I'm delighted we scored a Shrewsbury-style goal away at Shrewsbury.8

Do they intentionally leave out penalty shouts? I know that Shrewsbury had two and wanted to see replays of them, but guess they only throw in the shots and leave it at that.1 -
The thing with those penalty shouts was that none of them were pens. A decent ref will see that. But in League One not all refs are decent!3

We know Jones can cut it at the league above, and these players have another 40 games to show their worth and improve. We would attract better players in the league above anyway.
The aim would be, promotion, and staying up. That should be Charltons ambition short term, and we definitely have the right manager to achieve that. Hopefully some of these players are also fit for those tasks.19 -

If we do get promoted we are going to struggle getting rid of a lot of players we have just signed on contracts because our midfield and forwards are not championship standard

Think everyone forgets football is different in the Championship. The question isn’t if we’ll need better players, it’s if we have players who can adapt.2

Derek Smalls ...... Derek Smalls ...... can you hear me Derek Smalls?
Your boys took one hell of a beating!

That is not to acknowledge the contribution of all the players so far, but with Leaburn and Edwards on the horizon significant improvement is still possible.
The progression from this time last year is clear: 12 months ago, soft touches who can still be rolled over even when we go ahead; then, nailed on 1-1 specialists, now the 1-1s are turning into 1-0s quite a bit.
The 2011-12 champs had some trouncing wins, but there were a good few 1-0s and also 2-0s where we nicked a late second on the break. It wasn't always pretty then either, and on our off days (Stevenage, Hudds away) we could still fail to come up with a response to going behind. We're still a work in progress, but progress is at least evident0 - Sponsored links:

I liked their little ground. Good away end and decent food and beer, especially enjoyed the Fan Zone pre match. The match was nothing special but great to see the players celebrating with the fans who had a perfect view of the goal0

What I like is that we don't seem to be heavily reliant on 2 or 3 players to pull us out of the shit with absolute dross all around them - think it's going to be the most open POTY we have had in forever.4

As I expected, a hard fought win .. great that Gassan Ahadme has broken his L1 duck and that Will Mannion is developing into a reliable and (VERY importantly) a rather lucky keeper. Long may this last. Conor Coventry is the new Josh Cullen, i m o all is looking good .. I opined on another post that we would get auto promotion this season, no reason at all to change my mind so far1

Couldn’t make it up.
Enjoy the fact that we are finding ways to win games of football and stop worrying about it. Jones knows what he’s doing.

Nice to see Golfie has blown away the pre-season cobwebs and is now getting up to full speed. I rate that an 8/10. Much better.1 -

If we go up I doubt we’d grind out results like this the entire way without a number of convincing wins by 2/3+ goals.2 -

And undoubtedly, Edwards will be welcomed back into the matchday squad once he has the medics' go ahaed.
Yesterday, my MOM would probably be Coventry as others have stated.
However, a Lifer posted last night that he/she was a tad disappointed with the recent contributions of Berry & Docherty and I have to agree with this.
For me, it's a kind of chicken & egg situation.
Is Conor so prominent in the midfield because he's "covering" for his 2 colleagues , maybe in the way Dobbo 's workrate was so admired last season ?
Or is Conor's workrate overshadowing their contributions ?
Either way, I'm unsure whether the current midfielders are a strong enough unit to fully complement our impressive defence.
Do others feel that maybe the 3 aforementioned players might benefit from the addition of A N Other midfielder so that area of the pitch is freshened up from time to time. ie use our resources more creatively ?
Or do we already have those additional midfielders awaiting their opportunities when fully fit eg Alan Campbell & Potts?

I don't get this some people saying it's ugly football and even some saying it's boring. How many times over recent years have come away from games thinking we were beaten by a strong ugly team. It's nice to be one for a change. Good teams find a way to win and that's what we're doing at the moment. Keep winning 1-0 and I'm happy17
-
When I am watching other teams I am more bothered about ugly and boring. When it comes to my team, it comes down to winning or losing football. That's all there is.8

And I'll add another gem people are now adding into the "saviour" mode.
Dixon.
Jesus......the lad has never played English football, let alone in the EFL. But some on here are salivating with the..."don't worry, we have Leaburn & Dixon to come into this team".
