  • Sadly this team , no matter who the manager is , hasn’t got a win in it. . 2-0 defeat . Thank you Andy Scott - Pillock

We need to change up the formation, you can't play a formation that relies heavily on good attacking full backs when you don't have any, so that rules out 3 at the back and a diamond for me. (unless he tries Ramsay and Small in the hope they are good enough)

If we're sticking with Edun and Watson then I'd go with the below.

                                                                                                Isted

Watson OR REG                  Jones                          Gilsephey OR Thomas             Edun

                                                              Dobson OR Bakinson                 Coventry

                                                                                             Camara

                                                             May                          Ladapo                  Kanu

  • The good ship Charlton athletic slowly starts a huge u turn with a scrappy 2-1 win.

Bloody hell, what to make of this lot. For me Ramsey has to start, Tennai Watson had a shocker on Saturday culminating with his weak header straight to Femi Azeez, shame he couldn't provide like that at the other end. I would drop Edun but there doesn't seem to be a natural replacement, thanks Andy. Midfield, if Dobson is in the right frame of mind then he has to play, sorry the Louie Watson fan club but he was shit on Saturday and doesn't deserve a starting spot, up front May, Lapado and Kanu. People may not agree but the loss of McGrandles is a blow to Lincoln, considering he hadn't played for two months, he made an appearance off the bench and started against Fleetwood, two appearances, two wins. Plus their centre back Adam Jackson is out after a clash with Jayden Stockley on Saturday.
                                                  Isted
                               Ramsay-  REG - Jones - Thomas-Edun

Sounds from NJ's presser that Dobbo could be back and Chuks on the bench. With Dobson strengthening us at the back and half an hour each of Camara and Aneke we just might sneak a win.
    Diamond needed:

                       Istead
    REG Jones Gillesphey Thomas
                        Dobson
                Coventry Bakinson
                       LWatson (then Camara)
                May Kanu (then Aneke)

AMB, Ness, TWatson, Campbell, Camara, Ladapo, Aneke

  • We've somehow ended up on the position where no formation is a natural fit for us:

3-5-2 - weak at wing back
4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 no wingers (or at least only a badly out of form Tyreece Campbell)
    Diamond - no natural No.10

    What a mess
Camara can play 10, but has to be a lot fitter than he is now to play more than 30m.

I would keep to 3-5-2 and play the wing backs we signed in January to do that. Dobson and Coventry center with Camera in front of them. May and Kanu up top.
make that Louie Watson and we have the beginnings of a chance

It would be good to play with 12, not sure we would get away with it.

To me, Camara looks like a player who needs to be coming from deeper. His big strength is he can drive forward on the ball and get us up the pitch. To do that he needs to be picking up the ball in our half or around the halfway line.

May could play as a 10 with Kanu and Ladapo up top.
This was effective in a 4231 where your 10 needs to be more of a second striker. In a diamond the 10 has far more midfield type duties. May will work hard enough, but it wouldn't be natural for him, and it would take him further away from the goalscoring positions we desperately need to start getting him into again.

Watson or Fiorini are probably two players closest to being a natural 10 in diamond. The diamond with Watson off May and Kanu/Ladapo is probably our best option to start tomorrow, but I don't know... I don't a have a lot of faith in anything working after Saturday. The fight has just gone out of too many of them at the moment and until Jones manages to reinstill some of that in a few of them, the formation won't make that much difference,..
  • This lot are shot. I predicted a 1-1 earlier but we are so pony...

    C'mon Charlton, show some cojones!

  • One for all you formation experts who haven't apparently given any consideration to how Lincoln might line up- maybe it's perfectly reasonable to ignore how the opposition line up, I really don't know. I do hope however that Jones and Hart and/ or any scouts we have in the north have given some insights into how Lincoln might play ahead of this game. Couple of familiar names here too;

They actually play a 3-5-2 with Sorensen and Hackett-Fairchild as the wing backs. Sorensen was very good in the home game against us

Didn’t think McGrandles was allowed to play under terms of his loan.

My thinking is that May is a willing runner behind when the balls working it's way up the pitch. He will also drop and bring players allowing the other 2 to create there own space/runs. There is a benefit. Don't get me wrong I want him as a striker but feel right now, it was add another goalscoring threat with him and 2 strikers playing.

Lincoln have nothing to play for. We have some players returning from injury. A half decent crowd to cheer them on.  2-0 Charlton; a win and clean sheet to set us up for the 3 very difficult looking matches ahead.  This really does feel "must win".

I really don't know much about formations since 442 became a thing of the past but maybe something like...

                            Isted
    Ramsey Ness Jones Thomas Small
                 Dobson Coventry
                        Camara
                      May  Kanu

Chuks and Taylor on the bench; maybe Fiorini too?  Hector back soon.  The squad when fit looks decent. How long can it stay that way though.

Ed. Just realised my starting 11 would have 3 of the 9 signed in Jan and likely no surprise that 2 of those I have never seen play so guessing as to their abilities!

  • Don't think we'll lose by more than 2, so I guess that puts me in the happy clappy brigade under CL guidelines.
  • I don’t get this ‘Lincoln have nothing to play for’ stuff. Surely that can be said of their recent games where they haven’t lost in five. They have picked up more points in five games than we have in about five months !!
  • I like your line up and I think we’ll produce a performance on the night and win 2:1
