I think the most tragic thing is the familiarity with it all. On the way up my mate rang me and said 'you're playing Stevenage today, should be a win for yous right' and I had to explain to him how it's nowhere near as simple as that.
We dwarf them in every aspect, yet the last 3 times I've been there, we haven't looked better on the pitch. Even when we beat them on pens in the carabao, they were the better team that night. No disrespect to Stevenage, as I'm sure they've got some nice fans and decent people associated with the club, but for a club of our size and the alleged money involved, to go there and look like the worse team, is well and truly unacceptable.
I'm looking at the players more than Jones. I've always had the belief that we don't have the right owners and management setup (generally speaking) in place. We obviously don't have much money, hence why we have tried to sell any decent player we have had in May, CBT and Dobson. I am still concerned about the people pulling the strings and what their aim is. Any of us can see that this football is getting us nowhere.
We go 1 down and you can pretty much guarantee we are getting a draw at best, it's abysmal. The only players I truly like the look of are Jones, Mitchell, Ramsay, Coventry and sometimes TC. The rest I'd happily see sold or loaned out. In some cases (Edwards & Dixon) I haven't seen enough to form a proper opinion.
Either way, I want the season over now. It's clear we got the transfer window wrong again, looks like we are gonna need another 2 or 3 (how many times has this been said), all that awaits is now is probably a mid-table ish finish and watching clubs we should dwarf, finish above us as usual.
It's a very depressing cycle. I've not lost hope in Jones just yet, but I am having doubts about my vote of confidence, and I am starting to think him and Luton are just a match made in heaven.
The football we play is no different to the likes of Slade, Adkins, Holden etc. Sideways crap passing, until we run out of options and start lumping it long. Then Chuks comes on and we hope he can pull a rabbit out the hat. Woeful.

Poor team selection for the second week running. I’m still not sure why we changed from the team that was doing well at the start of the season?Berry should be starting every game as he’s our most creative player. Kanu is not a winger but he’s now played there 2 weeks in a row and it’s not worked either time. Gillesphey is not a left back but again has been put there 2 games in a row. Edwards and Potts were both clearly not going to do 90 minutes so why on earth was Small not on the bench. Baffling4

There is a simple thing we can all do. It isn't 100% accurate but gives you a pretty good idea and it applies to all levels of football. It is something we have had a bit of an issue with since before Sandgaard. The thing is goals in the team. What can we do if we have the inclination and time? Go onto Wiki for each established player and look at their goals per game ratio. Two things can distort this, one is a young player still developing who can improve as can an experienced player who has dropped down to a level below his previous career.
Ok, so you do this to us this season, and last season and the season before etc... and we are woefully short. Yes we did have the league's top goal scorer last season but not enough goals around him. This year we haven't got him. There are ways around this. One is to defend boringly and nab the odd goal to win a game. We were doing this to a point but Jones tried to push on and messed about with the defence last week. I understand why, it is to solve the problem of goals. Yesterday, we got caught out on the break trying to score a goal. With the fact we have too many missers in the side maybe we should have continued our ultra cautious approach.
I appreciate what is happening. Jones is understandably trying to push on but we don't have goals in the team to allow us to. Rather than juggle about our front players ad infinitum, he is at a point where he has to try something new. All he has is Leaburn and Dixon from what I can see and maybe Mbick or Casey but it is probably too early for them. So if Leaburn isn't ready to start, Dixon shoud be starting on Tuesday. Will it work, who knows, possibly not, but apart from that what choice is there? One other thing. Luke Berry is a one in four or five player through his career. If you have similar playing alongside him, you have a two in four or five chance. We have to find a place for him in the side. It won't solve everything but can give us three points like it did against Orient. It isn't that he has been brilliant but he is a player who knows where the goal is to a certain extent where a lot of the others don't.
All this supposes you have the right balance and tactics but that is the managers job. But generally with few exceptions, scorers will always be scorers and missers will always be missers. This is the same in Sunday league to the premier league although the level is important as if you put Kanu in at Sunday league level he would score a massive amount. He probably needs to play out on loan as he is a young player who could still come good.3 -

In a brief summary. We are not under performing, this is exactly the level of this squad. As each player came in we were doubtful on their quality to take us up the table. Unfortunately our doubts were correct, I just cannot see a top 6 side from any combination within this squad.
We have built
a side that won’t get relegated. The only question who will be managing them at the end of the season, as we finished 14th.

