@Raith_C_Chattonell - I love that picture of the Bookie! When Dad worked at Charlton Dogs it was these characters that fascinated me as a 10 year old.1

Our first house was in Crayford - when the kids were little, Saturday mornings it was free entry - bar opened early doors - only did low bets on the Tote - my son’s strategy - bet on first dog to poo on parade pre race - surprisingly successful 😃
And sod off anyone coming on here and giving it the negative about Greyhound racing - down at the traps and listening to them anticipating the race - they love it - in their genes
Fantastic to watch, so fast and graceful2 -
Also a very long article in the Times about it yesterday.0

Though id throw a quick addendum - Obviously I don't want to do so and perhaps my sarcasm didnt come across, my point is that to a certain degree fighting other dogs is within their genes when conflict naturally occurs, just because thats true doesnt excuse the cruelty of dog fighting as a sport0 -
My mate had a couple of ex racing greyhounds and they were the laziest dogs I have ever seen. 30 minutes walk/run in the morning, 30 minutes walk/run in the evening and 23 hours in their blankets somewhere warm indoors. But of course not all ex racers go to good homes.2

Is every trainer like that? No, but that happens in all walks of life, some trainers/coaches in football rule with an iron fist and some with a silk glove1 - Sponsored links:

People can pretend not to understand if they wish, but ultimately dogs die because of greyhound racing and people accept it but they cry cruelty when its done in dog fighting because they dont enjoy it.
as for research below are a couple resources about the cruelty -
Greyhound Racing | The League
Why it's time to end greyhound racing | Blue Cross
Calls for greyhound racing ban as new figures show the scale of deaths and injuries
Greyhound Racing | Campaigns | RSPCA - RSPCA - rspca.org.uk

Studies have also shown that dogs arent designed for running at high speeds on oval tracks so the idea of in their genes doesn't make sense (link below), as with dog fighting one can say conflict and fighting is in their genes but to have their aggression artificially increased and stimulated isn't much like running on an oval track after rigorous training and on demand isn't

Look I'm no saint either and I'm not saying if you enjoy it your actually a bad person, I used to enjoy it too and went Crayford a few times but when you do your research with an open mind its pretty indefensible

All dogs are bred for whatever purpose we give them. There wouldn't be any dogs for racing, fighting, hunting, herding, barking, shitting, pampering and cooed over by the vast majority of people in this dog obsessed country if it wasn't for humans.
Of course that then means we have the responsibility to make sure we look after them.1 -

My mate's mum worked at Crayford Dogs for some 30 years. We'd always ask him what trap she was running.3
