I wouldn't say there has been 'loads' of speculation.
RIP Courtney.1 -

Been in the Vista Lounge at every game I have been to this season, and a couple last season, Chips. Chris Parkes got to know him quite well, and he was a regular for the past couple of years at least.Chippycafc said:RIP Dave. Still up there, despite me e-mailing and messaging them to correct it nearly 24 hours ago. Been going downhill since Lebedev took ownership, and rapidly sped up since Geordie Greig took the editorial reins.bristoladdick said:RIP. I don’t think Dave was ever an associate of the Krays.RIP Dave. If your an Addick your ok with me.0

With the greatest respect to Mr. Courtney I don’t see how any speculation repeating what is already in the media will cause any problem. In fact I can’t see any speculation in this thread at all.0

I think the line was more a precautionary there was a lot of varied speculation on Twitter yesterday that isn’t reflected in this thread. There is an ongoing police investigation into the death so grateful if we continued to keep that speculation off of here.1

Fair enough boss but you can’t defame the deceased or be guilty of any crime by discussing an ongoing police investigation.AFKABartram said:I think the line was more a precautionary there was a lot of varied speculation on Twitter yesterday that isn’t reflected in this thread. No but you can be respectful to a fellow fan who’s just lost his life and who a few posters would have known well (not saying anyone hasn’t btw)12

RIP Big man.
Sounds like he had a good last day and if he has taken his own life, then even a great day couldn't overcome the demons.

I've seen some of the rumours on Twitter / x and it's just mischief-making. People love a good conspiracy theory.
Brendan has confirmed the story as reported in the news - they watched the rugby together, had a laugh together, went to bed and by the morning Brendan found his best mate & boss dead. Presumably, there was a suicide note somewhere. Nothing more sinister I don't think.3 -
Yes you can. The suggestion that this thread should continue not to repeat speculation made elsewhere is a very good one. It's good that everyone is following it.ShootersHillGuru said:

His claim to being an associate of the Krays seems tenuous as he was 9 when they were banged up for good
I'm sure he could be good company but revelling in violence and criminality is pretty tawdry and no reason to revere him, quite the opposite.19 -
I think it fair to assume that while the Krays where inside, they still somehow had control of various outside activities, they would have needed trusted people to do this and perhaps this is where the term" Kray Associate" applies to Mr.Courtney, after all he was in charge of the security at the funerals.4

I never meant on here in the slightest mate.Algarveaddick said:
Due to the fact there's hardly any speculation on this thread, I woulda thought it was reasonably clear that I didn't mean on here, but there was definitely quite a bit going about elsewhere when I wrote the post, and there still is.

Yeah this is basiaclly what I meant. That's very weird watching a suicide note in the form of a video.
He's trying to sound cheerful but i think deep down he was hurting and not just physically.1 -

That video was very sad but in my opinion very brave. He was quite clearly in pain physically and maybe mentally as well.
He has tried to put over his thoughts and the action he was going to take, to try and soften the impact on family and friends.
Even in death he tried to do the right thing.
RIP Sir x10 -
Agreed. I think that he was a very brave man.I never met him and had my doubts about some of the stories he told publicly, but I have to admit that video was a very brave and thoughtful thing to do and agree that he was in terrible pain both mentally and physically. Balloon releases are extremely harmful to wildlife and as much as people may want to remember someone's life, there are better ways of doing it than causing so much damage to the natural world. This link gives some suggestions.carly burn said:

I hope you looked at the link I posted @clive, I don't think the consequences of releasing thousands of pieces of plastic, plus the string that gets entangled with animals and birds is something to laugh at.18

Having said that, it's a shame the gentleman passed away.ME14addick said:

So... one for the euthanasia debates, then

Imagine telling people how to remember someone’s life for minor environmental points on a football forum. Sure it feels good tho dont it. 😩

It's not minor at all, this is 1000 balloons that have the potential to cause a lot of damage to wildlife. Actions have consequences and there are much better ways to remember a person's life.ValleyGary said:Imagine telling people how to remember someone’s life for minor environmental points on a football forum. I remember when Chatlton were going to release a load of balloons to celebrate promotion, but cancelled it, as they realised the damage they could cause.

How is this real life? Releasing balloons kills birds so do something else. Not sure what some people don't get.
