Think the more important question is who would we be looking to move out.
Methven,  Scott  ,Rodwell  and the rest of the shysters

I would look to loan Kanu. Can’t see him getting much game time or forcing himself into the starting 11 each week
    Should be starting, when fit.

Al-Hamadi has come off the bench against Man Utd, doubt he's going to be playing mid-table L1 football anytime soon

I honestly don't think we'll have many coming through the door. He'll move on a few and that will be it.
    This

I I can’t see our investors stumping up for another transfer window so unless we sell Leaburn and reinvest it I think we’ll be done

The other site is saying we have asked about taking Ali Al Hamadi on loan I believe and the poster has a good track into this ownership so has got things right before. AAH is also at Ipswich and we can't get through a window without one of theirs.

Wasn't there a midfielder in the summer we were linked with in Europe who we were going to keep tabs first half of this season... Albeit I think he was CDM!!
Al Hamidi just come on as sub v United, pipe dream that one.

Hylton was taken on as player/coach. So keep him as a coach, he can teach the youngsters about 'shithousery', just don't put him in the matchday squad, put Dixon there.
Hylton wil problaby end up as our manager

I know NJ said he didn’t like having young player on loan as he doesn’t like developing other teams players ! Maybe the truth is nobody will give him any promising youngsters as their club want them playing a system resembling football

My wishlist is a keeper, a commanding LCB and a creative midfielder. I think with those pieces the team looks a lot more coherent

He also said that he recommended Ahadme to the SMT as was an upgrade on Alfie May.

GK, definitely. Tough as nails shithouse central defender. LB, who can play as wing back.
    And a creative midfielder.
    2 20 goals a season strikers. All for a budget of 500k

What we need - flair, creativity and pace in midfield and out wide.

What I’m expecting - a bald hard man no nonsense CB and a defensive midfielder who’d two foot his mum and has tattoos. Both are current or former Luton players.
    Tom Lockyer to return?

In reality Methven said at Bromley Addicks and to me at a Junior Reds event separately that with 27 players our squad is too big and needs trimming as players can't get on the training pitch.

So Potts, Hylton and A Campbell to be released (assuming we can in that loan contract) and Assimwe back out on loan would bring us to about 24 players I think and not really weaken us at all.

Then we have one in, one out on others...

So whilst in Jan you obviously won't be able to do all of the below they may look to try 1 or 2 of the below...

    - Gillesphy out, decent LCB in.
    - Edun out, creative midfielder in.
    - AMB out, new keeper in
    - Watson out, decent RB in
    - REG out, commanding CB in

L Jones and Small are out of contract end of season and seems to be no rumours on new ones.  Would be suicide moving Jones on and disappointing to see Small go but they tried it with Dobson/CBT last season so wouldn't put that past them.  I definitely expect Small will go.

A manager that plays football, creative midfielders, decent defenders, and a striker who can score an get rid of all the shit we have, which is most of the squad.

A keeper with a MASSIVE kick, who can boot it into the opponent's final third, so we can bypass both the midfield AND the defence.
  • I want a rush goalie, never see them these days.

He's not everyone (anyone's?) cup of tea but Methven isnt wrong we do have a large squad, as ever its full of shite and without balance, I know its rumours but the main pool of players we've used/ included in match day squads:

    Mannion – AMB

    Edwards – Small – Edun

    Ramsay – Watson – Assimwe

    Mitchell – Z. Mitchell – Jones – REG – Gillesphey – Potts

    Coventry – Taylor – Docherty – Anderson – Berry – Campbell

    T Campbell – Dixon

    Godden – Leaburn – Ahadme – Aneke – Hylton – Kanu

    We've got

    2 Backup keepers

3 LB's with one signed to be first choice now reserved exclusively for the car cup

2 LCB's with one being perma crocked and the other a bit crap

6 midfielder's where only 2 have a worthwhile contribution, the others for the most part run around not doing much of anything

2 "flair" players with one being used as a striker and the other that shouldnt have any expectation put on him but does thanks to our wank squad options.

6 forwards with a mix of attributes spread around walking wounded, a geriatric and inexperience .

If we come out of Jan looking closer to the below I'd be happier and feel safer that we can seal the midtable finish.

    New – Mannion

    Edwards- Small

    Ramsay - Watson

Mitchell- Mitchell – Jones – REG – New

Coventry – Taylor – Docherty - Berry- New – New

    T Campbell – New

    Godden – Leaburn – Ahadme – Aneke - Kanu

5 incoming isn't a massive ask for a Jan window if you ask me.

As for actual names, no idea.

    Great post.

Compare to 30/40 years ago (I know) when you could only use 1 sub and you had matchday squad of 14 we had much better players. Newton,Robinson etc were seen to be "average" but they would put this lot to shame.
  • The trouble is we have, as always, a squad full of average squad players.  The ones we bring in need to be the permanent 11 starters and really improve us.  To bring in 5 of those in January is relatively unheard of I reckon.
  • We won’t be spending, so all we can hope for is a couple of good quality loans. They’ll need to be quite spectacularly good to effect our season though.
Hope you're wrong mate. It's time for some radical changes to the squad, that'll cost!
Won’t be very much if any money available in January. Might free up some money from departing fringe players but it’s a couple of loans at best.

The aversion to quality loans really grates me - yes, you don't own them and yes, you are developing someone else's player, but a good one can drag terrible into good. I know there can be some real variance there, but surely you would want to give that a try if you could get a player like Cullen/Gallagher/JRS etc.

If what you are buying has ended up being at best lower L1 players, then surely it's an avenue we should be exploring. Or maybe we have burned those bridges already...

In my view, and it won’t come to pass, is the ‘outs’ should be:

    Docherty
    Berry
    A Campbell
    Ahadme
    Potts
    Hylton
    Gillesphey

    SOMEONE WHO CAN PLAY FOOTBALL.

  • We need to sign Matt Godden's old strike partner from Coventry. I'm sure Viktor Gyökeres would be interested...
  • Maybe a few brown envelopes stashed with wads of notes to whoever does the recruitment at Peterborough to give us a nod and wink before they make a move.

If we're carrying on this way we need a stronger centre back than Gillesphey even once Lloyd Jones is back. Beyond that I don't know what magical midfielder we're going to find to fix things. If it's the 352 then it's got to be someone who is big, physical, aggressive, fast and primarily creative, and yet somehow still at L1 level. If we're playing the box formation then I'd like to see TC play at the top of the midfield for a bit, failing that it needs to be the same unicorn player again. Like a Scott Fraser who tries, so nothing like Scott Fraser, or a Ricky Holmes who aggressively presses and puts a challenge in, so nothing like Ricky Holmes. If someone could invent this player in the next 6-7 weeks then that would be super.

Look how Stockport are benefiting from Louis Barry, top scorer in league one as well
