3 points are always welcome, but there's no getting away from the fact we're a difficult watch. I only caught bits of the first half, as I was stuck in an oline driving course for work, but watched the second half from my home in the Netherlands
and found myself struggling to stay awake for the last 20 minutes. We just seem like a functioning L1 team that happens to scrape wins together.
Although I have nothing against TC, I'm still unconvinced with him as a striker and amazed that he is preferred to Kanu.4 -
Couldn't care less if we're shit to watch as long as it gets us out of this league. This is season 5 in this league.
Hoping Leaburn and possibly Dixon can give us another spark up top when they are ready16 -
We’ve turned into an ugly team, but it’s an ugly league so who cares!13
-
I see Reading’s goalkeeper who made some top saves against us injured his ankle in the week.Reading’s replacement keeper let one through his hands to give Orient all three points. 🤷♂️2

PWR
Happy with the result although we were poor on the ball for most of the game. Nevertheless we have 13 points noe from 6 games where last season we would probably have had 5.
I am convinced that we will get better going forward because Jones demands higher standards. Also we will soon have Leaburn and Edwards back and also Campbell of course. I am very positive about the future.3 -

Happy Birthday Blackheath 🥳blackheathcanuck said:Will always take a birthday win. Ugly or not.
Same here and it really made my day extra special to have 3 points from Charlton and be sitting 2nd in the league.2 -

The problem with last season and indeed previous seasons was scoring two goals, sometimes even three goals wasn't enough more times than not. This season, one will be enough more times than not. Even if you don't earn a goal, a lot of teams at this level will gift you goals as we did a lot last season.4

A win yes and another clean sheet is fantastic
even when you win Ugly it’s still 3 points.
but we do not score many goals in fact the lowest amount in the top ten teams.
we have a good defence but our strike rate is still poor for a top 3 team.
we also ride our luck in the final 15 minutes.
early Days, but we need a strike force 👍👍1 -
From that, Berry should have scored first half, great effort from Coventry, Ahadme’s goal, well they all count, Mannion made a couple of good saves. All I’ve seen. We may be ugly to watch but I’d take that all season if it gets us out of this league.clive said:1 -
Berry from looking bright as a button early on seems to have gone off the boil .
That miss (may have been given offside ) was horrific, Lino was behind him , think Terry tried to excuse him saying he knew he was offside , Brownie was having none of it3 -
One per person who feels that way, presumably. We don’t all get together and agree what to post, unless I’m missing something. Weird how after all this time there are still people who don’t understand how football forums work.Wheresmeticket said:
To mention it. How many "mentions" does it take? But fill your boots, if that's what floats your boat.Uboat said:
We also didn’t play very well, not for the first time this season. It’s okay to mention that on a post-match thread. I’m very happy that we’re second.Wheresmeticket said:We're 2nd ffs.1 -
So want to be positive but it's hard not to argue with this. We've played only one team currently in the top half of the table(not including Brum) and lost to them.Stig said:Apropos of nothing: We've played six teams, three of them are in the relegation zone.
The real tests for our boys start in October. Hope we're ready!4 -
This early in the season one loss can shoot you down the table, they’re usually lower than us because we’ve beaten themcarly burn said:

7am start, back in Canterbury just after 11, rail connections were spot on and although we didn't see much of it, Shrewsbury is a lovely place. On to the football, for me Charlton played for the first 15mins of each half, it's not that we seemed content to let the opposition have the ball, it's that our passing and support play for the forwards is not good enough. We lose the ball and the team get back in shape very quickly, with the wing backs making a back five and that for me is where we are lacking, in the two 15 mins of dominance our wing backs were getting forward, Thierry Small looking far happier when allowed to have that freedom, can't fault Ramsay or Small defensively and I think it's being coached into them to regain shape when we don't have the ball. It wasn't a great performance but it was enough. Ahadme and Campbell/Godden are being asked to feed on scraps and criticism of any of those forwards is harsh, in fact Ahadme played well yesterday and deserved his goal. Blackpool next week and I like to believe that it will be a more open game than the Rotherham fixture but the well drilled machine that Jones has created needs to be a bit more expansive in my opinion.8

The highest placed team Wrexham have played is 10th.carly burn said:

Huddersfield have played no-one higher than 9th.
Stockport have only played one team above 14th.
Birmingham have played no-one above 10th.
It's not just us!

Jones here on the league table and also a reference to the need to improve going forward and not only rely on clean sheets6 -
13 points from 6 is a great return, no if's no but's.
BUT ! after 6 games we are 1 goal a game scored.
.5 goals conceded.
All our contenders in the top six are 2 goals a game scored (Stockport 9 from 5) and have a game in hand or Alfie May's XI, 2 in hand.
Plus Stockport and Wrexham have conceded only 2 and Huddersfield have 3 goals against.
Despite the cafc ugly wins so far (other than Bolton)
Over 46 games our attacking play has to improve as well as the amount of chances created and the conversion rate scored.
Nathan Jones knows this and surely every Charlton fan should be aware that despite playing as a team now with a plan we can't afford to average a goal a game scored and be in the shake up as deflections, mistakes and worldy's against means that .5 will go up a tad so we need a cutting edge when in transition.
Leaburn, Dixon, added to Ahadme, Godden, Kanu, Aneke, Campbell need to have a better service and be clinical as most games 4 of them will get on the pitch.
I hope we continue to evolve or otherwise we will revert to a team that draws too many games.
Great start so far but we can and must strive to improve to be a top 2 or guaranteed top 6.

Do they intentionally leave out penalty shouts? I know that Shrewsbury had two and wanted to see replays of them, but guess they only throw in the shots and leave it at that.

Do whatever it takes to get out of this league, will take this type of performance & result every week.3
-
Obviously you can only beat what’s infront of you, but the fixture list has been very kind to us so far. Tougher tests to come but it’s a case of so far so good,2
-
They actually had 3 shouts for a penalty. None of them were and the ref did well to stand firm and not give them. But on another day one of them would have been given.SELR_addicks said:clive said:

Got in late yesterday from a long flight - delighted when I turned the aircraft mode off on my phone.Reading these comments I don’t care if we’re playing Guardiola type football. Each game is a step closer to getting out of this league.3

Might be in the extended highlights on the OS and on the club app?SELR_addicks said:clive said:

I was sure the ref was going to eventually give them one, whether it was justified or not - that’s how low my opinion of referees in this division has sunk. Fair play to yesterday’s ref for not falling for it.Fortune 82nd Minute said:

It is tempting fate big time, but in terms of being more of a threat up top I was mightily encouraged at the Valley on Friday watching Miles Leaburn on his comeback journey. If you look at the very short U21 highlights of the Leeds United game you get an idea.
That is not to acknowledge the contribution of all the players so far, but with Leaburn and Edwards on the horizon significant improvement is still possible.6
