anyway.
No matter what I say though, this time next year, the same old posts will be made. It would just be nice to not see the included Carlisle posts be a recurring theme along with the usual nonsense as it's a complete fabrication and based upon 2 users posting, not a decent % of people saying it.
Apologies to the people who check the thread for actual rumours and seen my clutter.
Petty, petty fucking forum. Especially the last 2-3 years.12 -
Heard one from a semi reliable source.
There is interest in Walsalls Jennis still and we are considering offering Kanu on loan to them for rest of the season as part of the deal. They've just lost their top striker Lowe who has been recalled to Stoke so are in need of a replacement.

If it was on loan though (and Jellis was permanent the other way) it might be worth the gamble.3 -
Braziliance said:It's not creating an image though. They weren't lying and saying that they went for x player but x club came in and stole the deal to create an image that they went for it.
They literally spent the cash. Whether or not it worked is an entirely different conversation, but they didn't do it to "create an image of giving it a go" they spent money hoping it would be enough to keep their club up. It didn't, shit happens, that's football.
I'd rather we spent a fuck ton when we are on the verge of play-offs than have to start again next season, especially when we have billionaire owners.
I'd also rather Ana de Armas was giving me back rubs while I scrolled Charlton Life, unfortunately, both myself and the club don't appear to have the capacity, life goes on.
I just wanted to address the Carlisle thing as it's nonsense and shouldn't be a recurring example everytime a transfer window pops up when it was pretty much one person who said they're giving it a go.
Absolutely shite thread this is.
We are doing something right as it stands so top it up with quality instead of quantity. People mentioned we needed to change how we spend the money and now we might just do that so see how it plays out.3 -

People said it and you were one of them.
That you are now back tracking is neither here nor there as you said it at the time.
Call it petty if you like, I prefer to call it citing evidence.5 -

If it's not a fabrication, it's at the very least an exaggeration. Me and Golfie don't speak on behalf of a majority fan base and whoever else may have said they respected Carlisle for trying to stay up when they were projected relegation anyway.
"Citing evidence" fucking hell. Do me a favour, this isn't the supreme court. It's a Charlton Life transfer rumours thread.

Five pages of absolute guff, can we keep this thread for rumours.4

I remember the Carlisle conversation quite well because I retorted back at the time.
Brazillance had a view point that the Carlisle owners cared more than ours, because they were spending money early in the transfer window whereas ours had not.I can understand the view point because we were really in the pits at that point, and as a fan you panic and crave some sort of action to get us out of it.
I didn’t agree with this view and said so at the time. But I don’t feel it’s really worth dwelling on now, the beauty of football is the emotion involved and how things can rapidly change.2 -

The key point now is, the squad does need investment! They need to put their hands in their pockets and I hope they do.
We are not talking millions, just a few value add players in positions that are needed ACM and Winger!3 -
