I was at The Oval for Cook's final game, and will be there tomorrow (and Monday) for Broad's final game.
Sounds like you're the real reason for their retirements

I thought he would let Anderson go
first so that he could be the main man.

I reckon he will end up on sky sports

Quite a shock, but a great way to end, still taking wickets against the Aussies

Interesting that his partner Mollie King was interviewed on TMS today
Yep. And gave absolutely nothing away

Shane. But going out on a high must be a great feeling. Took England to another level. One of the greatest I think.

TMS knew nothing about it. I guess Sky knew weeks ago going by this montage!!

Going to be really tough to replace Broad and you'd assume Anderson pretty soon.

Especially with most of the quicks (Archer, Potts, Stone etc) being injured.  Who is there coming through?

    Tongue, Cook maybe?

That Broad montage put tears in my eyes, What a player . I suspect Anderson will follow suit despite what he said yesterday.

That’s a shocker, thought he might’ve gone to India in the winter and through next summer.

Broad not out overnight, will he walk out to a guard of honour from the Australian team tomorrow morning?

Think him and Flintoff are my favourite England bowlers I've watched.

Anderson was possibly better and more consistent, Harmison quicker etc, but those two just had those spells, and were so entertaining.

4 years younger than Jimmy, so on that basis you'd think he could/should go on, but then you remember how few fast bowlers are still playing Test cricket at 37.

Sky have been waiting years for him to retire!

Alright bed wetters, I take it we're all feeling a bit better tonight than we was this morning? lol.

Absolutely gutted about Broady.  The word legend gets thrown about all over these days but he's a proper legend.

The 8-15 at Trent Bridge, a ton at Lords (even Tendulkar didn't manage that so I've been reminded tonight by my Indian mates!), christ so many brilliant memories!

    shocked re Broad

    proper legend for England

Looks like still had couple of years in the tank, but there again, I would probably stay at home with Mollie King as well !!

A bit stunned TBH, probably because I thought Jimmy A would retire first. Broads still been dangerous this series, I think in a funny way his biggest asset is that he has periods when you (and the opposition) think he's just trundling then he'll go and win the game on his own. Quite often this can be across two innings in the same match!

Huge shoes to fill in every sense of the word.

Broad needs four wickets in the innings to be the top wicket taker in the series.

As long as Khawaja doesn’t score 57 or more (or Smith / Head score 160+ / Labuschagne scores 180+), Zak Crawley will be the top run scorer in the series.

Fab day at The Oval. My hope was to see Crawley bat all day. He didn’t quite, but England did and at a v good run rate. Let’s get the win now!

Feels like the end of an era for this Bowling attack - Broady retiring , Stokes it's uncertain how much he'll bowl anymore, maybe one more summer of Anderson? And the rest of them are mainly made of glass. Will be interesting to see who they look to blood next summer.

Stuart Broad is a national hero, I distinctly remember him coming into the side with his foppy hair and putting a massive flag down as being the next great English all-rounder. His ton at Lords and some amazing spells with the ball had him well on the way to that. I think once he took that horrible one to the face he sensibly decided to focus on the damage he could do with the ball, psychologically the damage sustained from that understandably got to him to the point I think he's only really got past it now.

Trent Bridge, everyone must be able to recall where they were when he single handedly obliterated the Australians in an afternoon. Since then he has been a player they are frightened of and has not just got in their heads, he lives there, the Australian media are obsessed with him.

I'm going to really miss him. And Jimmy obviously when he goes but Broad is the striker out of the two of them, something needs to happen, Broad has been rabbiting away in the field, gets tossed the ball, gets everyone wound up and focused.

Not only part of a great England team but a great player in a great team, one of the first names you pick, undroppable. Correct but sad decision to go out now when he could easily go on. He got his head right and really benefitted from a sports psychologicalist to help his mindset when bowling and that has extended to being ok with knowing when its time

He must be set to move straight in to Sky , he’s a smooth talker with some banter .
He’ll be well missed , what a player

Oh he'll be straight in that Sky lineup. Hopefully at the expense of the insufferable KP

I remember the story back in 2019 that he was going to retire after the ashes and join sky but he had a very good summer and decided to carry on playing

Absolutely knocked me for 6 that Broady announcement.

Given how well he's been bowling and all the speculation about Jimmy it's very much come from nowhere. Utmost respect to him for doing it on his terms and going out when he could easily okay another couple years and take wickets. It's a shame because he's started to look like a real leader of the attack even on the occasions when Jimmy was in the side.

Gutted. I'm of the age where I kinda half remember 2005 but most of my knowledge of that is from watching footage back. The first series I properly watched and remember is 2009 ashes. I barely remember a time before Broad was in the side.

I believe that Broad's announcement isn't just because he wants to walk out and everyone to know that this is the last time that he will do it but because he wants to get everyone up and behind the team in their attempt to bowl the Aussies out. And specifically behind his best mate and opening partner. How wonderful would it be if they both got a 5 fer!

Amazing to think that Stewart Broad had a good batting average over his first dozen tests and a poor bowling average. Many thought because of his DNA he would turn into an all rounder because of his Dad's Batting ability.

He is a good talker( better than most Sky presenters) and I love his character and at 37, has his business interests and can spend more time (possibly) with his 1 year old daughter and Mollie instead of going off to India and missing vital months in his daughter's development.

Most of my predictions have been wrong but might as well make one more. I think we'll bowl the Aussies out and win comfortably. Hopefully Broady and Jimmy bowl well!
