Sean Clare - July 2024 signed for Leyton Orient (p33)

A great win for Wigan over Derby today. It looks like Sean played RB in a 41
-
Bet he's well pleased at joining a third team in a row and played out of position. Maybe he needs to accept that coaches see him as a full back now and hone his craft there as much as he can1
-
To be fair he didn't make a comment (or stink) about the RB/CM situation over his time here did he? In fact on joining Wigan, he says...
“I can play a variety of positions, and I feel like I can bring a lot in different positions for different reasons. I’m an exciting player who will give his all at every opportunity."
Fans just being diggy for no real reason.

Good for him, he'll join up again with Pratley who amazingly is still going, managing 37 games last year, top pro who'll be 40 before the season ends and should pass 700 career games.19

I’m surprised he got a three year deal, but good luck to him. He wouldn’t last five minutes in Nathan side because he’s not disciplined enough.2

Surprised he's gone one year into a three year deal at Wigan. I'm never sure if they're destitute again or not but it looks like Clare fell out of favour a bit towards the end of the season so maybe a good move all round0

I think NJ would love his effort and work rate and could coach the positional discipline, easier to do when NJ has a fairly fixed system of play, unlike some of the pervious managers.
Under rated IMHO by many Charlton fans and has proved that as he continued to play in league 1 when it was said league 2 or national league was his level.
Not saying we should sign him back.32 -

I thought at times, Pratley and Clare were the ones that were trying to make something happen4

The defence two seasons ago with Clare in it was much better than last seasons although that is a low bar. I think Clare was decent for us, Wigan fans rate him and it's a good signing for Orient.5

I agree with Swisdom, I think Jones would hate him. With Jones it's not just about being physical and a hard worker, it's about exacting positional discipline. No-one would have accused Alfie May of not being a hard worker but he didn't fit tactically and Jones would get very frustrated with him not following the tactical plan the way he wanted. Clare lacks the pace to be a wing back in a Jones team and lacks the positional capability to be a midfielder full stop. He wasn't strong or positionally disciplined enough as a centre back and so many of our goals were conceded in the space between the right back and the right centre back. The most frustrating thing for me about Clare is that he never really improved, we just had to move him around into different positions until we found the one where his lack of positional discipline and concentration was less of a concern, and that's been an issue with Clare his whole career; he always ends up being a right back because he's not actually capable of playing anywhere else effectively and he's never been able to fix the parts of his game that make that the case. He's one of the less coachable players we've had. I reckon Jones would have given him a look last season if he'd been there and then moved him on at the first opportunity.10

Was one of his biggest critics but never called him a League 2 or Non League player.
He’s an ok League One player, nothing more nothing less. He wasn’t worth the minutes or wages he was getting but would’ve been fine as a squad player because he can, in theory, cover many positions. Not good enough for a team who want to get promoted though.10 -
If he was that good he would be signing for a bigger club. He's working his way down the pyramid.0

I still couldn’t tell you his best position, he left weds for hearts wanting to play a more settled role on the wing and played every position on the pitch and did the same at the valley0

At least he won't do this again at the Valley ... will he?

When you look at the players we have had playing for us over recent seasons he was far, far from the worst of them and although he may have been lacking in quality he was certainly a trier and never hid. I hate how we have to diss everyone who played for us because they weren’t very good. We are an average League One side, none of our players are very good.13

I rather liked him and was quite surprised to see us ship him out.🫤3

I was never a fan of Sean Clare. Maybe it was because he was being played out of position but I was never really impressed with him. That was a wonder goal though.1

plus our manager at the time was one of the worst we had employed for football.0
