Ireland England game/ CAFC in Dublin

  • I seem to remember Carsley didn’t sing the Irish anthem either when he played.
Give the geezer a break ffs.
  • I see our gutter press are already gunning for Carsley then. Depressingly predictable.

I couldn't care less if sings ours, theirs or dances a jig with a shamrock up his Aris' if he manages the team properly, but it's important to some I suppose.
It’s designed to upset a few, the same ones that got angry with the change of the St. George’s cross on the Nike England shirt.

If it was a foreign coach butchering it in broken English, the papers would try and trigger the same ones saying they were disrespecting it by mumbling through it.
  • I don't know if this is a thread for the game itself but here goes.

I don't usually watch England friendlies but I'm looking forward to this 1.

I actually think Carsley is a good fit for the job & hope he does well. The under 21s played some brilliant attacking football to win the tournament last year & if that can be transferred to the senior team, we'll be entertaining to watch.

    Good luck to him

    It’s not a friendly.
    I’m dreading it.
Please don’t lose, I’ll never hear the end of it from all the Man Yoo/Bin dipping locals 🙄

The nations league is a glorified friendly competition in my opinion.

However, any game against any of the home nations is not really a friendly I guess

    ROI isn't a home nation.

    Hope we spank the wankers.

At the same time, this summer dented my affection for the England national team, so I’m struggling to get excited for it, especially when Charlton are playing today

Do the Telegraph and Mail think all the England players & coach with Irish passports are a disgrace as well and shouldn’t be picked?  They’d hardly have a team left 🤷🏻‍♂️😉

If we can’t beat the England D team, something is very wrong.

    Pay attention Patrick Casey.
  • Win should be a given.

Hoping to see a bit more positive play rather than the stuff we've been forced to sit through the last however many years.

You should definitely beat us. We spent way too long on the “Stephen Kenny” experiment and have fallen way behind. In fact, I’m not sure how we’re in the same league for this group of games, but I’m not sure how UEFA put any of their competitons together any more.

None of the players will be signing the English anthem either.
  • Just been informed that Lee’s grandmother was from Dunmanway. That’s literally 30 minutes away from me. So he’s a West Cork boi.
Dumnanway has a few sporting heroes.
The GAA trophy they play for is named after Sam Maguire and he came from there too.
It’s a small rural town, so there must be something in the water 😜

    Have visited Sam’s birthplace.

Have to say Carsley handled the question about Mason Greenwood very well.

Glad that our national team has standards and morals. Would be far more upset over a Mason Greenwood call up than I will be by this anthem singingnon-story.

My mum is from Cloyne, but I was born in Leicester. Can't say I feel like an East Cork boi.

"I was never going to celebrate. My nan and grandad are not here anymore and I think it would have been disrespectful to them."

Declan Rice tells @zmansour75 why he didn't celebrate his goal against the Republic of Ireland.
