Any truth in the rumour a retain list was written on the back of a fag packet?

Not so keen on Raggett myself. He started the season as Portsmouth’s 3rd/4th and only played as many games as he did because of injuries.

Would be great to build out depth if that’s what we needed but we already have REG, Gillesphey, Jones and Ness for that. We need to set our sights on someone who could be one of the best in the league, not just another body.
  • Raggett has always looked quite poor to me prior to this season so not convinced, certainly not in a back 4 anyway.

Perhaps in a back three with some quicker players beside him he'd be ok.

Raggett is a pretty poor player. Pompey got promoted out of the least competitive League One I can recall, we don't want to be signing their dregs just because they got themselves up.

Raggett got most of his appearances due to injuries this season.
He wasn’t first choice from memory.
Not sure he’d be an upgrade.

I do think it's worth giving Dillion Phillips a trial this summer. Before anyone says the inevitable "What is this obsession with signing ex Charlton blah blah"  he is a good Keeper at this level and can argue Championship. Rough last couple of years but I think he is worth at least a look. Was also in the U21s with Nathan back in 2012 I think, but I think Pope was first choice.

The return of Jack Payne could be like a new signing.

    Another very bad one.
Am i the only one who liked Payne, obviously not good enough but he did at least look interested when he played ?
I would look keen as mustard out there. Wouldn't make me any less shit though

I don't think he was technically that bad, just way too short. 6 g 6a this season, 7 of each for us in 50

Infact over his career averages between 7-8 goals and 7 -8 assists every season.

His biggest issue is his size not allowing him to nick the ball off other players or shielding it effectively. Oh and throwing his arms up every two minutes.

Not questioning the fact. Just wondering who’s coming available on frees?

I would imagine Jones will look at Kanu and Anderson in pre-season and decide from there whether a loan is appropriate or if they are ready for the first team squad. That is our first team squad for next season, not this of course.

Phillips will still be under contract at Rotherham and made his league debut last Saturday. Evans wants to assess him as a potential number one as it is anticipated that they will sell Johansson this window.

You've made me feel all guilty now.

Sorry Jack. You were not the worst by a long chalk.

Agreed. The last thing we need is another squad depth centre back, we need to sign a first choice one to lead the back line.

Charlton Athletic have submitted an offer for their former academy player Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu from fellow relegated League 1 side Fleetwood Town.

The midfielder is keen on a move back to the capital with personal terms not set to cause and issue.

He still started 30 games in a back 4 for the team that came top of the league and had the third best defensive record. Wouldn't be terrible.

Not sure how reliable this particular site is but BSW left Charlton due to some very poor treatment by persons no longer with the club.

For that reason, I'd think NJ would have a big job to convince him to come back, assuming there is any truth in the rumour.

But a good player who'd improve our squad IMHO

I wouldn't have thought that poor treatment by someone no longer at the Club would affect whether he returned or not.

Like any player, if the money is right his history with the club wouldn't come into it.

Would he be good enough to be a regular starter for a promotion winning team? Those are the signings we need to prioritise.

It’s come from TransferCentre9 on Twitter so not reliable at all.

I would like us to be in for him but I’ll wait for a reliable source rather than that Twitter account.

He really wasnt that bad, not good enough for where we want to be but no worse than Macgrandles and Fraser (especially second season) have been.

This to be honest, also he was at best a squad player was he any worse than are current squad players in midfield ? none of this is an argument that i want him back though just he really wasnt as bad as some would have you believe.

MKD are in the L2 playoffs, but I imagine they'll sign Payne on a permanent, especially if they don't go up.
Last seen running around the concrete cows like a headless chicken.

It's a funny thing with McGrandles ...... regarded by many as dogsh*t here, blighted by freak injuries and never really getting the chance to prove himself.

He was last season loaned to Cambridge and they became a consistantly much improved side during the 2nd half of the season.
Their then manager was full of praise about the difference he made.

Much the same thing happened when he was loaned to Lincoln in January.

Lincoln transformed from a mediocre 12th, 13 points behind the 6th place - with a long unbeaten run into 6th place, only failing to qualify for the playoffs as they succumbed to 2 late goals by already Champions Portsmouth.

Charlton signed McGrandles because he was the engine room of a Lincoln side that finished 3rd.
Of course, McGrandles is dogsh*t. But only at Charlton.
