It's a bit foolhardy to not think about the future.
If we do get promoted we are going to struggle getting rid of a lot of players we have just signed on contracts because our midfield and forwards are not championship standard
Couldn’t make it up.
Enjoy the fact that we are finding ways to win games of football and stop worrying about it. Jones knows what he’s doing.
Nice to see Golfie has blown away the pre-season cobwebs and is now getting up to full speed. I rate that an 8/10. Much better.
And I'll add another gem people are now adding into the "saviour" mode.
Dixon.
Jesus......the lad has never played English football, let alone in the EFL. But some on here are salivating with the..."don't worry, we have Leaburn & Dixon to come into this team".

Dixon feels like the wild card signing.
Doesn't fit like a glove into 3-5-2 but if we need a plan B and when a slow full back needs exposing we need to be flexible and tweek our formation as on days when both wing backs are struggling we need the attacking wide player like Dixon or push Campbell wider as I still like to see forwards go past defenders in slightly wider positions.
Will Kahiem Dixon be involved any time soon 🤔
Probably, not this side of the new year.

Or maybe the Jamaican FA aren't aware and we should start a campaign like the one that got Ben Brereton Diaz called up for Chile...0 -

yes beautiful football & wins would be perfect, but if playing like we are currently and winning gets us out of this league I will take that all day long,
you don’t worry about the league above while you’re trying to get out of the league your in!5 -
Dixon is a Pritchard type signing. Out of left field, not very costly and not necessarily required to have a good season but a very welcome addition if he's at the right level. Pritch was much better than anyone thought he would be given our more recent Pardew non-league signings. He only played 20 L1 games in 11/12, 10 of them starts, as we eased him into league football but he made 42 appearances the next season in the Championship and for all the grief he used to get on here got 12 assists, which was the third most of anyone in the league. I don't expect to see Dixon properly for a long time but even if we barely see him this season I think regardless of which league we're in next season he'll get the chance to make an impact.

No one has seen him play in England so why bet he won't make it? Why set any expectations at all, just give the kid some time and space.
He might make it, he may not, why not just enjoy watching him when he does play and maybe reserve judgement untils he's played 20 or 30 games for us.
There seems to be a very negative and binary mindset among many on here right now.
For example, players are deemed either no good or so good they will be sold in January.
We either win or we're shit and even if we win, that's not good enough if we haven't scored half a dozen worldie goals.
And being 2nd is a negative because we might get promoted and our team won't be good enough for the Championship.
It's like worrying you might win big on the lottery because you may get begging letters.

It was a scrappy, dog of a game but did we really expect anything else from a trip of to Shrewsbury.
In addition to the excellent three points and another clean sheet, there were some positives from the game:- we defended very well, with Jones and Mitchell dominant aerially and Mannion looking very comfortable and commanding on crosses. One reservation I have is Gillesphey’s lack of pace, albeit he’s been fine in most of the games.- Campbell’s pace and ability to go past people was a constant worry for Shrewsbury. I do wonder if, at some stage, Nathan might vary the formation, go with three up top and deploy Tyreece on the wing.- Gassan getting off the mark will hopefully give him a much-needed confidence boost. We also actually managed to score from a corner.
- all three substitutes contributed after their introduction - as, indeed, the substitutes have done in most games this season.
On the negative side, apart from the goal and an excellent strike from Coventry that whistled just past the post, we failed to create any meaningful chances and barely threatened Shrewsbury's goal. The lack of creativity and combination play is a concern. The problem with repeatedly going long is that the strikers can become isolated and it is difficult to for the midfielders to get up quickly enough in support, including to pick up the second balls. If we're going to mount a serious challenge, we need to significantly improve and find a way to control games, as not all our opponents are going to be as toothless as Shrewsbury.
Still, a great start results-wise and the returns of Leaburn and Edwards will also make us significantly stronger. It will also - most unusually for us - leave us with a fully fit squad.6 -

It’s interesting that Jones said he’s asked Ahadme to play in a way he’s not used to. Despite being older Ahadme has only played about 10 more Football League games than Tyreece Campbell so he’s not the most experienced player and he’s having to adapt his game as he goes. It’s clear from what he says as well that he’s not used to playing such a direct game so it’s no wonder he’s had some troubles at the start. He’s looked a bit better every game and he looks like he has the attributes to succeed so hopefully that first goal will give him a bit of breathing space and the chance to get to the level he needs to be.8

Just home from the Spurs Arsenal game and watching it made me appreciate our win yesterday. A set piece goal and a 1-0 away win? It wasn’t pretty but a win is a win and that’s all that matters if you want to be successful, irrespective of the league you are in.8

NJ is saying that he’s aware we need to improve, we’re 6 games in and it seems people have made up there minds how this team will be for the rest of the season.
I'm looking forward to see how things change and I think NJ has a plan and has a clear idea of what he wants to achieve with this team and it’s not finished yet, enjoy the ride!9 -

Too be fair to Golfie, we’ve all been worn down, and dragged down with negativity following this club, as we have literally been mismanaged and abused as a club for years.
The fact we are, as been pointed out 7 points better off than last season, is not to be forgotten or sniffed at.
I actually thought, before the season started, that we had a tough start in store at the beginning of the season, so far, so good!
Tougher tests like Birmingham and Wrexham lie ahead, (The month of October is another massive test) but we just need to focus on one match at a time.
The season we were last in the championship, and ended up getting relegated, we had a tremendous start, I think we were in the top 6 after 6 games, but all went wonky when going into November, we had 15, yes 15 players injured at the same time, so much so, we ended up bringing in at the time a 16 year old lad into our midfield from our academy who is now playing non league football.
I know this is Charlton, and we’re all looking over our shoulders, always waiting for something to go wrong at any given time, but please can we as fans, not just relax a bit, and enjoy the fact we are not on a downward trajectory at present.11 -

Can I just say winning 1-0 and being defensively solid is not nicking a win, it's a game plan that is working.19

Where Charlton Athletic lead, others follow ?
Mikel Arteta, who lost both Rice and Ødegaard to a red card and Injury before the North London derby came out with the Charlton fan's mantra.
"We won Ugly" 😃
