today's the first day in the series imo the aussies haven't pegged us back whenever we've looked like we're starting to walk away with it. Before they could peg us back and simply wait for bazball to go wrong. I really think they're missing lyon.

Good chance of a first innings lead if they can sustain it.

Feel like Marsh is going to cause us some problems but if we see out this spell until tea, absolutely agree

    Excellent from Zakary.

He joins Rory Burns as the only openers to score a home ashes hundred since Strauss. Even Sir Alister Cook never managed it.

Didn't someone say that Zak's a Charlton lad?

Had to crowbar the Surrey lad in there didn’t you? :-)
  • This is brilliant.  We're going to try & win it in 3 days

This is how Bazball should be played. It feels like in the first couple of matches we got carried away with it based on the success over the winter and went too hard too early.

We had a pretty circumspect start saw off the openers spells and the new ball, got ourselves in, gradually got more comfortable against the change bowlers, pushed on as conditions got easier, attacked the weaker bowler when he was used and then really went for it as quicks got into their 2nd and 3rd spells. Ended up at well over 5 an over despite the slow start. Batting in partnerships too which is key.

    Lovely stuff

Being a cricket novice can I ask you followers..... why dont England just let rip now and start trying to smash everything ? 8 wickets left if they could put on another 200 ish runs surely that would give them a great chance of beating the weather ?

also australians bowled quite poorly to crawley early on. Bowl wide and full with the new ball and he'll chase it. They bowled at his legs and he just clipped them all for 4. Now he can afford to go after the wider ones and he's already got 110 odd runs in the bank.

Only 15 minutes until tea… I suspect they’ll do exactly that after the break

And lo, there was Bazball, in its purest form. This is how it was meant to be

If we get to that point with only 3 or 4 down, I can see us batting through until mid morning tomorrow and trying to get as close to 200 lead as possible.

8 or 9 down is a different story and would agree with you

I think that would be repeating the mistake from the first test. We should go all out for a 150 run first innings lead and then aim to bowl them out tomorrow before knocking the runs off in between the rain over the weekend

looking at the weather it's possible we only have a day, maybe a day and a half's worth of play after today. Think stokes will want to force a result.

Marsh bowls his second no-ball and is sent from the field. Early bath for Mitchell

Yeah agreed, i think if we have a few wickets in hand we should look to carry on. Go for a 200+ lead and bat them out of it.

Assuming the Aussies get another 300 in their second innings regardless, it’s a case of deciding do we want to try and score 450+ plus now and leaving a target under 200?

Or do we want to bowl tonight and chase a target of 250-300 in between rain delays over the weekend?

Also how knackered are our bowlers?

    Why?

    Bat big, bat once.

Best thing we can do if we think it'll be a short Test surely.
