Just realised there wasn't a WSL thread, so I thought I would make one for WSL content.

There is a sub point about the Women's game below that mentions the growth in the Women's Game (WSL and Championship)

Record crowd at Stamford Bridge to see Chelsea beat Arsenal (plus the unveiling of record signing Naomi Girma) by 1-0.
Katie McCabe got herself sent off for gobbing off at the ref.
Chelsea running away with the title it seems.0 -

Keira Walsh is set to sign for Chelsea for £800,000

What’s going on with Chloe Kelly?Seems she posted something on social media about not being able to move from City but it’s been taken down.
She obviously needs to play to stand any hope in getting the England side.
Be interesting to see how this pans out.0 -

She wants to move to United but the club seem to be blocking it. She could have gone to Brighton but she rejected that as she wants to stay in NW. She posted a long note about wanting to go, I presume to force the moveKBslittlesis said:What’s going on with Chloe Kelly?Seems she posted something on social media about not being able to move from City but it’s been taken down.

Crikey that’s a brave move going from the blue to the red side of Manchester.fenaddick said:

Seeing as they know she wants to stay ‘oop north’ that seems very petty from the club imho.MarcusH26 said:0 -
Or could be an exchange deal they are working on.KBslittlesis said:

Kelly back to Arsenal and Wienroither went the other way. (both players cannot play on Sunday). Seems there are deep wounds that would need to heal if she (Kelly) was to go back to City. Her contract is expiring this summer though.

Chelsea's spending (much like with the men's team) is crazy.EpsomAddick said:Keira Walsh is set to sign for Chelsea for £800,000

The 2 most expensive transfers in Women's football history are now by them and in the past week.
900k for Girma.
800k for Walsh.0 -
Women League Cup (might as well put it in this thread)

The WSL seem to exist so the big clubs can try the stuff they'd never get away with in the Premier League.JustFloydRoad said:2 -
Representatives from all 23 clubs across the WSL and Women's Championship attended a quarterly meeting last Friday.
Among the topics discussed was the suggestion to temporarily scrap relegation in the WSL, but still allow one club a season to earn promotion from the second tier.
A two-thirds majority vote, to be taken by all clubs in both tiers, will be needed in May for the change to be made.
You say this (and is a point I made on the Charlton Women thread)- our chairman, owner of the Charlton Women's team, has gone on record supporting a closed league.InspectorSands said:

He does state that teams invest in women's teams to write of losses (if this is what you are talking about).0 -
Closed shop will kill the women’s game1

What are those in teams not in the closed shop playing for. What will they as a team achieve if there is no promotion or relegation that could take the team to the best professional league and it's national profile.JustFloydRoad said:

Loads of dead rubbers towards end of season if no relegation. Why would teams not in the closed shop invest in coaching and facilities if they cannot progress?0
-
For most Premier League clubs, other than the 2 or 3 that might have a shot at the title, the WSL would turn into an elaborate ruse to get round the spending rules. Clubs are allowed to lose money on their women's team without affecting Financial Fair Play, but any income generated that isn't specific to the women's team (such as extra sales in the club shop and possibly bar takings although I'm not sure about that) can be counted as income for the men's team. It's not big amounts in the overall scheme of things, but these clubs are right on the limit of what they're allowed to invest and a few thousand extra shirt sales to kids who come to watch the women is a bonus if you're the sort of owner who doesn't need to worry about losing a few million running the women's team.0

Why not have a play off system? No relegation will be bad for the league for the reason you have stated.MrOneLung said:Loads of dead rubbers towards end of season if no relegation. Why would teams not in the closed shop invest in coaching and facilities if they cannot progress?0
