Prince Harry settles legal claim against Sun publisher

The only thing I could think of now could he not fund a criminal investigation alongside the MET?1

He knew what they'd done and stuck to his guns. If it was only about money he would've settled ages ago, just like everyone else did, but he stuck with it and faced them down. Fair play to the ginge.1 -
Will he pay his settlement to charity like his brother did in 2020?2
-
I don't know the facts of what "his brother did in 2020" e.g what the settlement amounted to after legal costs, and which charities were the beneficiaries; however my personal hope is that if Harry actually has some something substantial after legal costs, he might donate the biggest chunk to Hacked Off. This excellent lobby group, founded by Hugh Grant, very much needs to carry on with its campaigning; I think it would have preferred to see Harry's case go to court, but would hardly complain since Grant had himself had to settle - he was faced with the serious risk of bankruptcy even if he had won the case - a shocking commentary on the state of our laws in this area and more broadly how British justice has been taken out of reach of ordinary people, e.g. due in part to cuts in legal aid by the usual political suspects.PrincessFiona said:Will he pay his settlement to charity like his brother did in 2020?
But at the end of the day it's up to Harry. He is a human being, who lost his mother in tragically avoidable circumstances, due to the activities of a section of the media which Murdoch had essentially made above the law. I thank him for his courage in facing Murdoch down and s far as I'm concerned he can do what he wants with the money, as can anyone else who wins a legal settlement.

Why should he?PrincessFiona said:Will he pay his settlement to charity like his brother did in 2020?5 -
Happy for him, hopefully he finds peace now. His vendetta against the press is completely justified in my opinion.

I've not read he faced bankruptcy even if he had won the case0 -

I really don't get the hate for him you know.
Good luck to him.17 -
I don’t hate him, but for someone who wants privacy and has effectively left the royal family to get that he needs to fade away and get on with family life.JohnBoyUK said:I really don't get the hate for him you know.

Errrm.
Harry had the temerity to marry and have children with Megan Markle.
Not the kind of thing the English establishment with all its tentacles find easy to accept.
If Harry can find a way to simply be an anonymous person then great, but the accident of his birth is a double edged sword, on the one hand wealth and privilege but on the other hand no privacy, plus being someone in the cross hairs of nutters.
Wouldn’t it be great if he could fade into anonymity and lead a quiet life, but as I have said, the accident of his birth has forced him into a world that is very unpleasant.3 -

Yes but….. don’t write a book, have interviews / programmes on TV and a high profile in social media.seth plum said:Errrm.

IMHO his mistake was marrying Meghan who wanted the attention of being a ‘royal’. I will be b surprised if their marriage lasts. He will blame the royal family when it breaks down and try and come home.4 -
And another thing….he blames everyone but doesn’t take responsibility for his own part in it. I get he was born into the royal family, yes his mother died when he was young etc etc but man up and stop whining.

Yeah, he ain't had to suffer like we have over the last few years and none of us moan about itArsenetatters said:And another thing….he blames everyone but doesn’t take responsibility for his own part in it. Odd the stick Harry gets. I read somewhere that there were 40 others involved in the case against the Murdoch group and 38 of them were offered so much money that they took the settlement. Given that teh News of the World was tapping the phone lines of the parents of murdered children when it was caught, there seems to have been no real clean up of the sewer that these newspapers inhabit. Seek information by any means possible and print it to make money, and then pay off anyone who actually has enough money to stand up and call them out on their behaviour.
I'm not a monarchist, but from nearly any perspective, Harry was on the side of justice here and Murcoch's empire has essentially bought its way out of another disgusting mess.17 -

Interesting (and not at all surprising) none of the front pages I’ve seen are leading with it, cartel like behaviour.5 -

In his case he can never be free of his cross because of the accident of his birth. If he exploits that for money I don’t particularly blame him because he is trapped.Arsenetatters said:And another thing….he blames everyone but doesn’t take responsibility for his own part in it. Most people then navigate. It is particular for him because of the accident of his birth, which invites others to sit in judgement over him.

My point was it should be 'British'. But, yes, I've seen that ridiculous statement, or similar, about comments by people who criticise themHuskaris said:

My issue with Harry, especially after reading his book, is that he has serious mental health problems and I don’t think how he is living his life at present can be helping him.
But he’s an adult, has no idea who I am and as such I can do feck all about it.For the sake of his own kids, I hope he finds what he’s looking for.1 -
