POST-MATCH THREAD: Bolton Wanderers v Charlton Athletic: Tuesday 21st January 2025: KO 19:45
Bolton came out in the second looking the better side and drew first blood on fifty-five minutes when Joel Randall burst into the box with plenty of space to put the ball past Ashley Maynard-Brewer. Bolton looked good for a victory but a change to a midfield diamond saw Charlton regroup.
The equaliser came through a Macaulay Gillesphey cross that found Lloyd Jones lunging into the box. His deft touch put the ball past the Bolton keeper and turned the tide in the visitors’ favour.
The winner came on eighty-six minutes when Charlton pressure produced a skied clearance that fell to substitute Karoy Anderson who nudged away his defender enough to take a touch and have a shot that was deflected over the Bolton keeper to complete the turn around.
Charlton return with three points and Bolton are left shaking their heads as their fortunes ebb away.
Bolton 1 Charlton 2
Over to you.

What a turnaround. Although we battled hard it’s undeniable that we were outplayed for at least 60 minutes of that match. Great credit to Nathan Jones for the tactical and personnel changes that helped us turn it around. Yes, it was a fortunate deflection for our second goal but don't underestimate the skill with which Karoy Anderson turned to create the space for his shot.
A hard won win and three invaluable points going into our next two, very winnable, fixtures.

Yes, doing it at their stadium after about a million years without a win there 😃Uboat said:Is there anything sweeter than the undeserved victory against an irritating opponent?19 -
We have not done the double over Bolton Wanderers for many a long year, maybe never.3

It all felt different as soon as the subs were made. First time I’ve felt that in a loooong time.
Delighted.
And I love hearing my Bruv happy.
Oh & Matete is a fecking dirty barsteward 🤬35 -
That’s a big win, follow that up with the next 2 games then I might start believing 🙏0

What a win and all that.
But why don’t our players appeal for anything? Second yellow in the first half, the shirt pull on Chuks, the stamp on Small. Not saying they’re all decisions that should go in our favour but surely you at least appeal for them? Never gonna get anything from the refs if u don’t bother appealing.9 -

1999/00 season... Although we played them three times that year, and they still stopped us going to Wembley with that win in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals.seth plum said:We have not done the double over Bolton Wanderers for many a long year, maybe never.3 -
First of all well done to those who done the trip you deserve that win. Now, how on earth we are 4 points off play offs with a game in hand I don't know but I'll take it.
Get in a couple decent players this January including a no10 who can knit the play together and help our attack flow and we could do it. This league is crap any team that puts a run together can get play offs.10 -
Well, did not see that coming when we were 1-0 down. Chuks and Anderson 💪 happy with that.6

Never a dull day…really really happy with that3

That’s the kind of fight I expect from a Nathan Jones side. It might not have been pretty but we didn’t give up and showed heaps of character. Having Aneke on at the end made such a difference and him and Small know the dark arts. At this stage I don’t care how we win as long as we do8

Subs made a massive difference. We upped the pressure and looked like we really wanted it. I think their shithousery and blatent cheating worked against them and wound us up!7

That was mad. Turning point in our season i think, cos we dont get luck like that,6

Turned over at the end in time for a 98th minute equaliser for Cardiff at Millwall ... all helps to raise the spirit.Uboat said:Is there anything sweeter than the undeserved victory against an irritating opponent?8 -

After 170 minutes of pain, it's weird to think that we're one point better off over the past two games than if we had achieved two credible draws.15

For sure the subs and Jones finish got us out the shit we desperately need more quality to get hold of matches.BigDiddy said:
Jones will large it up now - it was utter bollox and without LJ we would have lost that.Uboat said:Is there anything sweeter than the undeserved victory against an irritating opponent?2 -
Loved Smalls passion38

If we can find an attacking mid to replace Berry and a left centre back to replace Gillesphey we may still make it to the playoffs. They are consistently now our weakest links.8

The FA should take a look at that assault by Matete and take retrospective action.KBslittlesis said:It all felt different as soon as the subs were made. First time I’ve felt that in a loooong time.

Can’t understand how the ref didn’t send off the player stamping on Small’s achilles.
Well done Jones and the whole team. It took character and determination to win that.4 -
Maybe not deserved but very much needed, hopefully sets us back up for another little run of wins and maybe even loosens up a few purse strings.
Better to play badly and win than to play well and lose so that was very much mission accomplished.
N Jones has to get credit for using subs well and managing to genuinely turn things around mid-game, suspect he's going to have to put real thought into who gets the nod next time out but for good reasons for once.2 -
Got my prediction right at 1-2, although it was harder than I would have wanted, Nathan changed it around second half and it paid off, oh and Anderson's volley was heading towards the far post and in before the deflection.
A good result in the end and one of the games in hand as well, so 4 points off 6th, with another game in hand, this is getting interesting...1 -
Huddersfield v Bolton and Orient V Reading Saturday... chances to reel the top 6 right in now..10
