No, this is sand8 -
Just fucking play round, footballs gone soft!Chizz said:12 -
Negative away teams will come to AFC Wimbledon and park the mechanical digger16

Can see that taking months to sort out. Will interesting to see where they agree to play home games...1

They should ground share with their mates MK Dons until it gets sorted.golfaddick said:
I saw this on the lunchtime news.Chizz said:
It doesn't look like something that can be rectified quickly. First structural engineers will have to assess the safety & when given the ok the hole will have to be filled in. Then a new pitch relayed.
Will be a good few weeks....maybe even months.

Nearly as bad as the pitches up Bostall Heath used to beChizz said:1 -
Let's hope it's not quicksand. We don't want to hear that Johnnie Jackson's legs have gone.28

It's not a hole, but looks like sand and turf on top has shifted, will need ripping out and relaying, but should be fixable in time, but not soon https://x.com/_The72/status/18381407461524156350

’months’ ??…that ground is surrounded by the new blocks of flats they built at the same time. If the Wandle has got to where the pitch is in the middle then those flats could well be compromised as well. That’s not necessarily something that could be sorted in months I would have thoughtMarcusH26 said:Can see that taking months to sort out. Just announced on Talksport they will be playing the game at St James Park next week1

Good . Hopefully the money will help pay towards fixing the pitch.letthegoodtimesroll said:Just announced on Talksport they will be playing the game at St James Park next week1 -
Problems with the flats won't affect the ground though.letthegoodtimesroll said:

It's the pitch which will be the biggest issue, along with the electrical supplies, and whether the main stand's facilities have been damaged (dressing rooms etc)1 -
If that building works to put the flats and the football ground in have diverted the Wandle (because there wasn’t a problem with the dog track/stock car racing over the years that I can recall) then having a block or blocks of flats with a potential subsidence issue most likely will mean the football ground in the middle will be out of bounds on safety reasons surely.killerandflash said:

They sold their ground to Chelsea several years ago.MrOneLung said:Perhaps they can share with Kingstonian
Wimbledon sold Kingsmeadow to Chelsea and kingstonian FC got squeezed out with £1m compensation from AFCW.

Kingstonian now share Prince George's Fields with Corinthian Casuals.
Short version;
From Chelsea women's site onherside.co.uk:
"AFC Wimbledon started sharing the ground with them when they were formed in 2002 and took ownership of the ground a year later. Chelsea purchased the ground in 2016/17 with the women’s side playing there since 2017 (Kingstonian moved out at this point) and youth sides joining them in 2020 after AFC Wimbledon moved to their new stadium."1 -
The EFL: Cup game will now be next week at Newcastle.0

I'm no fan of Wimbledon. But didn't they buy the ground off Kingstonian when they were in a bit of financial difficulty? Then when Wimbledon sold the ground they gave Kingstonian £1million of the proceeds, which they weren't legally obliged to do. They didn't have to give them anything.MrOneLung said:
Hardly sounds like a "steal" in that context.9 -
Decent boost for Wimbledon towards the pitch repair work.letthegoodtimesroll said:Just announced on Talksport they will be playing the game at St James Park next week
50k crowd paying (say a reduced ticket price 20 quid) is a million, so they'll get half of that.3 -
Couldn't they get there next couple of home games reversed, to give themselves a bit of breathing space to get alternative arrangements set up?
I'm no fan of AFC but feel for them and their staff.0 -
Or Charlton…we seem to be looking for tenants if that rugby team story is true, it’s an easy trek from SW19 and surrounds to SE7, there’s plenty that do it for every Charlton home game and Jackson knows the way.Lincsaddick said:
