Miles Leaburn - Signs New 3 Year Contract (p77)

Agree with Henry and whatever happens (as long as he doesn’t go to any of the nearby riff raff) I’ll keep an eye on his career and wish him well. He’s been great to watch and the family connection has been a real bonus. If we have another 6 months of him scaring defenders like he did on Saturday then I’ll enjoy every minute of it I can0

Weren't Brentford heavily linked last summer? Could see that one being a possibility. Signed a Brazilian striker in the summer from Club Brugge who's already injured and the rest of their forward options aren't the greatest.1
-
As talented as he is, i really don't think he is ready for the Premier league yet.MarcusH26 said:Weren't Brentford heavily linked last summer? Could see that one being a possibility. Although of course that won't stop a side like Brentford moving for him, as they'd then just loan him to the Championship.3 -

Yeah I wouldn't expect him to go straight into a prem squad with a January move type thing , but he's got such an interesting skillset with his height and ability that I think a prem side would take a punt after a loan spell somewhere else (hopefully back with us).
Fee who knows???0 -
Surely when you're out injured is EXACTLY the time you'd sign a new deal? You're not playing, so in no position to impress other clubs, but still get a decent pay rise and security in case you don't recover well from the injury.NabySarr said:
I doubt he’d have signed anything while injured. Whether he’s looking to stay or get a contract elsewhere, his value in what he can ask for will go up if he starts scoring goals nowkillerandflash said:He was out injured for a year. Did we offer him a new deal then, as that was the time to show faith in him and offer him a long contract, not now, when he is healthy and in his last year0 -
he's worth whatever someone will pay for him - we all think he's worth £10m+ but he's in the last year of his contract.
If he's sold in Jan I'd expect 7 figures but certainly nowhere near what we'd hope for
He's a very easy 'punt' for anyone in the Prem0 -
He holds all the cards though, he knows that if a move doesn't materialise in the summer we'll offer him a new deal anywaykillerandflash said:

I think by that point he'd already shown enough for any team to know he has a high ceiling. His performances to date will have shown any scout network worth their salt that he has all the attributes to be a top top playerkillerandflash said:

No, he went to see one of their games and that started the rumor.MarcusH26 said:Weren't Brentford heavily linked last summer? Could see that one being a possibility. I like Leaburn and he was a handful on Saturday, but he wasn't particularly good on Saturday. Understandable given he hasn't played properly for so long, but i do think some people are playing into the narrative of him being back fit rather than taking the game as a one off.1

I think that was rustiness, his movement was great but his shooting and decision making was a little offcafcsinger said:I like Leaburn and he was a handful on Saturday, but he wasn't particularly good on Saturday. He’d be a massive success in Germany if that kind of move interested him at all.6

Would be perfect, pressure off and a good route back into English football. Annoyingly we'd get little comp though which is a painCallumcafc said:He’d be a massive success in Germany if that kind of move interested him at all.0 -

Bundesliga would be a great fit for him stylistically. The rate they're snapping up young English talent I could see that being a very real possibility. Shame the fee would be peanuts.0 -
Has he managed to build up his upper body while off injured? He looks stronger than I remember and was easily overpowering their CB.

Definitely bigger than last year. So are a few of the younger lads.Chunes said:Has he managed to build up his upper body while off injured? He looks stronger than I remember and was easily overpowering their CB.0 -
Certainly looks like he's bulked up a bit. I think that is at least partially down to Jones' style as he was very vocal about wanting us to be more physically competitive last season.Chunes said:Has he managed to build up his upper body while off injured? He should be offered a lucrative contract, with a significant release clause, allowing him to leave Charlton for a big club if he continues to develop, but giving him a platform at Charlton in the mean time.
Most importantly though - and I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet - it's crucial that he has at least one son, preferably soon.17 -
I think he'll repay the clubs investment in him and sign a three and half year deal. He has really good people behind him and will be receiving sound advice.Chizz said:He should be offered a lucrative contract, with a significant release clause, allowing him to leave Charlton for a big club if he continues to develop, but giving him a platform at Charlton in the mean time.

It wouldn't suprise me if he goes on to bang 20 goals this season and gets a big money move in the summer.2 -
I think the family link to the club, with his mother working for the club, means that when Miles does leave, and he will, it is likely to be on good terms. I would expect that to be in the summer unless we go up or he gets injured again.0

I hope you are right but sadly I cannot see any of our strikers scoring 20 goals this seasonPopIcon said:

If previous behaviour is anything to go by, I can see the board looking to cash in on him in January if a new contract is not close to being signed.
Call me mental too, but I think he’s a better all round player than Stansfield, he’s a year younger than him too, and look how much Birmingham paid for him. Leaburn under a decent length contract is worth millions to us and just the same with how our chances of success on the pitch improves with Miles in the team.2 -
I think a big difference is that we will get some from of compensation for him in the summer which we wouldn't have with Dobson or CBT. Plus NJ wouldn't be happy and it would a PR nightmare to sell your 2 most popular strikers within 9 monthsSage said:If previous behaviour is anything to go by, I can see the board looking to cash in on him in January if a new contract is not close to being signed.

I'm not sure Birmingham's nutso spending this summer is going to be reflected with any other normal transfers, it was, imo, a unique situation.Sage said:If previous behaviour is anything to go by, I can see the board looking to cash in on him in January if a new contract is not close to being signed.

Can I ask what previous behaviour?Sage said:If previous behaviour is anything to go by, I can see the board looking to cash in on him in January if a new contract is not close to being signed.

That's a pretty wild take. Stansfield has a handful of PL appearances, almost 50 Championship appearances, and has been capped by England at U18, U20 and U21 level.Sage said:If previous behaviour is anything to go by, I can see the board looking to cash in on him in January if a new contract is not close to being signed.

Leaburn has done none of that yet.11 -
I assume this is a reference to the board actively looking to sell CBT and Dobson when it became clear that neither were going to sign new deals with the club last year.Todds_right_hook said:

I think it is also a distinct possibility, like the sale of Karlan Grant... Compensation would only apply if he stayed in England, so if there's a cash offer in Jan it would be hard to turn down...2 -
Compensation would still apply abroad I think (like Aribo in Scotland), it would just be less. We would then get solidarity payments if he moved on thoughhezzla said:

I had to google this because I was sure that Aribo went for basically nothing, but you are correct.fenaddick said:

Looks like the amount would be somewhere in the region of 300k-400k Euros compensation. So from a purely financial perspective, at what point does it become better to take the money and lose him 4 months early? £750k-£1M? Maybe more if we're actually pushing for promotion?

I don't think it's worth it until you're in multiple millions which won't happen. It's far too hard to sell to the fans otherwisehezzla said:
