Mason Hunter signs first professional contract

U18s centre-back Mason Hunter has signed his first professional deal with the club.

Hunter has regularly captained Jason Pearce's team during a successful season that saw the young Addicks claim a fourth consecutive Professional Development League 2 - South title.

The 18-year-old was also the recipient of the 2023/24 Pierre Bolangi Award, given to an U18s player who has emulated Pierre’s resilience, leadership, optimism and compassion.

    Mason was released by us at the end of his contract this year, just signed for Havant & Waterlooville (7th Tier). Think he had a number of offers but wanted to make sure he got game time. Good luck Mason!

    Very dissapointed by his release, thought he was a good prospect. Hopefully goes on to have a good career.

    We’ve got Gough, Laqeretabua, Ewens-Findlay and Elliott as young right footed CBs, we’re not short of good prospects in his position.

    Saw him a number of times and he never stood out.  Don’t know if that’s a good or bad attribute these days 🤷‍♂️

Every project becomes easier to complete. The 18-year-old was also the recipient of the 2023/24 Pierre Bolangi Award, given to an U18s player who has emulated Pierre’s resilience, leadership, optimism and compassion.

    It's always disappointing when one of the academy lads moves on, but sometimes it's the right decision for both sides. At his age, regular senior football is worth far more than another season sitting on the bench or playing occasional U21 games. If Havant & Waterlooville can give him consistent minutes, he'll develop much faster than he would without competitive matches every week. Plenty of players have rebuilt their careers after leaving a Premier League or EFL academy, so this certainly doesn't mean the end of the road. I hope he has a strong season and proves he can work his way back up the pyramid.
