Australia used 8 bowlers and apart from Carey, the keeper, only Marsh and Smith have still to bowl with 3 of the 5 wickets coming from non-frontline bowlers.Addick Addict said:

Which means that the side is at least one bowler short and that person has to be an all rounder because we can't have a tail that starts at 7. Equally, Bethell is very much a part time bowler (29 career wickets in 85 matches) meaning that we would still have just the 5 frontline bowlers with the addition of that one all rounder (imagine if Archer or Wood were to break down especially in an ODI) and I'm not sure that Brydon Carse is the man to do that specific job either.
Having Moeen Ali and/or an in form Sam Curran very much balanced our side though I think the latter might have become the analysts' victim meaning that his bowling has now been somewhat predictable. Our side is in a transitional state but it is something that should have happened in the year preceding the WC. Unfortunately, there were so few games in the calendar that we didn't have the matches that would afford us the opportunity to do so.
The Australian side that played us the other day had four seamers (Abbott, Hardie, Green and Stoinis), three spinners (Zampa, Connolly and Short) plus two other part time bowlers in the shape of David and Head). With all their players available, their side will look ridiculously strong and balanced too. Something like Head, Short (M), Marsh, Inglis, Maxwell, Stoinis, Green, Hardie, Cummins, Zampa, Hazlewood. That side leaves out the likes of Fraser-McGurk, Smith, Labuschagne, Johnson, Abbott, Ellis, Agar (Ashton), Connolly, Bartlett, Carey and Starc to name another 11. I'm not sure we have anywhere near that proven depth on the world stage.0 -

The pitch didn't offer much to the seamers to be fair. Their spinners bowled better than ours did but, equally, their batsmen didn't surrender to them in the way that ours did. Unfortunate comments from 'captain' Brook after the game. Punters don't pay high admission prices or pay tv subs to see England get hammered and then to be told by the grinning skipper that he and his lads basically don't give a hoot about their (to put it politely) terrible performance.
I thought at the outset that Brook as captain was the wrong choice, BUT who else in the current squad would be an alternative, Duckett, Smith ? .. Hmmmm0 -

If the players just want to have a bit of fun then you can't expect the public to spend big money on tickets to watch this. And you can't suddenly then switch to "big game mode" when it's a World Cup or Ashes.3 -

I know lots of people will feel differently which is fair enough, but I really dislike the arrogance of this England team.Fair enough the brand of cricket is exciting to watch but I actually find the team really hard to get behind because a lot of them just don’t seem that bothered. I know some fans will quite like the more laid back approach and each to their own, but there’s only so many times players can allude to not really caring about getting out or losing a match before fans start to not really bother either.Nobody is expecting Harry Brook to come out and flog himself after the first result but the whole ‘I’m not fussed’ etc gives off really poor vibes. Whether he meant it as it has been portrayed can of course be open to debate but it wouldn’t be the first time one of the England camp has come out with some questionable pre or post match comments recently.6

I agree. I looked at the card after it had all finished & our batting line up was like it had just been thrown together. No recognised "anchor" and it seems the tactic is just to throw the bat at any each & every delivery. In the only good one day side we’ve ever had , we had genuine international quality players in almost every position . Even missing Root and Buttler (plus Stokes and Wood in an ideal world), it looks short to me with both bat and ballgolfaddick said:

No replacement called up. Hull always seemed a random punt. Yes he shows promise, but you do need overs in your legs to get the endurance necessary to bowl long spells in Test cricket.0 -
