Southend lost 2-0 at Yeovil earlier in the FA Cup.

Kanu wasn’t involved as he wasn’t given permission to feature.
  • Southend 2-0 up at half time. Kanu has scored them both.
  • Now 4-0 up and he's got his hat trick.

When’s he out of contract? If he bangs in 20 plus goals this season he’d be great to get back into our first team

Next summer, but the CAFC article says his contract is until at least 2024 - So imagine there is an extension we can activate

Solihull had lost once in 15 league games before today.

And had the best defensive record in the division. 13 in 15 conceded became 18 in 16.

  • Southend up to 17th now

They'd be 5th without their 10-pt deduction at the start of the season, so Daniel will no doubt have some decent players to work with over there.
  • Got to assume he will be recalled after Aneke (susceptive) injury. After watching him against Port Vale I thought he was definitely ready for league football.
  • A day he’ll remember for the rest of his life. To quote Brian Clough ‘well done young man’!

I think he's ready for League football but not sure he's ready for a promotion push in League One. His all around play still needs work and he needs to play some football to work on it.

If he keeps this up I expect he'll be plating league football in January either for us or on loan.

Either way, he's scoring goals in senior football which he hasn't done before this year and he's still only 18, which is bonkers.

Even before his loan he had shown flashes this season that he can hurt defences at this level. Consistency might be an issue for him, as it tends to be for young players, but he could be a real weapon off the bench if we need a goal.

We have a bit of an embarrassment of riches at the moment (let’s assume, optimistically, that Chuks is not now going to out for months) so have the luxury of leaving Kanu where he is for now, which I have no doubt will be helping him too.

I wouldn’t rule out him having an influence on the second half of our season though. I think there’s certainly an opportunity for him to push himself ahead of Tedic, who has been so-so so far.

Looks well chuffed in that video. Good on him.
  • Our academy is churning out some good players.

No need to recall him. Leave him there to gain more confidence & a run in a team.

We have 3 strikers (if we dont play Tedic on the wing) and our wingers are scoring too.

I think he was unfortunate to be left out when he was, but everything was going awry at that time under Garner.
I actually believe this loan is an excellent all round thing, he is most certainly not loaned to Southend United because he is not good enough for us. If when he is more settled as a proper pro and yet his goalscoring per season diminishes by a third, he will still be a 15 goal a season striker, and I think he can do better than that eventually, and at a higher level too.
It is noticeable for Daniel that he has physically developed in the last year or so, from lithe and effective, he is now lithe, strong(er) and effective, and as for his thought processes, we he is a fruit of the tree that gives us Leaburn, Asimwe, Campbell, Anderson and a few others too, none of them bewildered when playing.
Daniel is a natural, but excellent coaching, support and development has enabled him to make really good progress. The only caveat to all this is to remember just how young he is, but his trajectory suggests genuinely good things.
If we continue to do OK up front, I would be delighted if Kanu stays at that decent club Southend for the whole season, and somehow helps them to get back into the league. If he then returns uninjured everybody's happy.

If Chuks is injured (I hope not) and Tedic continues to be a waste of space (I think there’s a great player in there but imo we are not seeing it) then Kanu needs to be playing for Charlton sooner rather than later

He's our May backup, if something serious should happen to him.

It’ll benefit Charlton more in the long run to leave him there and play mens football week in week out till January and then reassess it from there.

What an amazing performance. Am sure he’s the real deal.

I didn't need Daniel Kanu to score 4 goals for Southend to say he should be in our 18 man squad.
With Aneke getting his mandatory injury May, Leaburn, Tedic and Kanu need to be in our squad and most games I would use all 4 players.Tedic is a central striker and it's not doing him any favours playing out wide.

Tedic can now job share with Leaburn while May can play 100 minutes and Kanu can be super sub.
Don't know the small print of the loan at Southend but we need him back ASAP if as expected Chuks goes on Sick leave.

  • Bless his cotton socks !

Disagree. It would be very very nice to have someone like that on the bench as a secret weapon but in the long-term he will benefit and develop a lot more being the Main Man for a lower team than he would coming off the bench for 20-30 minutes at a time.

He's still young and we need to look at the long game not the here and now.

Aneke's injury problems and the question mark over Blackett Taylor signing a new contract means a forward line of Campbell, Leaburn and Kanu is more likely than not, the only caveat to that is whether the club can hold on to them.

So happy for Kanu. Proper goalscorer
