Will we even be able to terminate the loan of Allan Campbell? Isn't it a season long loan so we're stuck with him regardless?

Other outs I'd expect Edun to be the only other potential one bar a couple of younger players like Mbick or Casey going on loan once fit.
Why would you expect Nathan Jones to want to send Allan Campbell back to Luton? Unless he’s going there to replace Edwards after all.

Because he is less useful than a chocolate tea cosy.

How good you think he is is irrelevant to the point I was making lol

Isn't starting every week and Luton could have clauses about minutes. Hardly think we'll be in their good books after the Louis Watson loan last season.
  • Luton, Ipswich, Man City all on the blacklist

I doubt they will. Campbell isn't a player they want us to help develop for them, he's a player they want off their books. They might have hoped he'd put himself in the shop window with good performances but at this point I think they'll just be happy not to be paying all his wages
Exactly, he's much more like Lee and Shinnie, an experienced Luton squad player they don't want.

And Louie Watson fell into the same category really, considering Luton released him in the summer and that he still doesn't have a club.

Honestly City might top the blacklist - Fiorini,Tedic and Razak off the top of my head were all absolute failures.
And one of the many Matt Smiths

Had forgotten him entirely! Which shows how good he was 😂

You forgot to add Swindon to your list.
  • It's a lot easier to name the good signings tbf :)

Varjund is only 17 I think so probably not what we need right now sadly.  But at 6'4" he's certainly going to be a presence and has been somewhat prolific at youth level.  The kind of player we would go for if we were forward thinking and had a bit of money to invest.

There was another Estonian I suggested in the summer called Egert Ounapuu - he's 19 but didn't have a great season in first team football after also being prolific in younger age groups too

Not sure if it's the standard of coaching that affects players moving in to men's football or if they are just a flat-track bully at youth level and that doesn't translate in men's football so they need to make adjustments to their games (which again points towards coaching being essential)

Either way I can't see these sorts of "punts" being on our hitlist.
    Thank goodness for that..

Still expecting Miles Leaburn to be out the door.
  • City are definitely another good shout. No more part of their money laundering shenanigans.

Ipswich top it for me, they've really taken the piss.

Expecting a dry January anyway, we will have the for once valid excuse of it not being a buyers market, and will probably see next to no movement.

Even if we did have the funds, I don't think there's many people at the club who have an eye for a player.
    That is a major concern.
Elliott used to play to a high standard, what input does he have?

  • My understanding is Campbells loan does not have a recall clause. Most recalls are on younger players that clubs want to keep and eye on to either a. Integrate back into there team in January, B. Capitalise on interest, a greater fee and higher level of football. Clubs who don't have 26yr old midfielders in mind, don't usually tend to change that opinion unless in crisis come January.

Don’t forget MK dons some proper shit from them over the years
Maybe it isn't the clubs just our choice of their players.

    Swindon too
  • I can’t believe he’s only 26! Moves like a 40 year old.
That’s what’s so disappointing about him, he’s not a 30+ year old on the way down but plays like it. He should have built on his good year at Luton but for whatever reason he’s not done that here or at Millwall.
  • I think we need to somehow re-boot our recruitment network.
My experience of recruiting (not footie) was that I tended to use my network....... of people I already knew, whether they were friends, people I'd worked with in the past, recruiters I already knew etc.......... people I loved and trusted. But in all honesty as I got older, as my industry changed, as my network got older with me, because of these things and more, I must have missed even knowing of some great candidates.
So I can't help but think our recruitment team and network needs a re-fresh.
One of my old bosses had a question he'd ask every now and again. "What have you done for me lately?" If we asked that of each of our recruitment leaders, team and network I can't help but think changes are needed.........

There is a break clause in the Campbell loan deal, whether we will utilise it will probably depend on who is the manager.
Most likely Nathan Jones. Lets be honest (unless we loose to Northampton) they would of sacked him by now if he is not our manager in January.

A new manager needs games to assess the squad, build his team (January) and develop his philosophy.

    Fair point
think it would be nice if we actually knew what our recruitment network actually was and how it disseminates down .Do we have scouts that look after the West, the North etc? Or do we just rely on Agents. Do we have an overseas scouting network? Dixon has come to us as a result of the relationship in Jamaica but we don't seem to pick up many players from the continent or South America /South Africa for example.

Looks like we contacts at Ipswich and Luton at the moment

Fair to ask if Scott does think outside the box a bit more. Working in the recruitment business for 40 odd years it has changed beyond all recognition so fair to assume that sourcing footballers would have changed immeasurably .
