Michael Appleton - March 2025 appointed Shrewsbury manager (p124)

Got a theory -
Appleton got sacked on Saturday night and, after an extensive, exhaustive search for a replacement on Sunday, with absolutely no luck, he was re-interviewed this morning and given the job at an "undesclosed" unveiling ceremony.13 -
Like many I found the press conference cringeworthy.
There comes a time in many workplaces, whatever the rights or wrongs or moral justifications or otherwise, where it's obvious that personnel has to change. It always 'feels' ugly and very much like the end.
It is clear that Appleton has reached that stage. He won't walk so the SMT's only option is to put an end to his tenure quickly. We've all seen enough of these type of situations to know that things will just get worse - the SMT are kidding themselves if they think otherwise.11 -

He's getting dogs abuse online and saying 'they wouldn't say it to my face' is both fair enough and true!
I'm going to wait for him before the game tomorrow and have a chat.3 -
Someone posted earlier that they reckon the money men said no as they don't want to pay the wages of three managers at one time. I reckon this could have substance.
relationships must be at an all time low of we've sacked him and then reinstated him at the request/directions of the money men!
I don't know what's worse, sacking him and then telling him it's a misunderstanding or being sacked and going back to work the next day!!!
another day, another Charlton soap opera6 -

He did ask where I got my coat from as he liked it.

Just seems odd, that so many were convinced that he didn’t. Not digging anyone out btw, sources are wrong sometimes. 🤷🏼♂️
But, how a club director can read Appleton’s comments and think “everything is okay” seems very odd. Tomorrow night will be even more toxic now because of some of his comments.

Gravesend_Addick said:What a strange day. I don't see the point in giving him 1 more game. Looks like he's lost the dressing room & he never had the fans on side either.
Was a strange appointment & it's even more strange to be dragging this out & prolonging the inevitable
What evidence is there that he has lost the dressing room? I hate these throwaway comments, the sort of comments that lead to ' no smoke without fire' scenario. Why would so many players who have played with Appleton have joined us. Do I think he will go-yes, do I want him to be our long term manager-no, but making stuff up is unacceptable.1 -
Never has it been more certain that Charlton are going to win tomorrow.13

Until something is legally binding, it is just an intention or a current process.Nothing is ever straight forward when lawyers are involved!0

I suggest Apples scrapping with the fans will be infinately more entertaining than the actual match. Will CL start a "FIGHT FIGHT" thread?1

Maybe they should stop letting Scott and Methven appoint their mates.1 -

An easy win or a bad defeat, something strange is bound to happen.

I suppose it’s plausible he is effectively sacked but Scott hasn’t told him - yet.By that I mean the decision is made but due to Scott’s inability to plan ahead we don’t have anyone lined up and they think leave him there for now rather than disrupt any preparation for Tuesday.I live in hope.Winning Tuesday doesn’t mean he should stay. He’s had long enough.0

Side issue, but to me THAT shows leadership and passion, both what we need in a captain. Not saying Dobbo isn't a good man, but he's not in the same mould. If Dobbo goes we need an Alfie on the pitch to gee up the others. Let's face it he's pretty much the only player undroppable.1 -

Catching up on a tonne of posts and can’t understand what’s happened with this sacking. Can anyone sum up?1
-
Wouldn't you have taken one look at Appleton's managerial career to know that he'd never walk away from a pay-off?
He's a professional at it.4 -

I guess we will see tomorrow night what the response from the players is to all of this.0 -

I think it's fair to assume that the contact has no reason to lie and would've just said 'yes' if Appleton was there, so why has Appleton now been put in the position where he has to lie to the press?
All become a bit of a mess really.4 -

I doubt you’ve ever had a bad performance review at work and decided later that day that actually the company is better off without you and you’re going to resign.5 -

Very Clough-esque.
This will be the watershed moment and in ten years time the day after he's led us to our 3rd premier league treble and champions league trophy they'll be a mad revision of forum postings lying that we were in the minority of championing his stay as we could see he was our Sir Alex whilst everyone lost their heads calling for his exit.2
