Not really Comics but as a kid i was really into Motorbikes from about 1976 , so each week i religiously brought Motorcycle News and Motorcycle Weekly , only stopped buying a couple of years ago , When i moved house around 20 years ago i had a pile that stood 6ft high , ended up dumping them as i didnt have the room to store them .0

@paulbaconsarnie The guy who moved to Avalon ran the Popular Book Centre up by Ladywell. Was he also a Bruce? I knew him a bit at the PBC then a lot at Avalon, so I probably know your other half's brother. Ask him if he remembers Marlon and if he does, say 'Hello' from me.paulbaconsarnie said:

re former was really into DC exclusively at the time and had every Green Arrow series comic going, plus Batman, Superman, Aquaman etc. To this day, I buy any Green Arrow memorabilia I do not have, though not a huge amount of stuff released over the years - a bit niche. Just caught my imagination, as did Batman for being a human crime fighter with some special skills and bravery beyond belief. Nice thread!!

The guy who ran Skinny Melinks, Bruce, was a friend back then. His girlfriend was a drop dead beautiful redhead and you did have to wonder, nice as he was, what she was doing with him.
If so, my other half’s brother Mark started as a Saturday boy in Lewisham, moved with Bruce to Avalon and basically ran the shop when Bruce moved away to near Southampton.
I have mentioned Marks knowledge of the industry somewhere on here before.
I have no interest in comics but am astounded at what he knows.0 -

I always used to get the Beano every week and then when I got a bit older I used to get those little booklets of war stories - "Commando" or something like that?0 -
I'd get those and the football ones which were good to save and take on holiday. The holiday specials were good for that too.Off_it said:

I always used to get the Beano every week and then when I got a bit older I used to get those little booklets of war stories - "Commando" or something like that?0 -
I was a big Beano fan and had quite a collection of annuals, which I sold when I moved to Thailand, one of which made three figures. I had a letter printed once, letter of the week no less, winning me a Dennis t-shirt, jumper and poster. I was 28 years old at the time and the t-shirt, despite being an XL, never fitted me!0

There was a stall in Green St market that used sell out of date copies of comics and magazines for a fraction of the price, which I used to save up pocket money for. He also always had a box of, er "specialist", magazines me and my mates would try to have sneaky shufty at when he wasn't looking.

I can't ever remember having comics as a kid. The only time I looked at comics was in the junior school wet play times and then I think I was just looking at the pictures.
In later life I used to get Viz very occasionally.0
