I think this is the biggest game in the clubs recent history. Lose tonight, we lose our following 3 and we are down.6

I really hope Jones is thinking along the same lines as so many of us fans and employs a back 4 with the diamond. It has served us really well in the past, and is a formation he's had success with many times.
The abundance of central midfielders means we have options from the bench to keep things fresh in game and also in terms of rotation week to week, it also makes sense up top rotation wise especially with the imminent return of Chuks and Kanu growing into his role.
3-5-2 is a disaster of a formation without excellent wingbacks. Stop that experiment immediately.1 -
Massive game, somehow gotta grind out a win and I think we will
would like to see both WB’s dropped but looks from the U21’s that sadly Edun will play. Start Kanu and Dobbo and have Ladapo and Chuks ready and waiting
first things first though, win the toss and kick the right way 2nd half. It irrationally irritates me when we don’t
2-1 win1 -
As much as everybody in the home ends wants to ramp up the atmosphere it becomes a bit difficult when the players seem to go out of their way sometimes to kill it off with lazy passing to where there isn’t a team mate, not passing, waiting until the crowd shuts up before taking a corner or free kick etc…charlton_hero said:
We have a big part to play, we need to make the atmosphere difficult for opposing players imo. The Valley needs to become a fortress again.Greenhithe said:One thing these players need is support. Positivity. Cheers. Songs. Etc etc.
I am fed up of people booing and moaning the minute something shit happens.
i know we’re shit and it don’t look good but they need every bit of help we can give them I say.1 -
Can we play this much-talked-about diamond if Lincoln set up with their anticipated 3-5-2 ? E.g. Wouldn't we be exposed on crosses more than normal and runners from midfield when out of possession?FirenzeAddick said:I really hope Jones is thinking along the same lines as so many of us fans and employs a back 4 with the diamond. Given our precarious position. Tonight’s match might be the most important game we’ve played since the playoff final. Lose tonight and I can’t see us getting out of trouble. A draws not enough either. We have to win. Worryingly I can’t see it.3

An ugly win tonight, defeat at Bolton, 1-1 at home to Pompey and a dull 0-0 away to the rams.
Don't what everyone's wetting themselves about............5 -

Sod it, I'm kind of excited. A first home game for the new manager, who has already lost his first game with us, in the miserable rain against a proper physical shithouse team who will play far better in the muck than our lot who want to pass it round the back and not take responsibility. It feels like a game set up for us to lose, which is going to make it even better when we do something weird. Like the 5-4 against Cardiff under Powell or the 1-0 against Leeds under Riga, we'll just have to get a result that doesn't suit us and kick on from there. And worse case scenario, if we do lose we can all say we were there at The Valley for the first home game of the manager who took us down to the 4th tier for the first time. It's history!7

Ladapo on Saturday looked like he’d never played football ever before…Braziliance said:I think the nicknames for Ladapo already are a bit harsh, he's actually a proven player at this level and joined a side who have been terrible all season.
He's only played just over 400 minutes of football for us, the majority of that time under Appleton in the Burton and Northampton games, two games under interim managers and just the one chance under Jones so far.
Alright he hasn't played great, but that's writing off a player far too quickly, especially one that could be vital in keeping us up.2 -

Pawell Abbott is his cousin.1

Tested positive for Covid today. So definitely wont do the 120m round trip. Will see what i can stream. Just hope that Dobbo and Kanu start.0

Has Aneke played any games since being injured.Braziliance said:
That would be nice, but tbf, if we had midfielders that could keep the ball, and find pockets of space to pass into, our two forwards would be able to get some chances.Chunes said:
Could be a mistake to play two goalscorers up top. Ideally one would do the hard graft of holding the ball up.Braziliance said:
He has looked ok in spells, but he hasn't got much service. The way I see it, we have two of the best goal scorers in this league over the last 3 seasons. It is quite alarming we can't get them scoring.Pelling1993 said:
He's not been up to it as of yet but I agree. The service into him & May has been absolutely shocking.Braziliance said:I think the nicknames for Ladapo already are a bit harsh, he's actually a proven player at this level and joined a side who have been terrible all season.

It's far more to do with what is going on behind them, than themselves imo
As it stands we just can't keep the bloody ball and create a passage of play for them.
Aneke being back will certainly help us keep the ball up topDidn’t play for under 21 this February as far as I can see.
So for me that’s a No0 -
Really hope Dobson and Kanu start. Hopefully Aneke is on the bench but if not I hope we’re looking at the likes of Connor Wickham on a few months deal. We’re so weak up front.I’m going to say a few prayers and hope we speak a 2-1 win. Anything less than a win and I think our goose is cooked.0

Isted
Ramsay Ness Gillesphey Thomas
Coventry
Edmonds-Green Bakinson
Camara
Kanu May
Maynard-Brewer, Jones, Edun, T.Watson, L.Watson, Ladapo, Campbell
No Hector, Dobson or Aneke I reckon

Or a diamond with a central midfield 4 outnumbers their midfield 3, there’s different ways you can look at which is why it’s not as simple as one formation beats another.swords_alive said:

Both formations need a lot from the full/wing backs, though Bowyer used both well without us having great players in those positions with the midfield and strikers helping to offer width and movement. With only one winger in Campbell we don’t have many options if we want players in their best positions.1 -

Don't think we will see Chuks tonight. Taylor, Small and Fiorini have all played for the U23 in the last week or so, can't see Chuks thrown in tonight without having had some sort of run out.0

To use a common phrase “Charlton Nil…”0
-
We really need a win tonight because I'm worried we could lose the next three games and be in full panic mode. If you have managed to stay out of panic mode already, that is.0
-
Would we risk Chuks in a u23s game though? Might be we view him having 15 minutes on the pitch in a senior game without a run out just as risky as 20 minutes in a youth gameLargeAddick said:Don't think we will see Chuks tonight. Agree with @Garrymanilow above, Camara also came straight into the first teamLargeAddick said:Don't think we will see Chuks tonight. Taylor, Small and Fiorini have all played for the U23 in the last week or so, can't see Chuks thrown in tonight without having had some sort of run out.1 -
You are probably right on reflection. We will find out soon enough.Garrymanilow said:

It would be madness to use Chuks before he's ready. He's injury prone enough, without risking him further by rushing him back too soon.0

I think he’s been back in training for a while, a couple of weeks at leastkillerandflash said:It would be madness to use Chuks before he's ready. He's injury prone enough, without risking him further by rushing him back too soon.0 -
Port Vales game is off so that'll be 3 games in hand they have...0