I believe in 20/21 season he started in midfield with Albie and Clare. He was dropped after a few games and didn’t appear again until Jacko took over.Bedsaddick said:

Jones got the players he wanted, he didn’t want May. Was at the game unfortunately. Team looks lost on what there meant to be doing. Aneke should be taking those chances and Kanu is not the answer. Anderson omg he’s out his depth. Godden off the pace.I can understand the booing but I didn’t but they didn’t get much appreciation either. Hopefully we can turn it around. Having had a bit more time to reflect on the game and read this thread this morning, I understand why some (not many) want NJ gone, across the SM sites.
I agree the football we're playing is turgid and unattractive, with little to no end, our defence is much better this season. However we've lost creativity and hence goals. Midfield is, in the main, sedantry, Coventry the best of the midfield, but very poor dead ball delivery.
However do we really need to go on yet another managerial merry go round? Who would people suggest took the reins, surely not another journeyman?
We need to stick with NJ and see if he can turn it around. We've suffered 3 defeats all season (league) we're not shipping goals as we used to, so that seems better. NJ now needs to work on creativity in m/f, why not give Taylor a go?
Will Miles be used on Tuesday? Kanu isn't the answer, Ahadme is injured, Chuks is a bit part player, Godden isn't getting service.
Is Dixon worth a place on the bench, perhaps to use his supposed pace?

We can’t loan players outside of a transfer window. We can bring in free agents, but even if we did I doubt there’s much out there.shine166 said:

His reluctance to use loans holds us back, it's great on the surface but shows to be bizarre when a free transfer Danny Hilton is a better choice. He was never not joining, he'd been here weeks. The lack of creative options was present long before the window shut.Scoham said:

I am a bit confused here, I thought we played with wing backs yesterday but if so that would have made our formation 3, 4, 3 the wing backs making a midfield four. When I started watching it looked like they set up 4,3,3 which meant one of our full backs played in a midfield three, can anyone confirm what our formation was.

There isn't a right or wrong way to play football.Jones style of football, need to win most weeks, and we are not. So it is woeful.1 -
As stated earlier I am away for a short break and within an hour's drive from Bristol. I couldnt even be arsed to see the score till I got back to our cottage till the evening as the result was inevitable.
Can't be bothered to go Tuesday even though I am quite close and the other half wants to visit Bristol this week.
We have had many ups and downs over the years and in the past I would have made this trip.
Shows how bad we have become. Spoke to a few mates who were there yesterday and basically said it was dross as I have witnessed so far.4 -
We did play 3-4-3. But Ahadme hasn't done it either. It isn't a solution. Leaburn has a bit of pace, a physical threat, great control, can pass and can score goals/ Dixon has pace and looks like he can score goals. The games these players possess are the sort League One defenders will be troubed against. Yesterday was too easy for the Stevenage defenders until Aneke came on. Even if he plays poorly he has attributes defenders don't like. It seems to me they don't like pace so Dixon needs trying now and they don't like most of Leaburn's attributes.LouisMend said:1 -

Jones got the players he wanted, he didn’t want May. We dwarf them in every aspect, yet the last 3 times I've been there, we haven't looked better on the pitch. Even when we beat them on pens in the carabao, they were the better team that night. No disrespect to Stevenage, as I'm sure they've got some nice fans and decent people associated with the club, but for a club of our size and the alleged money involved, to go there and look like the worse team, is well and truly unacceptable.
I'm looking at the players more than Jones. I've always had the belief that we don't have the right owners and management setup (generally speaking) in place. We obviously don't have much money, hence why we have tried to sell any decent player we have had in May, CBT and Dobson. I am still concerned about the people pulling the strings and what their aim is. Any of us can see that this football is getting us nowhere.
We go 1 down and you can pretty much guarantee we are getting a draw at best, it's abysmal. The only players I truly like the look of are Jones, Mitchell, Ramsay, Coventry and sometimes TC. The rest I'd happily see sold or loaned out. In some cases (Edwards & Dixon) I haven't seen enough to form a proper opinion.
Either way, I want the season over now. It's clear we got the transfer window wrong again, looks like we are gonna need another 2 or 3 (how many times has this been said), all that awaits is now is probably a mid-table ish finish and watching clubs we should dwarf, finish above us as usual.
It's a very depressing cycle. I've not lost hope in Jones just yet, but I am having doubts about my vote of confidence, and I am starting to think him and Luton are just a match made in heaven.
The football we play is no different to the likes of Slade, Adkins, Holden etc. Sideways crap passing, until we run out of options and start lumping it long. Then Chuks comes on and we hope he can pull a rabbit out the hat. Woeful.

There isn't a right or wrong way to play football.I think we’ve seen evidence of that this season - we had good results in the first few matches but the performances weren’t amazing (bar maybe Bolton at home). The lack of creativity was cited by many and they’ve been proven right in more recent games.2 -
